Tools!

Recommended Posts

Hi all, attempting a comeback to toy car racing after about 20yrs away (nearly 53 now...)

Wondering about what tools to get on a budget? I had Hudy last time out, but I was younger, free-er and single-er!

Anyone had good luck with the no-name stuff on Amazon/Ebay?

Just the usual 4 hex drivers and a couple of nut drivers...

All help gratefully received

From aliepress, i have bought replacement red spider brand titanium tips for my hex screwdrivers and cannot fault them especially for the price, although i quite like fastrax stuff, its cheap and decent quality https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/114508783164?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=n8HqH7Q2Qn6&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=MRHag3XmRgm&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

For Hex drivers i will only use german Wera brand a little pricey but worth every penny

Out of curiosity which ones are you using?

Everywhere I've worked the manufacturing guys have always used Wera tools, I have been looking at ordering these -https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/screwdrivers/8759299

Look at places like RS, CPC and rapid. They are half the price on there 👍

I know people rave about MIP however I'm not paying £50 for 3 hex drivers, outside of RC they aren't even a known brand!

I have a set of Arrowmax that I bought yewars ago. Did well. I also picked up a couple of used Hudy hex drivers.

But, honestly, if you plan on using tools regularly, buying cheap is a false economy. Not such a big issue if you only plan on using them now and again...but for regular use, better quality tools just tend to fit hte fasteeners better, and do the job where cheaper tools round out hexes and cause frustration.

I use Wera tools when working on 1:1 vehicles and I love their reversable ratchets ( no little lever to catch and accidentally reverse the thing) and the Jokr ratchet spanners. They are nice tools to use.

I have the full Arrowmax set, it cost a fortune and its great, BUT Im sure ive paid a premium for an RC Brand.

If I was on a budget, Id definitely go with some of the banggood/aliexpress ones.

That said, something like a Wera or Bahco etc are going to be probably better than anything RC branded, So id definitely look at the Wera sets

This thread has me looking for a nut driver with a slim handle for wheel nuts but for life of me cant work out what size driver

Buy a 1/14 drive socket set and just use the driver attachment and appropriate sized socket

Meant a 1/4 drive socket set

Yeah i figured 1/4 drive, thing is i just want a single tool that fits the standard wheel nut should be super simple, i have a tool and its marked as 8.0mm and only fits a 4mm nut, i see one on ebay that is for 5mm but is marked 8mm, maybe best to stick with a little fiddly 4 way tool that we have tons of

I'm going to look at the ifix-it range when I'm looking at new hand tooling, they seem good quality and have a lifetime warranty and the full sets are affordable in both 5.5mm and 1/4 hex sets
