New Arrma 4S Models

Arrma have released 2 new models today, both designed to run on 4S. A Kraton and Outcast. 

 

They have a 3668 size motor with heat sink and fan and 120A ESC. They feature the same chassis as used on the Big Rock and Tyhon 3S models, with longer beefed up arms, driveshafts and knuckles. Another new feature these have over the 3S models is a metal spur gear. They also feature a tower to tower brace and 17mm hexes, with HPI savage style wheel nuts.

Depends on pricing I guess - how much more folding than the 3s rigs, as i reckon most peeps who want a bigger truck will still just buy one of the 6s models.  Does seem a slightly odd move though on Arrma's part...

Are these running on the plastic diffs etc from the 3S machines? I guess there's a place for these, but would rather see an X-Maxx competitor, the Reeper still exists? But with almost no support in the UK, it'd be great if someone else would step up to the plate.

I was really looking forward to these and now seriously disappointed ? So much plastic where it shouldn’t be, drive shafts, diff ring gears, entire shock construction, I could go on! Looking at the price these are going for state side you may aswell just spend a bit more and get a 6S.

I’m no Arrma fan boy but I have disagree these look awesome an upgraded 1/10th scale running 4s out the box ! 

 

Not sure what’s not to like if I’m honest great motor combo upgraded spur and shocks all plastic to cope with stresses and both are  good looking, Nice and wide to handle the extra speed in the corners. 

 

Personally id love one trouble is which one and what’s the price ??

Waste of time. Plastic and more plastic. Why would you buy one when the v3 is only £20 more and much better. Arrma have taken a bit of a nose dive recently. Roll on late Autumn when hopefully that changes.

 scrap that just seen them £359 ?is a bit OTT I have to agree on that, shame as they did look promising maybe in a few months they will drop in price but yep the v3 would be a better buy at the minute while stocks last

For 50-60 more you'll get the full fat v4 6S versions. 

 

I can potentially see why people would get the 3S versions but these 4S are pointless. Marginally smaller than some of the 6S range but no where near as well built and not exactly cheap either.

 No the v4 is £100 more on Modelsport

Typhon v4 is £409.  Stick a Kraton 4S body on it and you've got pretty much the same thing in dimensions but a vastly better car.

The problem is they had to be between the 3s tyhon and the 6s models. The v3 models are the best deal atm I think.

No point comparing to the V3 1/8's -  pricingon those is just run out to clear stocks.

 

I've long said it, i'm no fan of arrma - mostly for how Hobbico treated it's customers.  The sale to Horizon meant plastic fantastic at a slight saving was inevitable - just look at Losi.  It's long worked for Traxxas, and I guess it's seen as the right business model.  Time will tell.  All I see now is arrma / horizon riding the wave of the current popularity and sucking a wodge of ££ from customers.  The only thing a silly RRP (or whatever they call it now) could do is give scope to offer huge perceptive discounts.

Plastic chassis do offer an advantage over ally, they don't bend. That's the same ruling most of us agree on with regard to wishbones and towers. 

 

But that's too much coin! Could be following the Traxxas business model?

I don't think they are following traxxas at all tbh. A rustler vxl 4x4 is equivalent to the 3s arrma line and its £409. The arrma 3s line is £269-309 the 4s line are still cheaper than the rustler 4x4. Yes they still have mostly plastic construction, but they are miles beefier, so I would say the £/performance is still far superior to traxxas model even if they are necessary great value compared to the rest of their own line up. 

 

The other thing is as well arrma do update their trucks every year to try and make them better based on feed back whereas traxxas don't. These 1st gen 4s models might not be that great, but think of how far the kraton has come from v1 to v4, by the time they get to a v3 of these models they could be pretty solid and have most of the issues ironed out. 

 

Another thing to consider is even though the 6s models are a massive amount more, if you are new to the hobby, once you add the cost of 4s packs vs 6s packs you might be £200 cheaper for the 4s vs 6s models. 

 

Another thing to consider as well is a 4s vehicle running on 3s is much closer in performance than a 6s vehicle running 4s.

Probably good to recognise that pushing stuff to market is not Arrma but Horizon. They did the same with Losi. Once upon a time, nearly everything with the Losi name on it was great, synonymous with quality. Then Horizon happened.
