  3. Okay, yesterday this little budget truck blew me away with how it performed, it put a lot of very expensive rigs to shame...................but always room for improvement, seems the spur gear is not running true, so its getting an axial transmission out of the spares box and i have ordered a 45t motor that should get rid of the squeak, squeak, squeak. The tyres i have on did okay, in fact for budget Hyrax clones they did pretty good but it will get a new set of tyres, it has proved itself worthy of better rubber, so going to look into what i feel best for it

  4. Surprisingly none of them are actually that interested in my fpv drones at all, not even the whoops. I do think they’d be interested in “exploring” the world though with a dji type something so that’ll be cool. I’ve messaged 53hra so hopefully we can work something out. Facebook is frightening 😂

  5. Metallic purple, that looks a nice colour now! Will painting the black give it a slight pearl effect, i did a shell on my savage xl not too long ago and it backed with black and it came out a metallic purple pearl effect, its not the best paint job as i think the air was starting to get damp as i was painting it, but it does the job. i bought a ground anchor to winch out of stuck spots and i lost it out 1 day whilst out, so i seen ones on ebay that were well cheap, i got 2 for less than the cost of the 1 i lost, there was def a reason………. I did this today 🫣 edit- just looking at the pics of the xl they were taken in my old house, (that was too small, we grew out of it) them pics must be at least a year old now, shell stills looks like that though as i have another shell

  6. Have a look in the DJI mini Facebook page, you can get some great deals on there. I'd say between £250 and £300 is roughly where you should be looking. I'd also checked how many times cycles have been put through the batteries (can be done in the app), I think DJ say they are good for upto 100ish then they'll start to degrade.

  8. Has been a while for me and a build thread, really just want to document the journey from ordering to building, and eventually (hopefully) to drifting. I did now get all the orders in, most of it is dispatched, likely to arrive between today and the 11th - part of the RC will be coming from the Netherlands. The idea here was to get a capable drift rig, with room to grow, without breaking the bank - but also, not to go all the way to walmart level in cheapness. So the majority of electronics is middle of the road - with a bit of top end sprinkled where it helps. With that, lets see the parts list so far. RMX 2.5 S kit. Comes from the Netherlands, is the "middle spec" version of the kit (comes as the cheapest classic, middle S and top RS). Can be upgraded to the RS version, plenty of hop ups available and in general a capable chassis that is more capable than i'll probably ever be. A few options for motor positioning (in front of the gearbox, behind the gearbox, on top of the gearbox), ESC mount on the back, and well.. It's an MST RMX. Next, motor: Onisiki 10.5t, 3800kv with mechanically adjustable timing, and two slots for the sensor cable (neater wiring). Nothing particularly special, it's a mid-range motor by a company that specialises in mid-range stuff, some of which is well loved (their Gyro, called Daruma, for example). It'll do me well for a while, and leaves room to grow to something higher quality/more expensive. Next, ESC. That would be a XR10 Stock 2s. Again, middle of the road. Does all the things drifters want (which apparently means Turbo and Boost function, i've yet to figure out what that exactly does). There's a few limitations (380A burst maximum etc) - but it'll do me for the first year, until i'll advance to something more tuneable and capable. No reason really to start with a £200+ ESC with all the functions in the world, and then ruining it by faffing about with 30+ settings. This is simple, it'll work. Next, servo: This is on the higher end of servos, while still reasonably priced. It's an 18kg low profile servo, programmable through USB (again, something i have no idea about, gotta figure that out as i go but apparently does make a difference). It's not advertised with speed (it's stupid fast though) - because that's adjustable, apparently. I got no idea to be honest, i saw this being recommended a lot, so on that one i had to go with what "pros" recommended. I do understand that the servo together with the gyro basically make or break your drifter, so yeah. On that one, i've got to figure it out as i go. Next, Gyro: It's a Yokomo DP302-V4. This is probably, comparatively, the most expensive/nicest part in the car. In general, there's two gyros standing out usually: this one, and the Futaba GYD470. Everything else is cheaper, and worse. There's good budget options available (Onisiki Daruma, as mentioned earlier), but these two are just a step above the rest. Not much else to say, this is what makes your RWD drifter work by countersteering, as well as (depending on the settings) slowing down the "return spring action". As in, if you let go of the steering, your servo doesn't just snap back to centre, but it slows it down, making the drift look more realistic as well as easier to control. Next, cap pack. Not really much to say. It's a cap pack. I just chose this because it's aluminium cased and kinda looks cool - same company and "style" as the motor. I did order the MST stealth mounting kit for the shell, don't want body posts sticking out of the body. The plan is to run a "basher shell" for now: Big fan of 86s, but a decade ago my first drifter (that never really worked) was an AE86, so to go with the times.. nah. This one looks good, and it's cheap enough to not care about if it gets dinged up. It's made by Killerbody, so quality will be decent - has light buckets, as well as moulded exhausts etc. It also comes pre-painted, so i all i need to do is to glue some magnets to it, and put it on the chassis. Can't argue for £36. Yes, it's not "homemade", but that also means it's, well, not "homemade by me" which is an important part if you want it to look right. I do have plans for a "shelf-queen" shell too, but we'll get there when we get there. For now, this will do plenty. Also wanted the car to look reasonably stock, not a rocket bunny screaming bosozoku thing with exhausts sticking a few yards out of the roof and whatnot. So far, that's it i think. I'll run the Noble NB4 with it, already got a few ideas of what i want to do with it (lights, remotely controlled fans, different shell etc), but this will get me going in the drift club. I really should stop meeting new people with new RCs, all it took was an hours visit at the local drift track to convince me that i absolutely do need one of those. 🙄 Anyway, more to come within the week.

