So it’s true when Proline said they can’t make a wheelie bar for the PMT 4x4 because Traxxarse have a Patent on it...... Same story with a WP RX box....

  • Patent number: 7578721
Abstract: A wheelie bar assembly for a model vehicle has a mast member having one or fasteners for securing the mast member to a model vehicle, a bearing support member having a length and secured to the mast member for pivotal movement about one or more pivot points, a bearing support member having a length and secured to the mast member for pivotal movement about one or more pivot points, a bearing element secured to or formed on the bearing support member for contacting a surface underlying the vehicle and resisting a wheelie of the vehicle, an adjustment member secured to the mast member for pivotal movement relative to both the mast member and the bearing support member, and the adjustment member being securable to a plurality of different locations along the length of the bearing support member to vary the position of the bearing support member relative to the mast member and a surface underlying the vehicle.

Quite laughable really, the number of things they claim to have invented long after other companies had them in production. Another reason never to buy a Traxxas - the slimy gits!

On the otherside, not trying to be obtuse, im genuinely asking, but why didnt other manufacturers patent this stuff? A court has decided this is legal and acceptable so they must have some sort of claim to it? Just dont get why someone else didnt do ths to

protect them?

If others did that no company would get anything done for constant legal battles......its not needed anyway, says a lot about Traxxas if you ask me.....shocking.

Very true. In a way, the joke is on Traxxas.  As I understand it, if a patent is disputed, all the other company has to do is prove that they came up with the idea first - an easy task in most cases since the products in question are out there on the market for all to see. Then the patent is not worth the paper it is printed on.

Maybe they didn't have the funds to do so? Maybe they didn't fancy it in the shear spirit of healthy competition? I get the feeling that the Traxxas board's wet dream is to kill off everybody else and be the only name in the game. Hopefully i'll have lost interest in the hobby by the time that happens!

Look up patent laws in the US, specifically Texas.

Just read up on it, it seems ridiculous, BUT surely people should be made at the American Government for not sorting this out, not Traxxas?

Upon further reading, it seems that in May 2017, the supreme court ruled that you could no longer just chose a lax venue to pass your patent, you have to go to the local one, but Traxxas are conveniently located in Texas, so it is their local patent office. Very convenient.... Im probably still going to buy a Traxxas though....

Suprised any of this stands up mind, or is it a case of the competitor not having the finances to go against the big bully Traxxas?

Do you think that what Traxxas are doing is right then? It's like Shell suddenly patenting petrol.
