  1. Part 1 of 3. If you have me on Facebook you might know I found a cool historic race car of a famous Japanese RC racer, former world champ Atushi Hara. It was a bara HB Cyclone rolling chassis dating from 2005. I've sourced all the electrics to install to restore it to the spec of exactly how it raced at the ONLY event the car ever competed in. It was built for one event only, the 2005 International Indoor Carpet champs in in Vegas. It raced in the foam mod class, TQ'd and won. He also raced it in the mod rubber class where he T'd and finished 2nd behind multiple world champ Marc Rheinhard. Then: Today: Its a complete one-off, with hand modified parts and unique unreleased chassis plates and believed to be the only surviving Cyclone the factory team raced at the event. Its lived in the HPI factory since the event on displayed, it was seen in a Speedhunters article when they visited!

  2. Took the trail van out for its first run today. Was good fun and enjoyed by me, the lad (6) and the little lass (nearly two and a half, she had a bit of help with the steering). It is quite top heavy with the big metal roof rack and van shell so was’nt too surprising to find it will happily traction roll when moving at speed. The first casualty of the trip was one of the wing mirrors that snapped off, during a roll, about 20 seconds after handing the controller to the six year old. Will have to find a more forgiving way to attach them for future trips.

  3. Part 2 of 3. For the 2006 IIC event the foam class was dropped in favour of just modified rubber. Hara came back to try to secure the title which eluded him last time. He manged to qualify P2 overall behind Reinhard once again but was victorious in the final. And now I own that car too. Then: Now:

  5. Part 3 of 3. Fast forward 2 more years and the Reedy Race is the biggest TC event in the USA. Of course Hara took part in it. And cemented his reputation as being one of the best racers in the world. Again the HB Cyclone was used, and again he took home a trophy. He Qualified P4 for the main final and won against the best in the world. Then: Now:

  6. And we are back with yet another wave of changes and upgrades. In use the truck as it was had a ton of power whenever you needed it, but it was far too much for me. The truck had also become very heavy and less of what i wanted it to be. I want it to behave as a fast cruising type of truck, i dont need huge air or massive wheelies or stunts or anything, just something to enjoy in the local parks on sunny afternoons. With this is mind i grabbed a few other parts and made a few changes. Youll have to excuse the badly formatted photos, its all via mobile. This is how the truck currently sits. Those tvps are custom cut with files i modified from a member of the hpi savage central facebook group. They are 4mm, light and strong. I also had him cut me a set of hingepin braces in 4mm, and a battery tray too which was entirely my design. I also designed a new servo mount which tucks the servo right in behind the front shock tower and braces the servo saver; pretty proud of that one . The truck will be converted to 4s only, using single batteries with the same mgm controller but a traxxas 540xl motor this time. It has a much higher kv, so should still shift reasonably with the lightened truck. Unfortunately i didnt get a chance to weigh the truck before i tore it apart but from carrying it around i can tell it is signifcantly lighter than it was already. These tvps flip the alza centre diff 180 to use a front motor configuation and leave room for a battery between the frame rails which means i will have to make/buy different centre driveshafts. This is probably the most abitious ive been with the truck, its stayed like this for months now and i really need to finish it off. The reefs servo will without a doubt be powerful enough for this truck, the linkage has almost zero resistance as it is fully ballraced. There is also enough room for the motor cooler traxxas have for this can, which i believe i will likely need. I went to a set of dace engineering hex adaptors instead of the IRC ones because i dont like the fitment method of those. These are a much stronger setup. My 4s gens ace packs fit well in that space. I need to machine some battery standoff posts. The tray has provision for adjustment forward, backward, left and right with slotted holes underneath. There is plenty of room for battery cooling too. I also switched out my IRC shocks for the traxxas maxx shocks you see here. They are smoother and handle the lighter truck better. They also weigh about a third of the IRC shocks because of the difference in oil volume. I weighed the tvps against the 5mm alza ones i was using, the carbon weighs half as much. I am going to fabricate a 7075 aluminium skidplate for the underneath of the truck because im worried about stones causing the carbon to delaminate. I probably need to epoxy the cut edges to help with that too. And this is a better look at the battery tray. Those two straps and my standoffs will hold the battery firmly. Im excited to finish this truck, i also have a brand new ford f150 bodyshell ready to paint up for it when the weather isnt so bad. There is much to do, a few things to 3d print and fabricate but its getting there. I probably need to stop modifying this truck and drive it more. Id say it is my favourite rc. Thanks for reading, NB.