  13. Yeh i know the feeling I was sailing my tug about 50 yards out when a swan 200 yards away spotted a swan near me and it came down running on water straight over my tug I tried to move the tug but the damm swan kept aiming for it luckilly no real damage done

  16. Yes and no lol. I was considering selling the scorpion soonish to get something like an mt10 or granite for the kids rather than the old ecx that I have for them. Hmm 🤔

  21. I was exactly the same when I thought about doing the fuel filler but took it nice and slowly and used a very small hand drill drilled the outline with small holes and then filled to fit the sliders work the same as stock ones didn’t think of that when I ordered the so turned out perfect 😆 as for the colour I’m doing it tamiya ps-18 backed with black should work out how I’m hoping it will 🙏

  22. Thanks 🙂 I did see the fuel filler but i was too worried to cut it out as knowing my luck i would end up making it squint or the hole too big or both 😂 i did also see them alloy rock sliders and thought they nice bits but wasnt sure if the bodyshell locked into them like the oe ones, so what colour you going for? Here is a couple for inspiration. That certainly is a serious winch! I will just stick to the traxxas 1 that came with the kit, only needs plugged into power and it can deadlift 10lbs so its plenty enough but that being said there is some real nice ones out there, i do like the Warn styled ones especially. There is a lot of farm tracks all around my house so there is an abundance of places to go, today i was out for over 3 hours, would have been out longer my wife was due home from work and i had dinner to cook

  23. How come you don't think it will be a good crawler, mine is a slightly modified sca1e V2 coyote, and regularly outperforms rigs worth much more 🤔

  26. So today i fitted my front headlamp grills and they look awesome, am well pleased with them. So when i bought that a lipo step down doofy the instructions did say not to get it wet, so i thought no probs i will take it apart and silicone the joins so its waterproof, when it arrived today it has bent holes in it presumably to let heat escape so i had to rethink my mounting plan and mounted it as high as i could, tried it out today and success! 1 thing i will say with a 40kg steering servo is definitely what the car needs as the last 1 i fitted an etonix 21.8kg i think wasnt up to the job either. So went out and run down 1 and at least half another 3s lipos. 1 think i did notice since i fitted the telemetry the low voltage cut out comes on at 9.5v, i did expect it to be higher than that but thats what traxxas deems it to be thats what who am i to say otherwise, all in a really fun day today 🙂 Something else i will add, traxxas definitely got it right with the underbody shield, what a fantastic thing!

  29. Small test fit. The body height isn't final, it already changed since the photos - it sits lower now than on the picture, probably 5mm from wheel to wheel arch. Built the stealth mount on the RMX 2.0, for one reason: Checking wheels 😄 Got a small assortment with the used RMX 2.0, these and a black chrome set. The shell is missing a few pieces (mirror etc) - not mounted yet. Looking at this, i'll probably go with the golden bois, though have to switch tyres between them.

  31. Next charge of "stuff" arrived. The shell: Not perfect, as one can see at the front wheel well, the bumper doesn't sit 100% right (protrudes a little bit) - but very happy for £36, looks way better than anything i could whip up on the cheap/quick. First Killerbody, not disappointed. Next, the world tiniest ESC. And i'm not joking. This is the ESC next to a standard sized servo. That's a sensored ESC, missing the fan but the fan is even dinkier. It's absolutely miniscule, and i'm a bit concerned about it lol - never seen such a tiny ESC, already concerned about the power draw lol. I also picked up a used RMX 2.0 that i can't run because there's an issue with my battery, as you can see here: Yeah. Forgot to order one.

  32. So i have had a couple of days doing some bits n pieces (some not going to plan) so yesterday i installed the traxxas bec, phone mount and telemetry, all i got was the temp and voltage as for a crawler thought the speed module was pointless and then fitted chequer plating to the front wings, i really like this as it’s actually metal and not a sticker, there was 16 midget nuts and bolts on each 1 but its def worth it. Today i fitted an alloy motor mount and the top cover with a fan, fitted well nice i have tried twice to buy the bottom part of this too in alloy and the sellers always seems to come away with an excuse why they cant send it but at least they refunded me no problem, 3rd time lucky. I also fitted a more powerful 40kg steering servo which is running at 35kg at 6v but (i know it was pointless buying the traxxas bec) am also waiting on an rx bypass adapter and a thing that steps down 3s voltage to 7.4 volt so i can get 40kg out of the servo, i then decided i would try and fit the rear light grills again but had to drill the holes out a little bit bigger and the dremel took a grip and molested 1 of the covers so that idea is shelved for the moment! There is wires everywhere and there is more to come, what a pain trying to get everything neat and hidden!

  33. And so it begins: some of the most important parts (...) arrived today. I can at least now stealthily mount the body i don't have yet to the chassis that i don't have yet either. I'll solder the cap pack to the TV remote for now.

  35. Yes...but you might need to close your eyes...Cross-RC has just launched a new hard body version of the AT4 series called the XT4. I am seriously tempted even though I just bought the AT4V last year!

  37. Well, i went from having no drifter, to waiting for delivery on my new RMX 2.5, to now picking up another RMX 2.0 tomorrow as a swap for my Infraction 3s.
