  1. Probably a bit naughty, but Ive wanted to do this for a while. Originally intended coming here Boxing Day, but weather has been pants. I drive passed this most days, its part of the construction site for HS2. Theres a gate but the area isnt sealed off, and it does say “Pedestrian Walkway” so….. Took the Xmaxx, both Maxxes and the Rustler 4x4…… no major breakages (A Arm slightly chipped, bodyshells broken) and we drained through 8 Lipos 🙂 Who needs a silly crawler. Just POWER

  10. He piloted the truck brilliantly, it had more pace than we needed and conquered some incline / decline tests without any roll overs. And the odd puddle. It ran faultlessly. Than never happens for me. Of course, it wouldn't be a 'Crumble RC day without some issue. I went to storage charge the LiPo and the balance lead plug disintegrated. A few scary sparks later and I had everything disconnected . Any lessons for me? Had it been a Tamiya it might not have taken me two years to get it running...and it still isn't finished...

  11. Thank you. I really like reading threads when I'm trying to find about things, especially when they're illustrated. It's cool to watch YouTube, but sometimes it's better to read and look at photos - at your own pace - than it is to sit through videos at someone else's. Ads and jingles and dodgy mic's etc etc. This is why I think forums are awesome.

  13. In case people haven't heard hobbyking have closed their uk warehouse. They announced the closure a while ago and were doing a deep discount sale but this was suspended due to covid and it's never re-opened. https://hobbyking.com/en_us/blog/hobbyking-uk-closing-sale-deep-discounts https://hobbyking.com/en_us/blog/covid-uk-warehouse And the company "Lucky Stuff" they used to sell under is now registered to a flat in Northolt Middlesex In other news they were fined by the FCC https://www.fcc.gov/document/fcc-issues-28-million-fine-against-hobbyking-0?fbclid=IwAR228bDrf0Vy3RJMKTeXoP4S3jNp6wfnrL_lvxFlZtBCRLbQDT5f-FGkIq4 Shame as the UK warehouse was only about 30 minutes from me.

  14. Hi all, newbie here from Manchester. I havnt been into the RC scene for a long long time. Used to be into RC cars and raced a lot, Had a Tamiya Hornet and Pumpkin that i messed with made a drag out the Hornet when i fitted the Pumpkin wheels to it. lol, that flew a good bit. Now a couple of months ago i got a toy Heli while i was out shopping, and now on my third in space of 2 months. I dont know if its frustration in not getting to use one properly yet but i am waiting for my new Heli to arrive this week. Oh and i have a boat i am rebuilding and really want to make a 1/10 scale RC model of it when i get the chance. That would be interesting to do. This is it, just trying to work out how to form the hull to the correct shape. I am good with GRP and most things jts the hull shape and how to form the mould properly. so a hello from me and hope to be around for along time 🙂 Faffer:)

  17. I love forums too and for me I really don't get why Facebook is so well liked by so many specifically for hobbies like ours. Here's why; a forum layout is so much easier imho to find the information you need. Facebook groups are just a constant scrolling page where the same questions get asked again and again. Whereas on a forum you can go to specific sub sections and usually find the answer fairly quickly. Yes there are "search bars" available on Facebook but like on forums that task seems to fall below most peoples level of intelligence on how to use them as they seldom seem to be used. Great write up @horatio and love the paint job.

  19. After some speed runs on the beach I heard a strange noise and I seemed to be FWD only, so upon checking it looks like the centre diff has failed. The drive shaft turns but the motor doesn't or doesn't awlays turn. Can I just lock it up with ear plugs? I'll open it up later and take a look. Spent the rest of the day ripping a pair of tracers with my boy, they are so much fun. Also picked up a pair of WL A979B's and a WL 124018 to add to the fleet after some TLC, should be fun projects although I've not dealt with BG before, so will have to see how that goes. Thanks all. Mark.

  20. Ran yet another tank through the Savage but I'm getting more and more convinced that this engine or tank has an airleak. I'll try some different fuel once I've used what I have if that doesn't work I'll just have to run it until this one dies and get the LRP one of been looking at. Also tried adjusting the 2 speed but I really need to find a better place to sort that as I may have upset the neighbors 🤣

  21. Had a bash with the X today. Its soo awesome! Ive cracked an A Arm, it still runs fine, but a set of RPMS are gonna be £100. Ive done some research and the Wide X Maxx kit comes with the HD Arms. So Im going to pre order the Wide Maxx kit once I decided on Red or Black Some pics from today:

  23. Totally agree, great thread - it actually made me want a Kronos 😀 Can't beat a decent illustrated build thread. I come from an rc plane background and still refer back to threads created years ago on various forums.

