  1. The Southern Scale Trail 2020 took place over the weekend of 5-6th September. For this event to be able to go ahead during these difficult times was an exceptional effort and something I'm very honoured to have been a part of. It was a fun filled weekend with lots of laughs, great weather, fantastic atmosphere and most importantly lots of happy tiny truckers. The event also managed to raise a truly exceptional £1400 for a local primary school with the very kind donation of raffle prizes from various individuals/companies. This is only the beginning for The Southern Scale Trail with planning already firmly in place for next year. Clear your diaries and come and join us 24th-25th April 2021 where we will be bigger and better. Gate 13 will be waiting!! 2. Just wondering who if anyone apart from me, has an HPI Venture? I bought one a few weeks ago to keep my TRX-4 company and I must say it's a cracking thing out of the box. Wanted to be a bit different from your Axials and GMades. Spec wise, I bought the RTR model (would have bought the kit but you can't get an FJ body anywhere at present) which is pretty good straight out the box. The stock motor and ESC work very well. Despite that, I swapped the motor out for a Holmes Hobbies CrawlMaster Sport 13T and have a Hobbywing ESC on the way. The stock servo is rubbish so I put a 20KG Power HD in there which is working lovely! I've brought the bumpers in, trimmed the FJ's arches to fit some Hyrax 1.9" tyres and I've got ScalerFab sliders on the sides, other than that, it's as it was for now. I did make a crude light kit for the body. When the clear FJ's are back in stock, I plan on making a decent one as all the lens kits can be had on Shapeways.

  4. Yep. It is nuts. I ended up getting rpm replacements. Not the a arms though, mine are still usable. once they go I will get the rpm ones.

  5. It’s very disappointing, but I’m sure I’ll be able to sort the problem out with a shim or two. I’m hoping to use it in a lightweight, low CoG build that I’m planning 🤞

  6. Such a shame about the Ham transmission but glad you could get the rig running. Looking forward to seeing the work on the bodywork!

  7. I wonder if the Kronos wing mount would fit on the Hyper ST with a little work... What's the spacing between the two mounting holes on the Corally wing mount?

  8. It will be one of the best improvements you’ve ever made to an RC Car honestly. Just dremel out the cross brace and it fits in stock location too

  10. Thanks @Andy-Roo. The ball is now rolling again - I've secured a 'Daddy-skive Day' in a couple of weeks and the funds to buy a soldering iron. Yay!

  11. I’m running both Traxxas GTS and SSD shocks. Am very happy with both and would happily recommend either 👍

  12. Evening folks.. Sorry for the lack of updates on this, there has been some progress though - the chassis is completely finished and is now a runner! I did have to take a few steps back to get it done though. I thought it was at that point when stuck battery in it for test drive, just to make sure it was buttoned up...and found it sounded like an old black cab with star ship mileage on it! Something was very wrong so I started pulling it apart looking for the culprit. It turned out it was the Ham transmission. There’s slight fore and aft play in the output shaft which was causing two of the gears to clash 🤬 It pee’d me off so much I pulled it out and fitted a VP 3 gear transmission, that I happened to have in stock for a future project. The swap didn’t take long but while I was doing this I decided that the extension leads I’d previously fitted had to go too. I wasn’t happy with the plugs so I pulled out the electrics and used my new soldering iron to cut and shut the leads. No more extension plugs. I also used this opportunity to swap out the blue sleeving I’d fitted for nice subtle black. So at this point I was much more happy with the chassis but there was one big down side to going the 3 gear route....the Yota’s interior! I either cut a big hole in it so it fit over the transmission, or I just forgot about the interior. Cutting a big hole is probably what I’ll do but for now I’m moving on with body and I’ll circle back and tackle the “the big hole” at a later date. Anyway, here’s some pics.. Just missing the battery strap here but it’s essentially done ✅ Oh, did I mention the new wheels? 😁 I’d seen these Boom racing adjustable offset split rims (still with beadlock) a few months back but they weren’t in stock, but now they are and I pulled the trigger. I couldn’t resist taking it out for shakedown run (the body has only been sanded at the this point) I’m really happy with how it performed and I’m sure once the tyres/foams have had a chance to ‘bed in’ it should only get better. Am deep into the bodywork right now - which I’ve done a great job of making a mess of....but more about that, next time.

  16. It’s worth a go, I see lots of posts /videos on these cars and very few have issues with the batteries, so you could just have been unlucky.

