Derka
Just a place to put my experience of trying to make things go fast in a straight line 👍 The car is a used Tamiya TT-02 Type-S which I bought second hand from eBay. Stripped it down to bare components and rebuilt it. So far, on a dodgy brushless combo that came with the car, which only worked half the time and then would cough and splutter and die I managed 39.8mph. I soon realised I needed to find a smoother surface and something more open to stretch the legs of the car safely. I have also raised up the suspension a few milometers in hope to try and make it a bit more compliant over the small stones on the road surface that really upset the car and make it dart off in random directions! Testing was cut short due to the brushless ESC smoking. Ive not bought a Hobbywing Quicrun 10BL120 ESC and put a 4.5T Vampire racing in. I'm running the maximum size pinion of 25T on the stock motor mount and stock spur gear of 70T. I am yet to test this but have made some changes which hopefully will have improved stability somewhat. I can only run 2S LiPo with this turn motor. I would need to drop down to a 10.5T to run 3s with this combo. On the bench it seems plenty fast enough and the tyres have not ripped from the rims to fingers crossed for further testing. I am doing this inline with the TamiyaClub Official Top 10 Fastest - https://www.tamiyaclub.com/forum/index.php?/topic/90511-tamiyaclub-official-top-10-fastest-rcers-part-2/& Edited February 16, 2021 by Derka

Lone-wolf
Good to have you start a thread in the speed run section, do you have a target speed in mind or just see how far you can push things, these little 1/10th tourers dont seem to like going in a straight line. Good luck for this project, i will be following your progress
Popular Post Derka
So I popped the touring car on the setup station and wasn't surprised to find the camber and front toe way out. The rear and front camber were around -5 degrees and the front had about 4 degrees of toe out. No wonder it was a bit of a handful. I set it up for a fairly neutral handling so fingers crossed I can get it out next week and have some better luck and beat my last speed. I don't really have a speed in mind to be honest, its just a project to tick along till I can get back to club racing. I'd be happy if it would go in a straight line and a actually be able to get some solid passes 👍 😂. Hi what is that set up that looks so professional.. what it do and how do you balance what's out (I guess it's a balance thing )
Derka
It's a Hudy 1/10 setup station. It's the off road version I use for my race buggies, but works fine on 1/10 on road also. The readings it gives are camber which you can adjust infinitly if the model has adjustable turnbuckles. The same is true for the steering links with adjustable turnbuckles to adjust the front toe. This is my one: https://www.modelsport.co.uk/index.php?product_id=359965 This one is specifically for 1/10 onroad: https://www.modelsport.co.uk/index.php?product_id=359967 You can do similar with just a camber gauge tool to measure toe and camber. https://www.modelsport.co.uk/index.php?product_id=36930 1
GMballistic
Didn't know you were doing a TT02 @Derka . I've actually ran a TT02 SR last year that I set up for speed runs on 2S, ...in the end I moved it on as I had another thing I wanted to focus my efforts on instead but they're great cars. One or two recommendations if you want it/them?; I'd definitely get a "Tamiya High Speed Gear Set" (part n# 54500) if you haven't because it will allow you to change the spur gear more easily giving you more gearing options. Eg. you don't have to use Tamiya gears and can use larger pitch gears. I'd recommend going to at least 48DP. Link: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TT02-013BU-Yeah-Racing-Aluminium-Adjustable-Motor-Mount-Tamiya-TT-02-TT-02B/353348506781?hash=item524536549d:g:qAUAAOSwahVfpBf- Very interesting guide here about the TT02 variants, mods and upgrades: https://www.thercracer.com/2014/08/tamiya-tt02-guide-mods-tuning-and-tips.html Something else you can easily do to help fit larger pinions is this mod to the chassis and pinion/spur gear cover. Pictures attached of the mod as easier to understand/see what I mean. Basically just cutting and filing a few bits near the motor mount. Picture here of the chassis before the mod showing which piece to cut out circled in red (also shows the spur gear I used which was a 61T 48DP spur from RW Racing). Modification done. Modification done to pinion/spur gear cover below. Hopefully that's helpful to you.