  24. That's great - father and son enjoying rigs like this together. 👍 I think the Corally trucks are great. The XTR is compared directly with the EXB as you might expect. Prominent YouTubers gave the XTR some very harsh treatment, followed by some very poor reviews. As I'm quite sure most of us won't repeatedly lawn dart our trucks fom 40 foot in the air, the truck's build is sufficiently burly to withstand jumps and tumbles. In fairness to Corally, the front hubs have been revised, but the XTRs are still supplied with the original ones. This hasn't been an issue for me yet, but we'll see. By all accounts, Corally ship out the revised items upon request if you've bought a new Kronos. What's quite apparent though, the Corally trucks are smooth, quiet and the electronics package is (for some reason) much quicker and torqier than the competition's. 😎😁

  26. So, when it comes to bling, it has to fulfill 1 or more of the following criteria. It has to be useful It has to be shiny shiny Or carbon fibre-y So, with that in mind, the item here from POS was 2 out of 3! Just the ticket - nice clean shocks, axles and camber links. I didn't use the shiny Cap head screws, but used hi-tensile black button heads, which are more in keeping with the rest of the car.

  28. So, today I had time to take the body off and have a detailed look at the chassis. All seems way better than you'd typically find on a pre-asembled RC Car.I was really impressed by the addition of an extra body - that's a really nice touch, along with a spare set of decals.Instructions seem clear enough, printed in mono onto paper. It's not something I worry too much about these days as instructions are significantly better than they used to be. If you're looking for glossy, brochure-like instructions - these ain't that. But everything you need to know is there.Size wise, wheelbase and arm length are quite similar to a race-oriented Truggy, only with significantly larger diameter wheels/tyres.Overall, the Kronos has at least an inch or so wider footprint than a typical truggy, with this extra width coming from the tyres rather than the actual track width.A 1/8th monster truck with 40 series is likely going to be wider however - as this Savage demonstrates. So, the Kronos sits in a really nice zone somewhere between racing truggy and big 1/8th monster truck. With the shell off, the quality of this rig starts to shine. It's not your typical Basher Truck. This is exactly why I chose it over an Kraton EXB. Don't get me wrong, if my trip down brushless lane goes well, I may be tempted to get one of those as well. But for now, I don't feel starting with this beast has been a bad idea at all.I have no idea what spline count is on the alloy horn, but it's nice that they include one!Motor mount looks really nice. All the screws have tidy, countersunk washers for the countersunk, hi-tensile, steel screws. Nice. The chassis is 3mm 7075. Now I suppose if you jump to the moon and lawn dart, it's going to fold in half. If you jump intelligently and set your shocks right - 3mm of 7075 should prove strong enough for most of us whilst remaining nice and light. However - this is a rig that will typically have 4+ HP motor powering it, compared to a Nitro truggy that likely never see more than 3 HP. Food for thought. Front and rear ends - anti-roll bar need slight adjustment to remove a little too much float, but really easily remedied.Lower arms front and rear have the option for WCF inserts. By the looks of things, on the front arms, these can be placed both sides of the lower arms. That's a fair number of inserts.Making the arms more rigid may help stop the arms bending past the point where they break, but on the other hand......lets just say that flexible arms are generally what you'd need if you're bashing and rigid, stiff arms are what you'd be shooting for if you're looking for consistent, precision handling - especially in hotter climates - where plastics can get a bit wibbley wobbly.Camber on the front right wheel is positive - so this obviously needs some adjustment. Steering alignment seems good, with a hint of toe out, which is what I would usually start out with on a 4WD.Pre-painted body has a graffiti vibe going on...The body has an over-spray film left on, so it's worth making a note of this before rushing to put the pre-cut decals on! I wonder how many people have put their decals straight on over it?The front grill and light decal is large and doesn't really line up with the lines on the body, so I actually cut the lights off, fitted the grill first centrally, then placed the lights. The smaller decals are easy for most people to apply, but the temptation with pre-cut ones is to just peel the larger decals off the backing sheet as well. Then optimistically attempting to line them up as you stick them, whilst day dreaming of blasting the rig around. Don't bother.Cut the larger decals out of the sheet, peel one end of the decal, then roll the backing off as you apply it to the body. If you don't do this, between the static and all the other alignment issues, you'll end up with annoying bubbles that need prodding with a pin to remove. Decals on - this truck looks anarchic! The dorsal fin is an acquired taste, it's certainly different - in fact it's quite reminiscent of the old F1 racing cars of the 50's. There's no way I'm going to say it's less attractive than Arrma offerings - it's just different. I suppose the dorsal provides yet another surface to mount decals for your faux sponsors! One minor criticism - my body was pre painted, but also pre-scratched! It's no biggie, but I'm out of fluorescent orange. This Corally is a far cry from the Team Corally I knew growing up, with their 1/12th Circuit World Championships etc.If anyone tries to tell you that this Truck is a direct rip of the Arrma, rest assured, it genuinely isn't.The stand out for me is how silky smooth the whole driveline is. The gears are precision cut. XTR's are noticeably quieter than Kratons. These trucks are great news - Arrma and Corally should form a 'special relationship' and stop certain other brands from monopolising the truck market. One last thing - Corally. Their name is pronounced 'Cor'-'Alley'. Not 'Coe' 'Rally'. And definitely not 'Coral'-'Eee'. Please.....