  17. Red is low voltage cutoff or thermal shutdown I think ? Check your lipo cells wait for it too cool down or try rebinding it if that don’t work download the esc manual if the Traxxas site

  19. I run these in my LC Racing buggy, the WL toys is very similar, might be worth a look. you may need to get an adaptor or re-solder the connector on your esc as the battery comes with an XT60 connector and I think yours has a Deans connector? https://hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-nano-tech-2200mah-2s-35-70c-lipo-pack.html?queryID=1226233b0ac231026b7d7ef8f52410c0&objectID=30638&indexName=hbk_live_magento_en_us_products

  21. Depends entirely on how much money you have to burn, really. The Firma 160 with an entire eco-system (batteries, charger) is nice, but incredibly expensive. For that kind of money you can get a new 1717 and the new MMX8s ESC, which i'd take over the Firma stuff any day. Overkill, absolutely - but since you're planning to use a 1/5th ESC anyway (the Firma 160 is a 1/5th ESC, my DBXL-E comes RTR with it), definitely the better choice. Runs very cool in the EXB too. That said, if you really need the SMART stuff, i'd probably go for a Firma 150a (which is basically what the stock Kraton comes with, with the added SMART stuff). That said: the smartest choice would probably be a Max6 and a Rocket 4092. Reasonably priced and will definitely last longer than the diffs on the EXB.

  25. In for £0.01p, in for £many. Rock Beasts and soft springs for the dampers have been ordered... Couldn't help myself! I've been following a build of a LWB JK on SBG and the Rock Beasts just look..right.

  26. Super fast delivery from Modelsport. My delrin sheet arrived too! The Modelsport order included some paint and soldering gear (hoping for an iron for my birthday) So I have some paint to do some detailing on the interior. The dampers are on backorder, due in October...

  27. try HSN: 1.5 Turns Out LSN: 1.25 Turns Out the needles do different things ( got rid of my baja a long time ago am afraid so someone might have to correct me here lol ) one will correct idle and pullaway other one adjusts topend etc set it back to factory settings if it runs loppy adjust the low end i think til the idle rises slightly give it a full blast run then adjust the high end until you hear it rev out nicely

  28. Dampers and ESC ordered. Whilst the dampers aren't due to arrive until next month, I can work on the battery placement and the rear deck. If I get the opportunity! It will live one day...

  30. A little progress today, put the GCM mounts back on the rear, located my ABS sheet from my stock. Unfortunately, it is way too thin to use for damper mounts. I'm going to have one last go at putting the 62mm dampers back on the rear and see if I can continue to use them - perhaps with the big Pro-Line tyres. If it doesn't work, I'll be ordering some Acetal and another set of 75mm dampers. I also dug out the rear cage and had a look at the new battery. Really pleased that I can still access the battery with the cage in place. EDIT: had another look at the front driveshaft - compressed the shock and no contact made this time. Another issue though - steering arm rubbing on the servo case at full compression instead! Going to move the damper down and throw on the bigger tyres.

  32. Took the enduro out for a quick run out on the hills yesterday. The pumpkin guard really helps to reduce hangups. It slides much better over rocks. With having two small kids I don't get a lot of time for extended runs, so I've ordered a smaller battery as the 2200mah batteries seem to last for ages and I'm carrying extra weight for no reason. Hope you like the pictures. As you can see here I think my next investment should be in dual stage foams, as side hilling is a bit of a problem! Sent from my VOG-L09 using Tapatalk

  33. SSD or Traxxas shocks seem to be among the most highly regarded. I e not tried the SSD yet but have lots of Traxxas shocks which are super smooth and leak free [emoji106] https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/392824521644 Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk

  34. I had another day of fun today in a forest. I noted a few things. Original Axial shocks are not great as two rear ones are leaking already. Can anyone recommend any decent ones? Second question is easy. Does anybody have a 1.9 inch spear wheel with tyre that I could buy? Ordering a full set of four just to have one hanging at the rear seems to be a little overkill. Any offers? Sent from my CLT-L09 using Tapatalk

  36. I thought the same before mounting it, but as it is a truck with good lateral angles, it holds up well, but when you are climbing something extreme, it keeps the car more stable and in case of a hit on the accelerator the car jumps more straight At the moment I love how it has improved

  38. Eventually I got it all together [emoji123]. Despite my rather shabby job with spraying I'm quite happy with final results. Massive thanks to everyone for their advices and patience[emoji6] Hopefully there will be some open country tests on Thursday. Few bits needs some fine tuning and I will think about some nice decal too.. Sent from my CLT-L09 using Tapatalk
