  3. Hello everyone, my name is Spike (yes real name) and I'm a 41 year old who has always wanted to get into RC but never really taken the plunge. I've now made a purchase, nothing fancy, I ordered a HBX 16889a Pro as a way to get started. I read and watched a lot of reviews and this seemed to be a good model to get started with without forking out a large sum of money. I've been reading a lot about electric RCs but the one thing I'm struggling with is body sizes. I spend all my time customising things, I love anything I can customise so I've already been looking into clear body shells and how to paint them but I've not yet been able to identify if a certain body shell will fit an RC car? I've seen the scales such as 1/16 etc but I've also read that you can't just pick any 1/16 to fit another 1/16 scale RC car and when I've searched on Google for something that may help me understand what body shells are compatible with a Hbx16889a Pro I only seem to find the same 4-5 body types. Is there any kind of website that shows you what is compatible with certain models or is it a case of measuring out the RC car and its clip placements and drilling your own holes to essentially make a body fit? I feel I've dived onto something very complex head first haha

  5. Took this out the box😍, wanted an exb initially but with mb models selling these v5's for less than the cost of an exb roller it just made sense..

  6. Careful not to make the mistake of fully charging them in a cold shed and then bringing them indoors, the warmth will add some charge to the battery and then fires can happen.

  11. We got 2 red for each of my daughters and 2 green for me and my lad. From the test run my lad did, its looking a lot smoother running and really quiet, articulation is good also. shocks seem a little sticky thats something ill look into when i can (run ragged at the minute lol). Detail is superb too. One thing im not so keen on it the servo mount looks bulky but possibly fragile and steering arms makes it look rastar. Otherwise im more than happy with it. Considering the roc hobby Toyota Land Cruiser is £139 and the mogrich is £169 the Traxxas is good value i think. Not being greedy or for profit mate. 1 for me and 1each for the kids, we are currently doing a crawler section of the garden so we can have some fun.

  13. Another new RC today. A Gravedigger!!! Our next door neighbour Bobby is two maybe three years old, I keep the trucks in the house so I have to walk down the drive to load them into the car/van if were taking them out. If he is out the front every time I walk past he points and says “truck” haha, so despite not really knowing him/his parents all that well (only lived here since Jan and Im a bit of an introvert) thought Id pick him up a little cheap truck for Christmas 🙂 Hopefully it doesnt financially ruin him 30 years later like this hobby does to me!

  18. Thanks buddy! Definitely feel like I'm a fair bit better round a track now than I used to be. Probably got a bit more sense on how the cars actually work now. (Or I'm keeping out of the barriers more because it's my wallet that takes the hit after a crash 😂)

  19. Do you guys know when we hit a bump in the project and affects the motivation? I struggled with the suspension, discarded the 1st idea, the 2nd with torsion springs looked good but because i couldn't get cheap springs, decided to went "full builder" on this and try to copy the system on the 1:1: torsion bars. This is the first prototype : Video: The tension can be tuned. First, by the wire diameter. It's spring steel, started with 2mm and now changed to 1.5mm. Then, moving the piece that connects the spring to the axle, changes the stiffness. Another advantage it's that the ride height is set and locked with a screw. In the ride height, the positive and negative travel it's the same Suspension arms. The are steel bar with one washer welded at each end to add that 3d look and help to round the ends. Machined a bit on the center to make it thinner. Then, filed all the edges to look a cast piece. On the holes at the ends, will be a axle for the wheel and on the other, the suspension pivot In the end, they'll be almost invisible. Half-hidden by the wheels and the tracks And now,the "bones" of the suspension system : First, the blocks that will be bolted to the chassis and will hold everything In place: The arms are attached to 4mm steel rods that offset from each side like the real one. On the 1:1, the arms are connected to torsion bars. I opted to this system instead because is more adjustable. The photos show spring wire but I've replaced for 4x2mm spring steel bar.

  20. Oh, and the dodgy paint shell survived. Funnily enough, the only paint that cracked off was on the blue which went on first and it thought would be okay. I'm guessing I left some finger prints or something on when I peeled that initial bit off

  21. A new set of wheel hubs for the Ryft I wanted to try the Ryft wheels on the Cragsmans, but would have to run the Cragsmans hubs, to cut a long story short, I snapped loads of the screws holding the wheels to the hubs and needed new ones 😂

  26. The tracks: In stock form , look too clean and being all black, don't seem scale. So i tried to weather them to look metallic and worn This is the first one, used a rust red, and 2 different grays because the red was too "red" for rust, on the second track applied a bit of dark brown and seems better Stock and weathered: For those who are wondering if the color will hold, against the ground? sections that are in contact with the ground lost the paint but the black plastic turned to a dull gray

  30. Spent a satisfying evening putting quite a lot of spacers into the TB-05. They went onto all four axels and suspension arm hinges and I’ve managed to do the rear uprights/hub carriers as well. Still have the front uprights/hub carriers to do but it’s made a huge difference to the amount of play at the wheels. The car now fees a lot more like the set up I was expecting, rather than the sloppy thing that turned up from eBay a month ago.

  37. Worked on the rear section, that small door to the cargo area A splash of color to see how it looks Glued the roof and did the opening of the hatch When the windows were cut, didn't notice that the real ones weren't square. Small detail but bothered me ... So... Another job was making the hooks for the canvas. Was thinking in buying those tiny hooks for bras but then, i preferred to do only to see how it could look

  39. Bikes as well as RC? I'll add my ZXR750 - previously my track bike: Now with added turbo: ... And it's friend the zx6r: ... And the newcomer to the fleet, the shabby commuter R1100RT (not my car in the background btw): Seriously, if you haven't tried one of those, you don't know what you're missing. 😁

  41. A couple of pics from the first trackday on the S1K last Thursday. This bike is an absolute animal!! I've ridden fast bikes before but this is on another level. My friend had a bit of spill but the crash bung did it's job and the bike and rider were back out in the next session 🙂

  43. The Damage 😕 Never bent a driveshaft and this is my 6th X Maxx related Platform. This genuinely was a sub 30mph collision into an admitedly hard object. People (social media) seem to think Im downplaying it, and it was a big crash. but honestly if it was 25mph Id be shocked. I know I dont have a video but Im not hard on my RCs, how often do you see me post breakages? Obviously tempretures played a massive part in this. I think this is the list I need, most isnt even listed in the UK yet

  44. I genuinely didnt wanna use this yet, but my Mrs pestered me to take it out…. You can guess how this ends: With the X Truth be told it was a pointless exercise. I doubt it got above 30mph, I even re set the end points thinking it wasn’t set up right. However I think it was just spinning. Seemed like a big drifty truggy. I like but then my Mrs hit a tree head on and what Id say was 20/25mph. The end result was a shock to be honest. Even in -1c I didnt quite expect this. quite a lot broke and nothin in stock….
