r/c racing, ps2/3 gaming, a bit of carp fishing and clubs/pubs. Raced 1/10th electric r/c cars for 18/19 years now. Started TC racing in the 90s when Tamiya released the ta01, never looked back.... :D
I am a team driver for Fusion Hobbies and have been for several years. I really enjoy being writing reviews of cars and helping them in general.

I also once used to have a Team drive with Team Tekin but although I enjoyed my time with them as the guys and team manager are all great guys, I gave this up at the end of 2011 to persue my other sponsor more closely and to enjoy r/c more without so much communication.

I don't take my racing seriously now, for me, r/c is about helping people/my local club out more than where I finish in a race.

I enjoy the racing, but that's not the main reason why my car gets put on the track! :) Now is the time that I feel that I should be giving something back to a hobby that I owe a lot to, as I have made a lot of good friends from r/c and had a lot of good times at many tracks in my time.

One thing I can't stand is the guys who race with a bad attitude. Winnings winning, but for me it's the taking part and being nice to others that really matters.

Remember the guy at the track with a bad personality???? That could very easily be yourself if you don't take a good look in the mirror now and then. If I am busy working on my car I will politely tell anyone who approaches me - if I don't look busy or in deep thought that IS usually a good time to open a conversation with me, and I will give an honest (and sometimes witty) reply :D

I am a logical thinker that speaks my mind and will spend a lot of time making this my strong point for everything I do that's in the r/c life of mine... :)

I tend to shy away from the politics of r/c racing unless I feel my input will help a situation with a positive outcome.

My friend Robby got me to join this forum, who made me realise that even if you are living with a disability, it is not a reason not to enjoy RC.... AND be competitive. I am not disabled myself, but have seen with my own eyes disabled people be A finalists.

Be yourself but whatever you do, make sure it's a good image that you're portraying. People will tend to treat you the way you portray yourself (unless they are assholes!)lol

I always give 110% effort to get a good result, but setup is something that I struggle with.

In my 20's I had the time to go to championships and do well in them, but now in my 30s, with a wife and sons, I have to think about them more than my racing.

The brands I tend to stay loyal to are: XRay, 3Racing, Zepplin, Team Titan shells, Futaba, Tekin and Ennetti foam tyres. My transmitter is over 14 years old and has only needed repair once. My esc and Motor is at least 3 seasons old. My Futaba servo is about 4+ years old.

You do NOT need the latest model of everything to race with - even more so at club level. I don't have endless amounts of money to throw at r/c. If your car is as fast as the fastest cars down the straight and you're not winning races its because you are either not consistent, you don't have the right setup, or both. This kind of basic information should be something that is common knowledge - but unfortunately some people think you can replace skill with your wallet.

I am an open book when it comes to r/c racing. Hiding what you know about the hobby shows that you are weak and that you think others will beat you with your knowledge. If you want to hide yourself away at a race meeting that's ok, but the hobby as a whole for me has always had an important element of casual socialism to it.

  1. It's never easy finding parts for older cars but I'm glad you've sorted it part numbers and ebay are sometimes the best way forward when you are searching.
  2. ebay seller stanton-co are selling the ze616 if you need it. maybe they have the other one, I've not looked tbh. All the best
  3. Your best bet would be ebay, sometimes a complete rolling chassis will appear if you're lucky. ZE616 is the first gear ZE619 is the second gear I did a google search and it looks like parts support is discontinued, rctech is a useful place to look around for info. Hope it helps somewhat. Team magic G4 might have some compatible parts, worth looking into if you have the time to.
  4. Does look like one version of the axis but the bumper does not look original. If you are lucky to speak with the right person with good customer service, I would try emailing Schumacher and see what they have to say
  5. Inserts are like tyres. The harder they are, the less grip they provide.
  6. Lots of practice and only changing one thing at a time to help you understand if it helps you or not. The T2 is an old car now so if you're buying it used, make sure it is in good condition. To give you something to aim for, when your fastest lap and average lap time are within 0.3 of a second you are doing well
  7. Hi, Does anyone know who fixes the above in the UK? I think the throttle pot needs replacing (again) as I cannot get any brakes from the ESC or calibrate the ESC with the transmitter unless I use the steering channel. It went a few years ago and it cost me about 50 quid to get it fixed. The guy I usually use is either not repairing them any more or he's on holiday Ty!
  8. Xray are strong cars, so you won't need many spares for them. The downside is they are a bit more expensive usually.
  9. My Tekin RS Pro has been a reliable ESC, the only one I've ever needed since brushless came out But the most it's seen is a 13.5 boosted.
  10. The right tyres are the first thing. Some clubs have a tyre rule so look into that if you have not already done so. Correct timing on the ESC and motor end bell are important to the operation of the motor and the lap time too. Batteries are not as important with a 13.5, anything over 50c should suffice. A car needs to be light, strong and have good parts support. I'd suggest a Xray t4 13 used or a T4 '14 if funds allow
  11. Greg @ RC-Disco put right the error they made with the postage and credited me, so all's good Roll on the next race meeting.... Car isn't perfect but it's miles better!
  12. Car was massively different last night. Took 4th in the A for qualifying, and that's where I finished in the race. I was following 3rd for a while, but a few errors made me loose some time.
  13. Just a quick heads up about rc-disco if you plan on ordering anything from them. Wednesday I got my parts (next day service) so top marks for them in that respect however... I distinctly remember ticking the option of having UPS delivery for peace of mind, (which costs a bit more than royal mail) and it arrived by Royal Mail. If the parts had got lost in the post, it would have made things a lot harder to trace. Maybe it was a one off, but the point is if you pay for a service, you should get it.
