  1. Second race day down. 3 heats and 2 finals. Heats had 5 cars and I came 4th, 4th, 2nd. Finals had 10 cars and I came 9th then 6th giving me a final result of 7th /10 Pretty happy with that for my second ever race day. The XB4 started making a not-nice-noise in the second heat. Turns out one of the bearings in the rear diff had seized and was wearing the diff casing and the diff was flopping around. I changed the bearing but didn’t have a spare diff casing. The change was huge (hence 2nd in the final heat). There must’ve been some serious drag from the rear before. I’ve got another diff casing on order now, along with a new full bearing set. I was also running the wrong tyres. I was on mezzo’s which are apparently better for Astro. I’ve got some mini spikes now (which is what the fast guys were running) so hopefully that’ll help for next time. 🤞🏻

  2. Replaced the plastic rod-ends with ally versions. These are straight, not kinked like the stockers, but with a shove they went on. A side impact to the bottom of the rim is enough to rip the plastic rod-end off of the upper arm. Hopefully these will stop that happening......... or just rip the whole arm off?

  6. Fitted the Muzzoom Models replica Team Tanaplan adjustment front suspension arms to the Procat, now I can adjust the camber angle at the front.

  7. Took the little LC out this morning, ran great until the end of the second pack when the slipper clutch backed off enough to stop play . Also had the PTG-2 out for its second run with some changes to the suspension setup.

  8. I was doing some testing at the track today on what looks like a very similar surface to you, albeit I was 2wd not 4wd. I went from Mezzos to Mini-darts which seemed to make a big difference, which is interesting as they're the opposite route of you going from mezzos to mini-spikes. I'm tempted to get hold of some mini-pins to try to as they seem to be what everyone recommends on grass.

  9. I ordered some bits from Modelsport on Friday and it showed up Saturday. Once again incredible service. I have some rear mudguards on my Notorious and I like them, so I picked up the appropriate POS application. Also big shout to @.AJ. who sent me a link for the front stone guards. When it comes to gearing, I have two extra pinions, which now gives me 24T, 30T and 39T options. I'm going to start off with the 30T. Also picked up one of those Hobbywing program boxes as I now have two HW systems and might be handy to have in the bag when out and about. Batteries look great, I went for the cases Gens Ace 8000mAh 100C 4S packs, which should do me well in the Kraton.

  10. Made it to the track today! Got permission to use the track outside of race days for practice/testing purposes, which is great because it's a 10 minute drive from where I live now. So I took the XB2 with me as the main racer and the Slash to use in between runs of that. The 1/8th class is a bit of a free for all at the club in terms of Nitro/Electric and buggys/truggys all running at the same time, so I'm hoping they'll let me squeeze the Slash in at some point once I have it a bit more dialled as it's about the same size. Obligatory photo (Photos seem to lose a lot of quality when uploading via the attach function, is there a better way?) Xb2 had 2 batteries through it, probably about 50mins run time in total. It's a grass track but was really dry and dusty (isn't every bit of grass in the uk right now?). I was testing out some set up changes and trying to get a bit more pace and consistency out of it. I Ran Schumacher Mezzos on the rear last time out, they worked well enough but I had some options in the box of bits I got with it. I tried some Mini-darts that seemed to be a lot more predictable out of the slow speed corners so think I'll stick with them. The track is quite rutted in places so I put 2 turns more preload on the rear shocks to try get a bit more travel, it helped but would still get the occasional bounce related spin-out. Think that may just be nature of the beast with how the track is in this weather. I also tried some Fastrax tyres I had kicking around from a long time ago that were absolutely rubbish and unbalanced so think i'll get rid of them! I went up from a 23t pinion to a 26t, this has helped on the straights and clearing the big jump a lot. I don't think I'd need much more top end speed on this track, so my comments the other day about having an esc with more boost/turbo might not be required. I finished off the day with a probably 20 minute run, ESC came off pretty cool to the touch and I could hold my finger on the motor for 6-7s without it getting uncomfortably hot, so in a 5 minute race run I think there's definitely options for more gearing. The Slash was ran on the 1/8th dirt track which is the other side of the shipping container in the photo. Again, really dry and dusty track with a lot of bumps and ruts. Probably resembling the hard packed/dusty tracks that the Americans always seem to run on. A bit less run time with this compared to the XB2, the whole 'fall-over nature' of short course trucks was a bit frustrating having to go flip it regularly, but I got a bit better with not putting it on it's roof by the end. It was really struggling with the bumps on the track to start with and seemed to be bottoming out on the kick of every jump, so I put a fair amount more preload spacers on front and rear shocks to get a bit more ride height and it really helped with both. It's still got the kit wheels and tyres on it, which had a hard time hooking up on the surface. I've got some 17mm hex adaptors in the shed that I'm tempted to use with some 1/8 buggy tyres as I think that'll be better for using what everyone else runs there. One 'problem' I was encountering was seemingly heat-related cogging. It's still running the original VXL system that came with the car, I know they are common for running hot and not exactly smooth, but after about 5 mins the car would really struggle to get itself going. Motor and ESC would be really hot too. I can remember them getting about that hot when I used to run it, bit can't remember the cogging being as much of a problem. I'm using better batteries than I used to as well, so not sure if it's vxl combo getting old or if running in 25 degree heat was just a bit too much for them. It might be something I'll look into replacing if I do end up racing it, The Hobbywing SCT combos look like a good option. All in, a really fun couple of hours with the cars.

