  3. https://www.rctech.net/forum/electric-road/1116460-yokomo-rookie-speed-rs1-0-touring-car.html I've not read this thread, but it might have the answers, or someone might know if you post your question? Also, there was a guy on YouTube IIRC that did a bit of a series on this Yokomo? Again, might be worth a look
  4. Hi, could someone post a pic of a Futaba receiver with a power cap connected please? Mine is an R203gf if it makes a difference? I don't want to get it the wrong way round ! Thanks in advance
  5. Might be worth checking with your club, as a few are doing lipo trials at the moment. There will be a change over at some point, so clubs are experimenting (or at least watching other clubs experimenting!) I say this because the club I'm about to start running at started a discussion last week, literally the day after I received my four nimh packs in the post! I'm not upset, as I haven't joined the club yet, so they had no way of alerting me, and it's a big enough turnout of minis to find someone to race against anyway.
  6. At bigger meets, there are usually trophies or plaques for the first three in each final, but why? Surely fourth in the "A" final is better than first in the "D"? Yet the lower final podium placements will come away with a little something... Not being dismissive in any way, I guess it must be a "steps on the ladder" kind of thing? So a pleasant discussion only, please! As an aside, are there any other sports that do this? Where direct competitors are awarded differently? (Not different leagues or classes, literally direct competitors with equal equipment and rules?) Thanks in advance
  7. @Redback please change that avatar, it looks very real on my phone!
  8. Hi all, As per a couple of threads, I'm making a return to RC, probably racing a Mardave/Kamtec/Battcave mini. I visited my local club, they're all running NiMh (which I used to run 20yrs ago) but I forgot to ask them about discharging and storage of the cells. BITD we used to connect the cells to a discharger and store them flat, but I can't seem to find any standalone discharger (IIRC I used to have LRP ones) and the discharge rates on chargers seem to be an amp or less? Any help gratefully received
  9. It does. A few there last night. A couple of drivers seemed to love it, one said they'd wanted to throw it down the stairs and return to their Kamtec, and one was worried about it being a bit fragile? Sidenote: why can't Mardave make cars in black frp!? I think the side-sprung Assassin is probably the car for me, but my OCD is struggling to get round the look of the Mardave FRP. I know that the most important thing is how it drives and performs, but it looks like old circuit board offcuts!!!
  10. Really enjoyed myself last night. Thank you to all the people whose brains I picked last night. As someone who always overthinks things, and as a "born-again" I was probably asking questions way above my pay grade but everyone was really helpful. So now I just need to decide, Mardave/Kamtech or Battcave?
  11. Just about to do this tonight (different club) Just going to have a look, see what's what. Will try and have a chat with a few people, then get a car bought!

    Tools!

Hi all, attempting a comeback to toy car racing after about 20yrs away (nearly 53 now...) Wondering about what tools to get on a budget? I had Hudy last time out, but I was younger, free-er and single-er! Anyone had good luck with the no-name stuff on Amazon/Ebay? Just the usual 4 hex drivers and a couple of nut drivers... All help gratefully received
  19. Cheers Will visit our locals tomorrow and see what I can find
  20. Hi, any ideas for good, cheap, long lasting tyres for wt01? Run mostly on hard packed dirt, some grass Cheers
  21. Turns out the Ripmax ones are pretty brilliant! We got two, one wouldn't bind, and one died after three charges! BUT they were changed without troubke after testing at the shop, and the new two are really good!!! So good, I am thinking of using them for an after school rc club! If I can pinch a couple of hundred from accounts, hire a badminton court once a week and Bob's your uncle! Good steering, track nice and straight. Only up to speed 2 in our lounge so far, I think a bigger track would be brilliant Only worry is I would probably need six cars to allow three students to race, as charging time is quite long, but I think it would be a good idea
  22. http://www.activescalemodels.co.uk/ripmax-micro-stunt-car-ep-rtr-24ghz-19700-p.asp Actually, judging by wheels and transmitter, I'd say they were the same...
  23. I think so There is a ripmax one similar (5 speeds etc) will try to see both then decide Just a little something to race in the conservatory (will pick up 2!) when the it is too wet or cold for the Blackfoot