  30. My Kronos XTR Detailed Build As a long time RCTech member, I detailed my Kronos XTR build in a thread. Surprisingly, literally no-one on RCTech has any interest in the rig and the forum is generally very quiet unless people have found something to argue about. I could add all my 'build' posts here, as it seems a more active forum for this kind of rig. Would that be OK?

  31. My Kronos GTR story starts here...Having read all sorts of stuff about issues with pivot balls and carriers, I was keen to see if they are the revised, stronger version or the ones that fall off. It's quite difficult to tell and I was looking for reinforcement webbing - but they look the same. The body has clips and tethers pre-fitted. This surprised me as early reviewers complained that they had to fit them themselves.Suspension is silky smooth, no rubbing of springs on shock bodies and no air in the shock oil.Steering is super free and with zero slop.Nothing looks cheap or poorly put together. All that being said, I personally would still have preferred putting it together myself. I still need to choose my electronics etc, so it would not have bothered me spending a few hours building this car and getting to know it.Make no mistake, whilst I find it quite difficult these days to get ultra excited about an RC car, this is a remarkable rig - it really is.1/8th scale is a sweet spot size-wise for off road trucks and buggies. Large enough to run on un-prepared ground, but small enough to have low weight. The Kronos XTR is certainly in that zone but it's bigger and heavier than my Xray XT8 at around 4000g. Considering the bracing and over-engineered everything,, it's still impressively light. The chassis looks absolutely sub-zero cool. My first upgrades will be carbon parts for the A arms and steering plate.Receiver is on the way. I'm still open minded about what Motor and ESC to use, but I'm very tempted to try the Kuros 185 motor and Corally ESC. Obviously, if you guys here think that there are better combo's to be had, please feel free to point me in the right direction. I'll take some more pictures tomorrow. But so far, I'm very impressed and can't wrap my head around such negativity towards this outstanding rig.

  35. Yeah, it's all going Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Discords and all that. I'm afraid I don't do that - not because I'm an old fart, but because it's against my personal values. It's the bane of many people's lives, yet they seem unable to live without it for more than 30 seconds. **Facepalms really hard** 🙈

  41. So, the AGF-RC A81BHMW has been on my bench for a couple of days and Christmas holidays approach......Neat packaging, rosey coloured displayNice alloy clamping horn providedMounting grommets and nylon hornsIt's looking like a very high value package with good specs. It's fine to run on 8.4v, so 45kg torque and 0.08/60° speed should be ample everything for a Truggy. Waterproof and also programmable (for those that feel the need to get geeky with their servos).Let's see how it does......

  44. No real advantage at all no imho. Hoon tyres are 100mm compared to the GRP tyres of 98mm so some would take that as a slight advantage but it's negligible being only 2mm over the rolling radius. GRP tyres with their various compounds (softest/S1-hardest/S7) available are more advantageous overall as Hoons only have 3 different shore hardness's at the moment I believe so you have more choice of shore hardness with the GRP's. GRP tyres are also proven better at higher speeds so far but then this isn't a speed run RC so it's not as critically important. This isn't performance based at all but I do think the Hoon 5 spoke rim design with it's dish does look so much better than the GRP tyres rim. Pity GRP doesn't make a nicer rim design. I've left the Hoons on for now as that is what the Infraction came with and it was a brand new set too so thought I'd give them a go.

  48. Ok made it all fit after some cable management, still can’t find rubber grommet for the receiver box! Here it is, first shell painted in about 20 years - didn’t quite come out as planned. It’s Tamiya ps37 trans red backed with ps-48 metallic silver then black. I made mistake of not laying down enough trans red - probably needed the whole can in hindsight and it was hard to tell how red was red enough! Apart from the silvery red sparking from too much silver coming through quite pleased with the rest. Watched a hemistorm video on YouTube and cut the overspray mask on the outside for the window rubbers then sprayed them black on the outside so they appear more Matt. I did the door shuts and panel joins with 0.7 micron kyusho tape. Looks good so far but will see if over time it peels away. Lights spliced to a single JST on the body that’s into the receiver, tested the winch controller and it’s quite clever - too clever. It changes direction each time so would work with a button but I wanted to use it with a toggle switch on the transmitter. Also not quite sure if I will drill it into the kit bumper as the holes line up with the bumper mounts, or get another bumper with winch mount. just need to work out now why it steers better right than left!
