  2. Fitted smaller tyres... Kept the single stage memory foam inserts after trimming 'em down. Will have to tune the shocks now to suit the lower stance... Ewan will be chuffed to be able to use it again after having some work done on it this week

  10. If you have a soldering iron try using the tip of it to focus heat on the screw. Leave it for a few minutes and give it another go...but try not to round it out. If that fails, remove everything that holds the axles in place, including the transmission if needed, so you can get the drive shafts on the bench. Then you can use a hack saw to cut a grove into the screw head and use a flat blade driver on it. Or, you could just sell the rig to me instead 😜

  11. Any idea whether I can get an adapter to get these to fit a Savage?

  12. There's a few but I can't be bothered with all that jazz to be honest. I have Vegas 18 as well, so I might give it a whirl on 18 and see what happens, if the same thing, then chances are it's just that I need more ram. Thinking about it, it's essentially taking about 40,000 pictures, so that's quite heavy stuff.

  21. I always thought the different length shocks fitted as stock was a bit odd.... I had looked at getting another set of fronts, but they are only available direct from Redcat at the moment and they want to charge a stupid amount (£60) for the shipping to the UK. So ordered a set 103mm XD piggy’s which arrived this morning from Junfac, I ran these about 7 years on my Wraith and found them most excellent 👌 I’m not a fan of bling on crawlers so used normal m3 button heads instead of big red alloy bleeder screws, I’ll also be changing the red bump stops to smaller black Axial ones 👍

  23. Not the greatest of photos but I couldn’t resist. Dampers moved up one hole so the panhard link will fit again and wheels refitted, now with Rock Beast goodness. Looks like a tight fit but just about there. Will get the panhard link refitted and then the second 75mm damper on the rear. Then some 85mm on the front. At which point I might as well have stuck with the original King dampers!!! And guess what, I may just do that to bring down the top of the rear damper mounts and make my rear cover. And as they are slimmer they will fit better too - really the bottom of the current front dampers need spacing out a couple of mm, which will need some longer screws. No such problem with the King dampers but they need a rebuild. Round in circles we go!

  26. Picking up from where I left off.. Next up were the front to rear horizontal braces, made with 3mm bar. These were fairly straightforward to make...once I got the shape of the first one right, I just used that as a template to make a another. A little tweak was needed on the right brace and that squared everything up nicely.. Next came the main braces that connect the front and rear hoops.. I was running low on silver solder, which was 0.7mm wire that was pretty awkward to use. I’d ordered 2m of 1.5mm rod in 250mm sections, that was at a good price, and postman had just delivered them. Result. This was my first joint using the new rods. They had a much higher melting point so took a little getting used to.. Once braced I took it off the chassis for the final pieces to brazed. I’m really happy with how it’s coming together. The horizontal cross bar went in without a hitch.. The diagonal cross brace wasn’t so easy because brazing on top of brazing is tricky. Not pretty but a good solid joint, and I used the Dremmel to grind back the access later on.. The finish line is in sight with just four small braces to go.. Much neater now I’m getting used to these rods.. The last brace.. And there it is, but still plenty of grinding and sanding to do before it’s ready for paint. Fast forward a couple of hours and it’s looking much better.. It was at this point that I decided to have another go at fitting the mounts for the towing shackles. For some reason I didn’t take any pics of this but if zoomed in you’ll see them on the bumper bar. I even fitted one bent sideways so it looks like it’s taken a good hit and was bent. Painted and fitted. I think it’s looks the dogs danglies, but I would, wouldn’t I 😃 Apologies for the pics, I was running out of day light 🙈 The tyres just clear at full flex 💪 So not much left to do on the body now - wipers need fitting and windows need dusting along with a coat or two of flat clear. I’ve got a fire extinguisher that I might fit to the bed or possibly the cage..dunno yet. And then of course I have to paint the interior, and that’s about it. I’m really looking forward to getting it out and seeing how it performs on the rocks 😃 Thats all for now folks 👍

  28. Here's a few oldies..... Mardave Meteor (custom), my original '91 RC10 Graphite with a Works '91 suspension set up, an SG Coyote, my original CAT XL with graphite chassis and carpet foams, my Works '91 Yokomo with a mag shot from a 1993 Radio Race Car round (A Final FTD that day), AYK Pro Radiant, PB Maxima and a Yokomo 870c Dogfighter. I used to be sponsored by MG bitd, and they supplied me with batteries and motors. If anybody has any old MG motors kicking about i would be very very interested in them so please drop me a note.

  30. Well, after X-Maxx, DBXL-E etc i decided, i need something smaller, to faff around with when i can't be arsed to lug one of the big guys around. After a bit of deliberation, i had a look around, and read a lot of praise for the new Team Corally range (Kronos, Dementor etc) - which led me, of course, to buy one. Here it is. Actually, that's a lie. I should say, there it was. Because after 10 minutes into the first run, on grass and sand, for no immediately apparent reason, the truck looked like this. To be very clear here. The truck ran 4s (i don't have 6packs anymore), it ran for a whopping 10 minutes before it folded in half, it did not jump (though it did have a few tumbles and cartwheels, as it happens) - this is purely from wheelies, and a few cartwheels on even ground after said wheelies failed. Good, i thought - great. Order spares, £60? Cheaper than i thought, at least that's something. All the spares arrived this morning, so off i go transferring all the undamaged bits over to the non-bent chassis. In my wisdom, i also recognised that the motor was pretty hot to the touch when i ran it for an eternity 10 minutes, so i decided to get a smaller pinion for it as well. After spending the entire day faffing around with what is without a doubt the worst manual i've ever seen in an RC (and i had a few), finally, an hour ago, everything was done. There it was, sitting shiny, straight, ready to go tomorrow. Remember the pinion? Yeah. I didn't mount it. Why? So far i've spend £40 in upgrades, £70 in spares and a pinion, £400 on the truck itself - and i managed to drive it once for 10 minutes, and now it'll be out of commission again for a long time - i haven't figured out yet what to do even. So then i started digging around a little, less watching the videos, and more the comments by the people who made said videos, and alas.. For "many" of them (there isn't that many out there in the first place), the chassis bent as well for no apparent reason. By that, i mean no "stupid bashing", just normal driving with the usual tumbles, of which i have dozens every time i take out my X-Maxx. I'm incredibly disappointed, and more so frustrated. This is by a huge margin the worst RC i've ever bought - i don't know if i got one that was assembled by a drunk on a monday morning, but this isn't fun anymore. Yeah, i'm venting here, but since i've seen someone mention that he was considering a Dementor too - don't. Get an Outcast or Notorious, or anything else. With this one? I'll fix it, once i figured out how even. Then i'll cut my losses. Hell, depending on the price on this new fix now, i'll sell it as a roller to some other poor sod. edit: lol.