  11. I have just put a racestar 4500kv in mine and I haven't Benn out with it yet but it's definitely faster.Like you I don't want crazy speeds so hopefully this should be good.No the mesh isn't adjustable as mentioned but I am sure it could be done.I reckon with a 2s this will be crazy.

  16. You simply dont see builds like this anymore, this is stunning! That said, I'm not sure how the 540XL will be? its only a 3670 motor?

  18. shouldnt make much of a difference david tbh as a buggy is raised up a bit more it wont alter aero a great deal and will give better airflow to your esc that way 👍ran the vorza with no nose cone in hot summer heat kept it a tad cooler

  20. Looks like i have done a lot but no such luck, cant really do much till servo mount arrives, i have added some stickers, stripped, greased and put oil in shocks, not a lot better, worked out i will mount ESC on under side of roof panel this gives a good cable run and makes switch nice and easy to get to, that is a 2200mah 2s just offered up to see how it fits

  21. I used a servo extension wire and chopped the red one to save cutting the one on the esc.

  23. Welcome aboard. I've not heard of that model so can't comment much on it sorry. All I'd say is try starting a thread in the "General - Electric" sub section with the cars name in the title and "help with questions please". Here: https://www.msuk-forum.co.uk/forums/forum/51-general-electric/ Lipo batteries contain "Lithium Polymer" cells hence the abbreviated name Lipo and the numbers refer to the amount of cells in the battery (in series). They're very safe when handled, charged and stored correctly but you will need to treat them with some caution as they can be a fire hazard. I've copied and pasted this for you from "RC Talk": Always use some sort of fire proof container while charging your batteries. Lipos can catch fire, and this most often happens either while charging or while running. Use a fireproof lipo container when storing a LiPo. Because yes, they can catch fire just sitting there. This is a rarer case, but it does happen sometimes. Don’t over charge your LiPo. Make sure your charger is in a Lipo mode that will stop when the cells reach 4.2v per cell. Don’t charge at a higher C-rate than your battery is rated. (we already covered this one). Don’t discharge a LiPo below 3.0v per cell – this can physically internally damage a lipo cell. If you have a LiPo that swells up like a balloon – THIS IS A DANGER SIGN! Take this battery out of service, and store it safely outside, and plan on discharging it and disposing of it as soon as practical. DO NOT try to puncture the plastic cell wrapper, that WILL cause a fire. Yes, there are lots of Youtube videos of people doing this, but it is a “don’t try this at home” kind of thing. There is plenty of information on this forum so do use the search button and have a good read at your leisure. Hopefully you'll find all the answers but if not you can always ask.

  26. Replaced all the hinge pins in my Xmaxx today with high tensile SS nuts and bolts. Also replaced my shredded 20t pinion with a RW racing 22t for a wee bit more top speed. The 20t lost all but 7 of its teeth in one bad landing. Was a nosedive from a silly height, but was still surprised with the damage. Hopefully this one (and my driving) will be better now 😁

  27. welcome mate 🙂 yeah mini scales are great! easy to work on and doesnt take alot of space too but only downside is limited to terrains though.

  28. Currently having a bit of Alpine recuperation with the family, and my BIL has bought along this relic - an original Blizzard. It need a little adjustment to the brake, and the ESC looked marginal…. So we took it out in the snow, and it’s a belter! It will get stuck, but only if your being daft. Just my phone camera so photos are little dull. Anyway great fun but a low turn torquier crawler motor would work wonders as it’s a rocket but the ESC smells a little scorchio now 😳

  29. That's interesting, my old 2WD ECX Torment BL version came with a Dynamite 45a Tazer ESC and 3300kv motor, that was almost 7 years ago now. In that time, it's served in the original Torment, a Ruckus MT, and now resides in my lad's Torment - gone full circle and is still just as punchy as it was when it was new, so hopefully seeing as its a HW esc in this one, it will be plenty up to the task.
