XV01 first run 👍

Took the converted Maverick Strada drift car  out for a couple of packs this morning 👍

It ran great no problems at all, got a few small adjustments to make but overall I’m really pleased with how it’s performing as a rally car.

 

The ghetto cover once again did a sterling job of keeping the crap out 😁

The TB-05 is finally done. Sort of. 
 

 

 

 

I could take this out for its maiden run now but I think I’ll probably try and spend a little time reinforcing the shell with some fibreglass duct tape before taking it out. 
 

Further down the line I’m probably going to wire up some LEDs to go into the light buckets and will try and design and print some parts to go on the chassis to keep the worst of the filth off the electronics. 
 

After I’ve run it like this for a bit I’m probably going to have a go at modifying the suspension (and chassis) to see if I can increase the suspension travel and ground clearance a bit to improve its off road performance. 
 

Quite happy with it for now though. Using @Cuiken maths (so taking into account money I got from selling the Tx/Rx, Servo and ESC/Motor combo that came with the second hand kit I bought) I figure this one comes in at just under £190 as it currently stands.

That looks ace a real nice build 👍 Tamiya created some great chassis, but seemingly sticks with the TT02 for everything sadly. Quick query - might there be enough switch lead to wrap the 1080 on off button round the axle if it gets knocked off though?

That one probably does deserve an extra cable tie to keep it out of the way. It seems to have escaped notice when I was tidying the rest up.

Well, I think the XV01 is probably done for now too. Might need to trim the body posts at some point, and possibly swap the tires for some rally blocks, but otherwise it’s ready to head out.

Got both cars out today on a mostly frozen dirt car park with the lad (and his three year old sister). Couldn’t convince him to try racing yet but it was good fun having them both running at once. The three year old managed much better than I thought she would but I wasn’t brave enough to let her try anything past a 50% setting for the dual rate on the throttle. 
 

I was too busy to think to take any pictures while we were out but have this one from when we got home. Looks like the XV01 is the much better choice for running in the dirt, going to need to come up with some extras to protect the TB05 if we’re going to keep taking it out when it’s wet and mucky. Probably need to glue the tires too as the fronts keep coming off on the XV01.

I’ve not got any room in the house to put them on display, so they’ve all got to earn their keep.

 

Shame cleaning them isn’t a bit more fun though.

Kinda late, kinda unrelated. My intention wasn’t to be in here,  but my latest purchase does fit the bill, kinda. 
 

 

 

Its a rally car (shell), it has a silver can (two!!) and it better be running under £200 otherwise Ill be dumped by my girlfriend 🙂

Any idea what you’ll need to do to get it running yet?
