Eventually I got it all together [emoji123]. Despite my rather shabby job with spraying I'm quite happy with final results. Massive thanks to everyone for their advices and patience[emoji6] Hopefully there will be some open country tests on Thursday. Few bits needs some fine tuning and I will think about some nice decal too.. Sent from my CLT-L09 using Tapatalk3 points

Sorted, picking my new X-Maxx up tomorrow. Basically new, with barely scratched russian unbreakable shell and the Snap On van body, completely stock in box otherwise. Got a pretty decent price on it, so couldn't say no. edit: immediately first question. I'm not entirely sure, but with the X-Maxx, the optional gearing doesn't change the pinion - it changes the spur, is that correct? As in, the standard gearing for an X-Maxx is 18t pinion, 54t spur - the optional gearing being the same pinion but 46t spur. Yes? The recommended gearing i see popping up every now and then is 18/46, which is conveniently supplied with the truck anyway. Do you guys run that gearing offroad? Keep in mind i have zero experience or knowledge about the X-Maxx, i don't know what runs hot, what blows up the ESC or runs fine. I've got a stock X-Maxx (for now), can i run 18/46 offroad?2 points

I've had my tamiya cc01 for quite a while now and it's been one of my favourite RCs but I thought it was time for an upgrade. After a bit of research I decided on the SCX10ii raw builders kit. (excuse my manky feet, didn't realise they were still in shot). I quickly realised that power tools would be needed for this. These long hex screws are a nightmare compared to the little tamiya screws I'm more used to. It's coming together but the instructions aren't as clear and easy to follow as tamiya instructions (sorry, no more tamiya comparisons), I had to study each step and take it a lot more time over it. I stole the electronics out the CC01 to get me started. That's an 80t motor, turned out to be a lot slower than it runs in the CC01. Gearbox built. Done. Wheels stolen from CC01 to get me moving though they look a bit small on this chassis. The 80t motor was just a temp thing to get moving. I soon realised that I would need something different. I found out about 5 pole motors from another thread on here and heard a lot of good things about Holmes hobbies, however I like to spent a bit less. I went for a Hobbywing 1080 esc and an SMD Surpass 16t 5 pole motor. On 3s this maxes out at 7.4kph and on 2s is still plenty fast enough for me. The savox servo seems to have plenty power for this so that's staying. I had my eye on the Range Rover and Toyota hard bodies but at around £100 each it seemed like a lot for something I'd just to smash. Maybe I'll get something like that eventually. For now I just wanted a body to run and not worry about rollovers and crashing. I went for the Proline Rock Van. Wheels seemed to be quite expensive. Everything I was looking at was £25+ per pair, plus tyres and you're soon spending £150+ one wheels and tyres. To save a few quid here I bought a set of Fastrax heavy weight aluminium beadlock wheels, these came as a set of 4 (why do wheels always come in pairs??) for about £30. Tyres are going to make more difference to performance that pretty much anything else, my research led me to the Proline Krawlers. I went for the smaller size as I thought these would sit under the van body better. I'm a bit impatient and wanted to give the motor a good test so I took the chassis out for a drive. I'm really quite impressed with this motor. Loads of torque at low speed. This is so much bigger and more capable than my CC01. Time to get on with the body, I hate masking and it turns out masking hates me. I didn't do a particularly good job with the masking but it's good enough for me. It looks great from a distance. First colour on then into the paint drying cupboard over night. Those pipes are for the underfloor heating so it's really warm in there, perfect for drying paint. I found a friend with a 3d printer and they printed off the wing for me, Proline provide .stl files for a few extra parts for the van and the wing fitted in perfectly with the A Team design I planned. All done for now. I'd like to add bull bar and maybe some lights. First off though, I need to get it out and get some decent action photos.1 point

Tell me about it. That said: my plan was originally to get the new Arrma EXB. Cancelled pre-order, after doing the math, the EXB + Motor + the ESC i wanted would've been more than what i paid now for the X-Maxx, and in that comparison, getting the EXB would just be the worse choice. If you shop around, you can get bargains. I had an offer for an 8s X-Maxx for £450 with charger and one battery (not sure what that was about), with a broken bulkhead to fix. That's like a £25 fix. As a tip, check the UK X-Maxx owners facebook group. Got a few decent offers there. Paid for a basically new one now £750 in box, with the snap on body, russian body and everything that came with it, in mint condition. Not the greatest deal ever, but my other option would've been to buy a new one, get the russian shell myself for £130 or how much it is now, and then the Snap On body shell on top. I wanted an unmolested one, so i think i got a decent price. These £400 offers for a mint X-Maxx 8s on gumtree and shpock are just phishing/scamming attempts.1 point

Spares are everywhere, the bigger shops have everything between them, you can also order from CML the UK distributor or even direct from Corally in Belgium. The electrics in the Corally are excellent, the esc is a full fat rebranded Max8 with all the features of the Hobbywing Version, the motors are excellent and very powerful on 6s.... Ohh and the v2 parts campaign, be quick it runs out at the end of the month 👍 You won’t be disappointed in a Corally 👌1 point

I believe at present they are 14mm hex but will convert to 17mm. Ideally looking for something more standard monster truck look if possible.1 point

i see these are back in stock https://www.modelsport.co.uk/tamiya-spring-mount-lunch-box-2-/rc-car-products/31566 thats the mounts for normal shocks, i had to buy a whole parts bag to get em as i was one short with the 5th shock and gave dad one as well and they were out of stock should have 4 of them in the kit but more needed if doing 5th shock and oil shocks all round1 point

Just tried it and it worked! Thanks again1 point

yup, see the gold thing sticking up just behind my receiver, that is a pc mainboard stand off holding the top of the 5th shock on, the random screw i had only threaded into one of them, it is the bolt holding the 5th shock mount, 5th shock is easy, the shaft the goes right through the axle is what holds the bottom of the shock, just need to hack saw or dremmell a little slot for the bottom of the slot just enough for the shaft to slip back through im super drunk but i used a ftx surge oil shock i had kicking around as the 5th one1 point

hehe aye and just made em waterproof earlier, these are the shocks we are using on both https://www.modelsport.co.uk/fastrax-1-10th-75mm-aluminium-adjustable-shocks-2-/rc-car-products/17176 also both running 2s lipos on the stock motor now, gives them a nice kick, that vid was on nimhs edit: heres a pic of my lunchie insides from last week or so a simple tie rod can reinfforce the front of the chassis pretty good1 point

Got a list of things to do on this rig , but managed only to tidy a few bits and time the front motor a little quicker late last night..... Ready for an outing to MOA Nirvana !!! This morning.... Its basically what looks like bits of a broken up motor way that the council decided to dump on the sea front in Portsmouth for some extra sea defence... But to us it’s a super high grip surface with big holes and some very challenging moves! Bloody great fun had that’s for sure👍 The detrius!!! Shes sooo fine!!🥰 😘 Definitely be going there again. 👍 Had also taken the Toyzuki to drive but frankly it would have been pretty useless there, I reckon even a 2.2 sporty would struggle - where the MOA has so much control you can work it....1 point

So Arrma have dropped the 6S Senton, plus a host of other models. This is actually making me think of dropping Arrma! How long will they support these deleted models? At least Traxxas support their models for years!1 point

Well..! it's been many weeks in the making but good news is it drives really nice and looks good when driving FPV with goggles on and looks good seeing across the bonnet as your driving, also made a little obstacle course in the garden with ramps. Just got few more tests to do as I need to make some adjustments then I'll put a video together and upload it.1 point
