From this, I hope to see where we can expand the forum and which areas to focus on. :good:

Done mate :)

Got into it through always wanting one and finally giving in at xmas ...  Best decision ever :)

The attraction to getting about with them ... Working upgrading (With Quality ;) ) and fixing them . Only aspect We don't like are how some are childish however they're in the minority as with everything . I'd be lost without Rc now and Still enjoy the challenges it brings  like with the next 8ight .  I pretty much enjoy every aspect . Meets are amazing and Met so many new people who're mostly good mates now .  More bashes I'm aiming to come to now also .

This forum stands out from all the others ... Huge  Size and population and so many helpful people . Only use Rccrawler, Rccrawling and Scale rc now as nothing else is needed :xd:  Others We've deduced seem to fail even in our time here .

Thanks Nick for the amazing forum dude

Jack.

Just voted, great idea! :good: time for my follow-up post...

I first got into RC when my parents bought me a tamiya TA04 touring car kit for my 14th birthday I couldn't wait to get home from cub camp to start the build with my dad! :D since then I've always had an interest in RC! In 2010 I had to move to the Algarve for work and couldn't take my RC's with me so took a bit of a sabbatical. I'm back in the Kingdom now and recently added a Firestorm, Hyper 8.5 and Mini 8ight to my collection :)

I love the meet-ups section of the forum as I was always a solo basher, it used to get rather dull rather quickly! But since I joined the forum I've been meeting up with the WLB guys quite regularly which has brought bashing back to life for me and introduced me to the social side of the hobby!

i got into it via watching off road videos on YouTube and seeing scale RC videos in the suggestion bar down the side, i started watching them and holy moly i had to have one! Bought myself an SCX10 and i took it all over the place and i had loads of fun with it then regrettably sold it :(

Went onto the bashing meetup section and now i bash every weekend with some canny people :)

Always wanted an RC but never had the funds. Mates at school had them and caused major jealousy.

Got my first (proper) RC last year at the age of 37 following a car crash. Had cracked my sternum and was going stir crazy so decided to buy a kit. Ended up with a rere Holiday Buggy which has been well bashed, rebuilt and now morphed into Miper (A buggy/truggy hybrid custom build).

Earlier this year Miper was joined by a brushed Carnage (early 39th Birthday pressie). Both models are currently out of action awaiting funds.

I stick with it cos of the buzz I get from bashing them.

This forum has made my RC life more enjoyable and has almost certainly saved me money. So far I have only met Nick and a couple of MSUK bods (sorry guys but I've forgotten your names) when up in Otley, but am up for meeting more of you lot.

i got into rc after seeing a neighbour running what i later found out was a hpi savage 25, quick search on google brought me here where i was helped to pick what model would become my first hobby grade rc and everything went from there.

i still do it as its a reason to get out of the house, its something no one in my family enjoys or has interest in so i can sort do my own thing without being question by my family but the main reason i i love learning how they work and go together.

been on most rc forums since then with varying degrees of interest in staying, i still go on 1 or 2 as they either have more mature members (something this forum lacks in places due to age groups) and other forums are for more specialised rc areas, certain models or types for example, and i can get more help there than here.

Hiya,. vote done :)

Got into Rc after discovering a RC club near me when I was 9.  A family friend way north of us had a Wild Willy which got me and my brother pretty amped up about getting a Tamiya.  At the time Kyosho were very expensive and for a 1st Rc tamiya was the go back then ;)  Took 2 years to save up and got a Midnight Pumpkin for local BMX track fun.  Neighbours and friends then followed suit with a Blackfoot, Clodbuster (with the big rig shell; forget the name  ), Hornet, Avante and a Grasshopper.  So we had a variety of vehicles to bash around with at the local park :)

The phase ended when school took a higher presidency but the Pumpkin still had a wee run once a month.  I inherited my friends models as they moved on which gave me a decent wee collection :)  From 16 to 34ish they were/are stored in my parents garage.  Then after my little brother in law got an Ansmann buggy which I ended up building I found myself diving right back into hobby where it is now an obsession  With me moving from NZ to Germany and a current visit from my mum, she was able to bring 1 of my old models with her.  I chose my old Pumpkin and she now sits on my work bench waiting for some love :)

All aspects of Rc interest me but my current president are ground based but with the near arival of a hubsan that may all change

Bought my first RC car (tamiya Grasshopper) in 1985, and a clodbuster a year or so later.   Both are still going strong!

