Why not just buy the Talion? What am I missing?

maybe shorter chassis = better? it will be more like an outcast?

An interesting question that i'm asking myself, in case it's going to be an upscaled Kraton (1/5 or 1/6) running the new Spektrum SMART stuff (or some other rebranded Max6) on 8s...

Would i take that over an X-Maxx? I love the Kraton, but i'm not sure that i'd take what i'd consider "a worse Kraton" (slower, less "stunty", probably not as tough either) over an X-Maxx. Slight predicament here. Bit of a brain/heart miscommunication, so to say.

why not just but a notorious isn’t that the same thing as what your planning ?

No I will leave the buggy arms on but use kraton hubs and hexes so it won't be as wide as an outcast but wider than a stock Typhon. The same with the wheels and tyres.Taller and wider than the Typhon bus smaller than the outcast but most importantly I think the look the business when truggyfied 😀

If they've upscaled again (Mojave I can forgive as it seems solid so far), then I doubt I'll be interested. To compete with the X-Maxx, they'll have to move away from flat chassis and get clever with plastics. For a large car that's still lightweight, a mostly plastic design is going to work best.

The drive-train must be bigger too, it can't be let down by undersized diffs etc.

But what do I know, I drive them, don't design them.

Yep agreed but sadly there recent 4s range with plastic chassis isn’t quite upto the job, so if they do go down the plastic chassis route and use that same compound I can see lots of really angry buyers especially if it’s close to x maxx money

My fear is they do a similar thing they did on the First nero’s, release a batch not quite up to the job then 6 months later release a new version with those issues sorted and screw over the first release buyers with issuing the same faulty parts and not the new and improved ones and warranty claims

Arrma do tend to have first release problems okay they do correct them but that’s no good if you just spend £900 on a truck for the next generation to come out 6 months  down the line and your faced with buying new or buying upgrades that should have been there from the start look at the uproar Traxxas got for it on the X Maxx !

Whatever is coming I’d wait a while before buying any new release Arrma 👍

Duper runs all his RCs stock first, and then goes on advertising M2C parts. At least he did with both Kraton and Typhon.

Can't stand Kevin Talbot, so that has to suffice.

Actually haven't lol, still a tossup between what's Arrma releasing (and i "know" now too), the X-Maxx and DBXL-E 2.0.

I'll make it dependant on the electrics they're gonna put in the new one, and the price.

Horizon need to address the radio gear, the lag is giving them a lot of bad press.

Other than that, I'd lean more towards anything Arrma over Traxxas, and that's based purely on the models, not the company ethics.

If that new RC comes with an STX2, they can keep it. And screw em too.

I doubt it though, the backlash was/is so massive, i don't think they'd dare to use that garbage on something new. DX2e Active is my guess.

In regards to leaning, i lean towards the truck that offers me the best value (i'm not made of money). The X-Maxx has problems with the ESC - Arrma hasn't actually made a 1/5th yet, so god knows what might go wrong in that one that needs fixing. With the X-Maxx, you know what's gonna break.

I will say, if it comes with the new Spektrum SMART stuff, or a Max6, i'll be tempted. Arrma doesn't have a great track record with their V1s either btw, the Mojave was the first "new" truck that didn't have major problems. And that's because there's nothing really new on it (Kraton electrics), same goes for the Outcast etc. They also don't seem to have learned in four iterations of their Kraton that it bends. So while i usually agree that i prefer Arrma over Traxxas trucks, "purely based on the models" is kinda impossible. First we don't have whatever you want to compare the X-Maxx to, and second, it's a V1 where everything is new (hopefully) - and Arrma isn't better than Traxxas in that regard. Just that they usually fix the problems in a new version, whereas Traxxas (apart from the X-Maxx) doesn't.

Which isn't great considering that it'll be X-Maxx money, just to watch a "V2" release in a year.

edit: also, i'll deduct points if it comes on a flat chassis again. Which is most likely if it indeed is a Kraton XL.

There's nothing wrong with a flat chassis if it's made out of the right material and has the right support.

More importantly, the right price.

Problem here being of course that Arrma doesn't have a great track record with either (support/material and/or too narrow of a design)

Most bent chassis I've seen on any brand of truck are usually caused by sending it or taking it to a skatepark and sending it.

Sending anything beyond its limits will damage it.

Skateparks always end in tears.

Not all plastic chassis solve this, look at the grey chassis E-Maxx trucks, plenty of those snapped clean in half. The 3 and 4S Arrma offerings can be easily snapped in half.

Basically, I'd sooner risk a V1 Arrma than a V1 Traxxas.

Oh, and because of the above, I don't send anything higher than it can handle and never go to skateparks.
