Turns out I won't be getting one of these mainly due to the price of it and partly because something better popped up on Facebook for a fair bit less.

Both posts where to merely pick holes at it so for something you like or intend to buy I’d say your not very enthusiastic, this is how I came to my conclusion. You could well prove me wrong and buy one but I very much doubt it if on the other hand you do then I’ll have to eat my words won’t I

But why are you looking for problems? You wont buy it, its Traxxas. Youve dismissed the manufacturer. It would be like me trying to pick fault in a new nitro 1/8th buggy that i have no interest in buying?

 

If you were interested in purchasing it, then of course do the research, and find fault.  I doubt any of us on here are rich enough to consider £839 cheap, id certainly be going over it with a fine tooth comb if I was to go for it (FWIW, Im not interested in this now, as its too small, and too close in price to the Xmaxx). I certainly will with the E Revo 2.0 which I AM looking at buying.  But at this stage its silly. There was pages and pages of posts on the Xmaxx saying the plastic chassis was going to be an issue. Ive not EVER saw a broken one. Until the actual product is in the hands of independent customers, we can only gush over, or slate the aestetics of something. But even that would be pointless if youre completely against the manufacturer which alot of you seem to be?

I was actually ok with what you said until the guinea-pig remark. 

That was like a personal attack on me and other people on here who have pre ordered one. So yes i will have my say.

Hmmm. That’s a shame.... £800+ at msport. Not surprising but that’s too much for me sadly. 

 

I was considering that same order as dody from the US.. but I’m understanding from the dodsters post that the £630+ import is not on??

 

tbh I have spent crazy money on a 1/5 engine recently. The kind of money I never thought I’d spend on an rc no matter an Rc engine! £1450! That kind of makes this truck reasonable...

 

it does look the part. And from what I’ve seen it has a beautiful suspension action! Love the cage, body, wheels, just the look of it. 

 

Its typical traxxas plastic fantastic but that seems to work perfectly for traxxas on other rc’s so why change? I agree the little wheel nuts are a bit of a shame. If anything just limiting the use of other 17mm hex options. Plus the possible weakness as was mentioned above. If they work well though it won’t be an issue. 

 

A £699 price would have been good. I remember back pre ordering my Xmaxx v1 from modelsport at £650. Makes it seem like a real bargain now. ( at the time I’m sure many felt it was too much! ;))

The £630 price is from RC Mart in HK, historically, everything most of us have ordered has slipped through without any customs. Ive personally had multiple $4/500 come through no problem, but never an actual rtr rc. My concern would be theyre going to clock on that somethings expensive if youve paid $100+ to have it posted from half way round the world?

I think what babylon said was sort of valid.

People are happy to praise something they may never own, from a few pictures, but someone brings up an observation and get shot down.

It does seem a little bit sub standard for the UK money.

Now, if you do successfully order without customs for sub £650, it's a lot more reasonable when compared to the Yeti XL, having owned a Yeti XL paid for with MY hard earned, it's not perfect by any means, but I wouldn't attack someone for pointing that out  

IMO, anything capable of 4s+ should have at least a proper 17mm hex set up.

I like the way this looks though, I've said it before, IMO it looks way better than the Losi Super Rey Baja Thingymajig.

I do think Traxxas short change people, but if folk are happy to keep buying, there is an ar5e for every seat as they say.

FYI; being the first to buy and try something is and has been called being a guinea pig for a long time, you'll just have to live with that as someone who pre-ordered a completely unknown RC

This car is what brought me to this website. I first saw it on RCGroups. But information there is limited. I paid a visit to the Traxxas website. But that seems to be exclusively US. After searching 'Traxxas UK Forum' in Google, I found this place. I have to say that as a drone hobbyist, this has peaked my interest in cars. I'd love to own one of these but I don't think it'll make a good first car. The UK price (of around £840) is way out of my budget. I've since come to learn that Traxxas is releasing a new version of an older model, called the Traxxas Rustler. Listed at $159.99 on the Traxxas website, I suspect it'll cost around £160 in the UK (assuming it's released here). Much more budget friendly. With that said, I very much look forward to reviews of this when it's released.

Basically a new paint/print job for the body, and a new lower price tag, about 30 usd lower than existing XL-5 versions.  For 160 usd (about 115 gbp) I think that makes a great entry level truck for people just getting into the hobby.  Sadly, as you point out, it will be around 160 gbp by the time it's entered rip-off Britain...  Hats off to Traxxas though for going down this route, I'm usually berating them for their new vehicle pricing structure, so good to see (a small) gesture the other way, if you can call it that.  Now they just need to sort out the pricing on the UDR, X-Maxx, Slash 4x4 etc etc

Im Traxxas biggest fan. I think itll be £189-200 here still :/

Don't know u may be right, but normal XL-5 Rustler is 199 ish here, so with this being a cheaper version I'd like to think we'll see it south of 170... time will tell.

That's as maybe, but Hobao still make the H7, and Tamiya still make the... yeah well that's another story altogether!!!  Point is, just because its been around a while doesn't mean it's poop.

 

I think if they could 159 it over here, with all the benefits that a Traxxas truck has in terms of support, parts supply, decent electrics/radios (for the money), mod-ability (is that a word?), then they'd be on to a winner.

That could well be a very valid point! Although they do still suffer from sloppy steering, I'm sure you can get parts to help with this.

 

I wouldn't have one, but at £160 that wouldn't be a bad buy.

Yeah, it seems you and Guns are on the same wavelength, parts support is excellent and mods could be virtually endless. I would just struggle to justify that sort of cost for a 15 year old design, when cheaper brands offer more up-to-date models, for less.

 

Tamiya, well yeah, they play on Nostalgia. Traxxas can't use that excuse. Although I do wish Tamiya would move on, just a bit.

 

For kind of price, it's ECX Ruckus for me!

But whilst we're on the subject of Rustler and the like, I think the new Rustler will be cheaper then the current one because it wont come with a battery or charger. It may be an old design (I wouldn't know to be honest). But if it works then that's fine with me!

It does certainly work. Honestly, though. Check out the brushed, 2WD (not 4WD, they aren't quite as robust) version of the ECX Ruckus. That thing would go straight through a Rustler and out the other end!