I have always been into modeling, cars, planes, the odd boat, as well as being a land rover owner  (down to 2 now) and when I was made redundant a few years back decided to treat myself to a hyper 7 as I had some spare cash and was not intending on getting work for a few months.  Next came the Hyper 10 SC, then the SCx10 and on and on.  Now my nephew is getting into the cars I get more time to get out and about.  Next year looking to get a couiple of god 1/10th buggies and looking to start racing and not just bashing.

I belong to a few other forums, but only dip in and out of them when looking for something specific.

Keep up the Good Work Nick, best forum around - thanks.

Vote in place :) got my first Rc for Christmas when I was around 9 or 10 (was too long ago now) a tamiya thunder shot. It lived up in my parents attic until last year because i didn't know I could get spares for it until I seen someone on here doing a rebuild. it needs a bit of tlc and a battery or 2 and a charger. Have always wanted a nitro so decided 2 years ago to go on eBay and see what I could find ended up getting a hsp tyrannosaurus. It worked... Just. So I started looking and saving some cash to get something that I really liked the look of and had a presence about it decided on the hpi trophy truggy 4.6 got it on New Year's Eve of 2011 and I love it. After a few upgrades I haven't had to do many repairs and it is very rarely out of action. The only thing wrong with it.... it has given me the bug big time.

January 2012 a mate in work got rid of his thunder tiger DT 10. I loved this thing even tho it was fragile. Busted the engine in it so shoehorned a force .18 into it. This made it very very exciting crazy speeds and had very little if any problems light bashing around the ash football fields at my old home. I got rid of it early this year due to me not using it.

June 2012 picked up a hyper 7 black. This thing is indestructible only problem is the rx battery holder bad design would like it to be enclosed in with the receiver then I know it's not going to fly out like it did causing a run away in to a solid scaffolding bin. Only bent the centre drive shafts which were cheap as chips to get :) a tough little buggy

July 2012. This seen the arrival of the blade mcpx. Brilliant little machine. Through testing different parts and hop ups I've managed to get it to become more stable in various conditions. Such a simple little thing but can cause so much frustration!!! A simple hover makes me smile. Need a lot more flight time with it it is just really windy a lot of the time in Edinburgh :(

Skip forward a whole year and a whole load of fuel I'm looking into going electric and building it myself. I have loved the look of short course trucks since I had a look at the petrol models on the modelsport website and saw the baja sc this was around march 2012. I highly doubt I will ever be able to afford it but I love the look of it and the look mega fun to drive about. So after a good bit of looking about and seeing what others were running in their sct's I have my heart set on the TLR scte v2.0. I haven't bought it yet would like to have a wee bit more saved before I go for it. It looks so pretty. Thinking of getting the kit building it up saving some cash for the electrics and then beat it black and blue :D still unsure on the motor and esc to get.

That is basically my Rc history. I think this is the hobby for me and I have settled my self in on this amazing forum. Haven't used any others. MSUK forum has my full attention!!! Yes there are people that come on ask silly questions and there are people that will give silly answers but when things get out of hand a mod comes in and sets it straight. I have never fell out with anyone in this community I highly doubt I ever will so a massive thank you all the forum staff, each and everyone of you deserve a pat on the back!!! I have also met so many new friends on here and meet ups are happening on a regular occasion which I never though would happen. This place rocks thank you!!!

My brother got a nitro, so I wanted one. Had a dabble round and found electric was the best for me and spent months waiting for christmas to get an E-firestorm and then I was hooked. I loved the feel of having your own thing that you could upgrade, throw around and just have fun with. Got a savage, and decided nitro really wasnt for me then followed a series of leccy bashers, until I sold up for a while, only to get the bug and want another rc again. I saw garry's thread on minis and spoke to sam in chat quite a bit, and mini racing seemed pretty fun (fun is probably the only factor for me) so I got an M05 on ebay, now I have a race ready M05 waiting for me to pull my finger out and get down to the track.

I've found this forum to be the easiest to use and has the best community, other forums always seem cluttered and poorly laid out, the theme on this forum is clear and easy. The community is probably the best thing for me about msuk, places like the lounge and in chat are brilliant, and are probably why I still do rc and still come here.

