  1. Over the last few months a lot of members have been having fun building cars for speed runs. This is the place for the MSUK Forum Members to have an official thread dedicated to the speed runs. To keep it simple, we will have a 2wd list and a 4wd list. If we need to divide it more than we can. The 'rules' are simple and follow the MSUK-Forum Guide Lines (https://www.msuk-forum.co.uk/forums/topic/3329-site-guidelines/) but with some small additions. How to Enter Please include the following information when you submit a speed run entry: Model of your car and which category it is going into (2wd or 4wd). The top speed in MPH and KPH and measurement evidence as stated in the rules. Your car's setup including: Make, Model, Battery and voltage 2s,3s etc, ESC, Motor, Gearing and Tyres. If I miss a speed run and don't update the tables, please PM me. I'm generally on MSUK at least a few times per day. The Rules Each member can enter as many cars as he/she wants. Speed runs will only be accepted if shown on video. Speed runs must have a body shell mounted on the chassis. Speed runs must be carried out in safe space to do so and must follow current CV19 Guidelines. If you feel I have missed something, please let me know. I'm sure it will naturally evolve over time as and when we encounter things. If the guys (and girls?!) taking part, could post their current best below I will get this started. Remember, its just for fun so enjoy it! 1/12 2wd 1. GMBallistic - 87.58mph - 140kph - Serpent 120 LTX 1/12 4wd 1. pieman5 - 94.17mph/151kph - LC Racing LC12B1 1/10 2wd 1. 2. Just a place to put my experience of trying to make things go fast in a straight line 👍 The car is a used Tamiya TT-02 Type-S which I bought second hand from eBay. Stripped it down to bare components and rebuilt it. So far, on a dodgy brushless combo that came with the car, which only worked half the time and then would cough and splutter and die I managed 39.8mph. I soon realised I needed to find a smoother surface and something more open to stretch the legs of the car safely. I have also raised up the suspension a few milometers in hope to try and make it a bit more compliant over the small stones on the road surface that really upset the car and make it dart off in random directions! Testing was cut short due to the brushless ESC smoking. Ive not bought a Hobbywing Quicrun 10BL120 ESC and put a 4.5T Vampire racing in. I'm running the maximum size pinion of 25T on the stock motor mount and stock spur gear of 70T. I am yet to test this but have made some changes which hopefully will have improved stability somewhat. I can only run 2S LiPo with this turn motor. I would need to drop down to a 10.5T to run 3s with this combo. On the bench it seems plenty fast enough and the tyres have not ripped from the rims to fingers crossed for further testing. I am doing this inline with the TamiyaClub Official Top 10 Fastest - https://www.tamiyaclub.com/forum/index.php?/topic/90511-tamiyaclub-official-top-10-fastest-rcers-part-2/&
  3. I'm wanting a larger scale on road car primarily for speed runs. Can you build a Limitless with similar speed/power performance as the RTR Infraction or Felony? I'm asking as I assume for max speed, the Limitless aerodynamics are going to be way better than the Infraction and Felony? That said, a low slung RTR Mojave or EBX Mojave could be a possible, like the rest of the line up for speed runs but the Kraton/Typhon/Talion would be more usable for general bashing but I do have an Xmaxx for that and short course bodies are not great aerodynamicly but I'm not familiar with the Arrma models to know whether there are major differences between platforms other than wheels, bodies, shocks and suspension arms. Let me know your thoughts...
  4. Evening all, I'm in the market for an ESC to pair with my 3650 52000kv brushless motor. I'm initially going to use it for a few speed runs using a 3s battery for short bursts. but for most of the time I'll use a 2s for general fun and frolics out and about. I'm running a WLTOYS 144001. I'm looking at the 60a or 120a Hobbywing EZ or quickrun ESCs. Questions I have: 1.will I get more top speed out of the 120a ESC vs a 60a ESC? 2. If I primarily use a 2s lipo would it be better to got for the 60a over the 120a? 3. Apart from the size and cost difference is there much performance-wise difference for ,y intemded use between such ESCs? Thanks Mart
  5. First of all, Hi everyone! I've got a smallish RC collection consisting of a 1/16 WPL crawler (ironically my newest RC I got during lockdown), a Team Associated B6, a custom scratch built drift car that's progressing nicely and then the Serpent S411 which I'm attempting to turn into a 2S speedrun car. Like everyone who starts a speedrun build I've got my eye on the current WR @ 132.65mph. As the limiting factor for power is the battery in this case, I've got myself a 3.5T Hobbywing XeRun motor (already technically slightly overvolted on 2S). In theory this is good for more than 70K rpm. Anywho, my question was which ESC should I be going with? I've got two contenders that seem to be strong in my personal opinion; the Hobbywing XeRun 120A SD V2.1 and the SkyRC Toro TS120A Pro-Comp. I have seen a few others but they seem to offer no more features than these two, yet cost a fairly significant chunk more. I'm not too worried about carefully working out my gearing as I'm working on a dyno to help with tuning the setup before I actually take the car out. I'm currently leaning slightly towards the HW because I've had a few ESCs from them in the past and never had one fail (even past the advertised limits). I've been using these forums for years to search for answers, but finally got to the stage where I couldn't find a conclusive answer for a question. I'd really appreciate any help or tips with this project.
  6. Hi all Can anyone advise on what the fastest motor is that I can go for, in my 1980’s original The Hornet? I have already upgraded the internals to my car and have the HobbyWing 1060 esc and using a new 7.2 v 3000mah battery but was wondering what the fastest motor is that I could use? My motor is currently the default one which came with the car about 30 years ago (there’s no stickers or anything on it so I don’t know what kind it is) ? Thanks.
  7. Hi, I've been looking into electric rc for the first time in a few years, and have noticed how fast the electric models are getting out of the box. However, the price does reflect the performance, and I cant warrant spending the £500+ asking price for these models. I was wondering, is there a way of getting good speed from an on-road rc for cheap? I'm after something fun to drive as well as quick, not just a top speed missile. The hpi rs4 sport 3 looked to be a good deal, claimed speeds of 70+ with the speed gearing, however, many people are reporting issues, and i dont think I'd trust the flimsy looking chassis on anything but a race track. And £300 is already a good amount of money, even before spending half that again on upgrades. The maverick strada brushless tc looks interesting. With an esc upgrade along with gearing changes, would this car be capable of handling the 50mph+ mark while being fun to drive down the park? Just wondering what everyones general thoughts/recommendations are. Many thanks