  15. i dont tend to do how to`s but plenty on youtube as a lot of rc flyers tend to use the Li-ion in planes, just look at making 2S 18650 battery one thing you do need a hot soldering iron

  18. Nice maiden run! I got the EMB-TGH kit and built it in Lockdown 1. I have the older L6152 body whic h you can't get any more. Does the new bodyshell still fit with two clips near the front shock towers and one clip near the spur cover?

  19. I made a second Li-ion 26650 battery pack so its 2S 1p 4200mah , its light and compact and unlike a lipo you can safely take these down to around 2.2v per cell i now have 2 of these packs. I am tempted to make a 21700 2S 2P pack that would have around 7000mah, but how am i gonna use 7000 in a day in a crawler This pack cost me £16.25 to make

  21. Hi all after a wild day bashing my carnage about towards the last 20mins of my last batt the carnage started to make a rough clicking sound so I thought might be a stone in the pinon/gear no all clear and night an tight so soon as I pulled the trigger slow built up speed it was quiet but flying start there the noise was back so I think it's my cogs in the back might be bit worn as it's my hobbywing set up so time to open the car up and see what iv broken or worn

  24. Soooo.... I went to the local race club today. Was chatting to the guys running the day during practice and explained that I wanted to get a car to start racing. A member overheard and let me know that he was selling up to pursue other hobbies. He let me race his Xray XB4 for the 3 heats and the final! What a legend. I didn't even come last! One heat I was second to last and in the final I was second to last. Not bad for a first day! He wanted £500 for his XB4, an associated RC10 B6.1 (for winter carpet racing), all electric included, loads of spares, Sanwa radio gear, 6 shorty batteries, charger, tyres, wheels etc! Pretty much bit his hand off 😂 So now I'm the proud owner of all this! XB4: B6.1: He even chucked in the pit table and rolly box to transport it all in!

  25. Cant gel with the looks (same with the 1/7th one, why is it based on an old pick up truck? (Because Ken Block??), and cant see why youd buy it over the bigger one. 65mph needs space regardless of how big the actual RC is. A WR8 just looks fantastic, and has more strings to its bow

  26. Let me pre face this by saying Mark Saint Maria has an extremely good channel and creates some amazing content, especially if you like Traxxas, or the insides of RC (he has a great video about the financials of being a pro RC driver I found interesting!) I watch his videos quite a lot. Im a big fan. However he is extremely Pro Traxxas, he attends their HQ a lot, and even hosts their summer camps. Here’s his video on the new X-01: if you dont want to watch the whole video. Box Stock, with the app unlocked for 100mph mode……. 54mph. FIFTY FOUR! Or 52 on the GNSS Im sure it does more than that in a better environment, and thats a first pass. However, Im pretty confident most of my other Traxxas off roads hit 54mph box stock 😂 Apparently its much better to drive at slow speeds. So thats great 👍🏻 So guys either: Find a cheap used X-01 (original). Buy an Infraction Or just buy a WR8 Flux, and look better than them both and have something far more useable day to day. If youre going up against a 2022 X-01, why not buy TWO WR8 Flux’s so you can have one pretty one for the shelf. God I want a WR8