Cheers Nick

always wanted an RC car, but could never afford one. parents didn't really like the idea. so i got a rc heli when i was 15. (for my birthday seemed to appeal to my parents more than cars lol) it was a honey bee king 2. had it for a year, was wayyy too complex for me to fly, upgraded everything. sold it on... turns out the gyro was faulty not my flying skills, which is the one thing i didn't change or upgrade. a shame really.

forgot about it all :P, i became ill last year, and suffered quite bad, resulting in no social life or any life for that matter... i needed to do something to keep me going. i was looking around on the internet for ways to get better, and things to keep me entertained. was looking at getting another rc heli, in the end i fell more towards an rc car, what ive always wanted. after lots of research and thinking weather i should go for it. (being ill suggesting i must not even bother using it therefore wasting money). i got the ever so popular hyper 7 tq2 in January this year.

had surgery in feb.... came out of hospital with a new hobby to look forward to, after already getting the hang of the hyper prior to surgery. so yeah learned so much and loved my new 'toy' to get me back on track in life. (loving my life now that i have recovered), i have since sold my hyper 7 and got a losi 8ight eu. from a forum member on here.

and i love it.

have never looked back :D, kinda wished i kept both buggies but other costs were more important so i had to let one go. thats how i got into the hobby. as for the forum its brilliant and the only one i use tbh.

only regret its not a cheap hobby by any means, but hey ho

I got into Rc cars in the late 80s, my folks (Santa!!) bought me a Nikko Cosmo 5 for xmas. I raced it and raced it around the street, various camp sites, beaches for several years (It took a beating!) Eventually I stopped going abroad with my parents, finished school and drifted from RC Cars.... started a family..

My eldest son is now 8 and he wanted an RC truck, so Dad had to have one as well. The eldest seems a bit bored of RCs these days but I'm still interested in playing :-D

right heres how it started

we dug my grandfathers tamiya avante out the attic and took it away when we went to the caravan

then come back and wanted a nitro ( grandad and i )

so we went with a carson dazzler/firestorm ripoff electric motor to start built in it was just press a button and go

we loved these then we traded for a savage and a bit of cvassh then added an mta4 and sold it then sold the savage and got another mta4  which we both love and bashes like anything shock sock on etc now we want a hpi baja 5sc ss kit

I started around twenty, thirty years ago,RC boats at that time,Nitro,Scale etc, then had a short sell with planes, didnt last very long, about two or tthee years ago I got into Helis, but am not the worlds best pilot, still have three ,Trex 500,&Hirobo Lama 30 class +Hirobo Schweizer 30 class Nitro,so about a year ago got into the big petrol cars, all them years ago,i didn't have the money for Helis or cars, and at that time there was not the sort of things that are around now.

The Forum is a good place to be,plenty of help on here & advice,a few amuseing things now and again.

  1. Your history in R/C, how did you get in to it, what made you stick with it etc?

My first r/c was a tamiya ford cosworth which i bought off my friend and i crashed it to kerb... i cant remember what happened to it.  then i bought a savage.. still got it 10 years later,,,,  now... I race 2wd buggy and onroad (supastox).  they kept me in,    huge fun driving it and racing it.

  1. Your experience on this forum and if you were or still are, experience on other R/C forums.

this forum are friendly and only use it to sell/buy...  and sometimes to get help.  it is much better than any forum.

I got into r/c as a teen, after a friend in the same street of me got a tamiya mantaray.

I got a tamiya boomerang and started racing after about 6 months of owning it.

I use this forum, rctech and my local club forums mostly.

Form done :)

Background - got into it back in the late 80's along with a few friends with a Kyosho Ultima. Lots of fun but couldn't hold a candle against some of the 4WDs it was up against. Went quiet for a few years then bought a Tamiya Blazing Star on impulse around 1999 after I got my first job, which was run about twice then kept in it's box. Can't remember why, but bought it at Xmas so maybe it was just the weather. I'd promised myself for about the last 5 years that I'd strip it, clean it and get it running properly...finally did that at the end of last summer and have well and truly got the bug again. The garage / mancave is covered in cars and parts with more projects on the go than I'll ever finish thanks to ebay. Hoping my son gets the bug in a couple of years - he's too young to really control the things yet, but does enjoy slamming them into a wall when he gets hold of the controls

For the forum, I use a few others for information as a lot of the stuff I tinker with doesn't have a lot of info here as it most of it isn't current - rctech & tamiyaclub are both great for finding stuff out with massive posts on some of my fleet. For some reason this is the only forum I post in, actively seek help or buy stuff from...just seemed a friendlier place that was UK based during my searches for info a while back, and seems fairly well moderated compared to others when trouble does appear. Previously only really used forums for gaming and the difference in attitudes is amazing...
