Silver can budget rally build off

I’ve managed to spend a couple of hours with the screwdrivers tonight and have got a fair bit of the TB05 back together now. Got to the point where I need to start installing the electrics so will need to stick an order in with modelsport before going any further to get a new brushed ESC.

So far I’ve found one missing part from what I got in the box and managed to strip from the chassis as it arrived. Luckily I managed to find something the same size on one of the trees from the XV01 kit so it hasn’t stopped progress. I still might see about ordering up some shims to dot around the suspension mounts as there is a bit more play on the arms than I would expect on a fancy kit.

Ground clearance isn’t looking brilliant with the road tires mounted up; only getting around 12mm front and back. Will check again once I get some rally blocks on as they should help a bit but anything else may require cutting the chassis and getting creative with the shocks.

It looks good just sat on the bench 👍

This makes for interesting viewing!

I saw that the other day, puts the Tamiya motors in a very good light compared to the Carson.

I may have put two super stock RZ motors on my recent Plaza Japan order for when I want to step up the cars from the stock silver cans. Seemed rude not to when they only cost £16 a go; only slightly more than the torque tuned are over here.

I’ve managed to pretty much finish off the rest of the TB05 build tonight, just missing the ESC, RX and body shell now.

There were a few more screws and small plastic parts missing but I managed to find what I need in the part boxes (or the left over XV01 trees again) to get it all sorted.

It’s now sporting a rather quick 25kg brushless servo and a silver can motor supplied by the very helpful @tomr . I also tried out the other wheels to see how they look but guess I’ll have to wait for the body before knowing which set will best suit it.

Sitting next to the XV01 it looks quite different and feels like a much more delicate thing. Not sure if this will be the case when it’s being driven but think I might have to keep this one for myself and let the lad “have” the XV01 when they are both done. Or perhaps he needs a TT02 that he can thrash instead 🤔

Nice, are you going with blue on the scooby, my new scooby shell will be Metallic Green

Yeah, the plan for this one is to go with the traditional metallic blue and, probably, some gold wheels.
