These we're high on my shopping list for this project:

Specifically the p1717-c17 as 8S happy, and allowing for droop and  running 1:1 gearing exciting things we're envisaged.

Sorry, Harvey, bare with us.

That's good to know. I have heard of Max6 and Max8 having issues where they refuse to start up, heard of that? I just hope my Max5 doesn't go the same way, I imported it and sending it back would be a hassle.

whats your budget for the motor?

As little as possible to get a reasonable to good quality motor.  I don't like wasting money, particularly as this will have low duty cycle, but be thrashed to death for a few seconds at a time.  The flip side is I don't like poor quality rubbish.  I'm after a good compromise...  Does that help?

Thanks, not seen these before.  Why not the C15?

Extra 200kv but, my understanding, is that the bigger can of the 17 series would produce more torque than the smaller (though longer can) of the C15.  I've no hard evidence to support this, it's more a general feel from seeing others projects over time.  What the C15 will allow is running that stock mount - it's a long beast so it's re-use potential should it not cut the mustard might be limited.

It might be worth an email to them for there thoughts, and to see what else they could offer...

More models are available, please inquire within.

Get  a NEU 1515/1Y. I have mine and waiting for the Castle Creations XLX to come out

Cheers

I've got a couple of these AJ, was just thinking of going a little 'bigger' to ensure success.  Have you seen the size of AJ's one?  (Oh Er Matron! :))
