  2. I was telling my wife how I got offered a really good price on a new Tamiya Grasshopper kit but turned it down as I have been overspending. Her response "don't you have to many remote controlled cars already?" I guess 13 years of marriage was a good run.

  3. After boiling the tyres off last weekend I finally found the enthusiasm to cut the foams(for more tyre flex) and re-glue them without making too much mess. Also fitted the rather expensive for what they are Traxxas alloy pivot ball cups 👍

  7. I'll just have to live with the cutout. Its not as visible as it looks. Can't really lower the front end any further or it will look silly high at the back, and the rear body mounts are on the lowest hole. I might just have to do another shell now to get the cutout right. 🙂

  11. Folks I'm selling my Hobao/OFNA Ultra GTP-2e short wheelbase 1:8 GT on road rolling chassis. This is essentially a pre-rolled electric conversion of the Ultra GTP 2 nitro using electrics parts from an Ultra LX1e. It's in good nick with only light use over the years. I have the original Nissan 350z styled body with plenty of wear in it, and a newer CLK-GTR style body which I painted up but never ran as I wasn't happy with the rear wheel cutouts (did somebody say Shelf Queen?). The short wheelbase makes it great for drifting (if you have enough space) and I have an Eurgle drift box I'll include if you want to try it out (I preferred full manual control myself) I have the original servo arm, motor mounting screws, box and papers. The wheels and tyres are included. It is very good at converting old road tyres into slicks 🙂 I had to reshape the top of the bumper for the CLK shell but there is plenty of high density foam still there to protect it from a frontal impact. Collection from the Cambridge area is preferred (you'll get both bodyshells) or if you want I can post at cost, but then I'll just ship one bodyshell as there is no easy way to pack box in the original box. Just looking for a good new home for it. Price is £50 (plus cost of shipping if you want it shipped) Lots of pics... Pictures with the CLK bodyshell - bodyposts are set for the Nissan shell, but even then the rear wheel arch fit is a bit off at the back.

  15. From the above I would recommend a Capra for both Trail, crawl and a bit of bash. The dig unit can be a bit finicky to set up but does work. Lots of upgrades and plenty available spares should you need them. My passion is rock crawling, don’t do trailing. The Capra is reasonable out the box, if you wanted more you’d be looking at bespoke builds with carbon chassis rails and low centre of gravity , overdrive etc. These then would not trail well... So horses for courses... One other model of consideration would be the Traxxas TRX sport. This is fairly bomb proof, can be made to perform on both disciplines and has plenty of available spares and upgrades... See what takes your fancy, but certainly with woodland you probably want a multi discipline truck 👍

  20. That's fine on 2/3S 🙂 I have the 2.1 version in our Kyosho MT 2, with 3300kv brushless without any issue. Ha, I had a Surpass Hobby ESC catch alight, luckily my neighbours didn't seem bothered, luckily the heat desoled the lipo terminal to the ESC! PS it looks like that's a "540" / 3650 (36mm diameter, 50mm lenght), not teaching you how to suck eggs, but if you didn't know, what's how the number convention on brushless motos work, so for example my 4274 in the Losi is 42mm diameter 74mm lenght. Fwiw I use exactly the same sized motor and KV spec as you on the Etronix.

  21. Hey guys, similar to our previous interview with Kevin Talbot, we will be putting the questions to @Tomley RC! https://www.youtube.com/c/TomleyRC/featured He has just got a new unit to shoot his videos in and is onwards and upwards: Great chap with lots of weekly content, so if you don't know of him, check it out. Once we've got a good bunch of questions together, we'll get them sent off. 😄

  22. This would lower the ride height but wouldn't give any droop so not what I wanted. Would probably work for onroad only driving. The touring car spring set arrived and even the softest option was too stiff so in the parts box they went. I then had a mad idea to just shorten the stock springs myself, but if you shorten a spring by compressing it you make it stiffer so I tried heating the spring on a gas hob whilst holding it with two sets of pliers and amazingly it worked! I now have two slightly charred front springs that are shorter and a bit softer. I did bend one but I re-heated it and managed to sort that out. I wouldn't reccommend unless you have no other options and a new set of shocks would only be £10 so no biggie. I'm sure the two springs I've done aren't exactly equal but close enough. So what did this actually do to the car? It has changed the ride height to pretty much arms flat, I haven't got any pictures but if the stock setup is like a monster truck, its now more like a truggy. If stock is like a traxxas maxx, mine is now like an erevo in stance. The handling has greatly improved, it can corner harder at higher speeds without scrubbing the front wheels so much, the car feels more agile but is easier to traction roll. It has also helped off road, the front wheels no longer bounce but actually ride over bumps and ruts. Overall I'd reccommend this mod if you drive wheels on the terrain, if you are just hitting ramps then its not much different. If people are interested I'll make a guide on how to squish the springs but it was more luck than skill that I got it to work.

  23. Its most definately a non standard servo, unless FTX were giving out Hitec servos at some point... Hitec make really nice servos, the one you have is one of the more humble offerings, but one that will likely be able to meet its specs rather than offering you specs plucked out of thin air and stamping it with 25kg... https://www.robotshop.com/uk/hitec-hs-311-servo-motor.html Speaking generally, some ESCs won't list lipo support and its usually due to them not having the right LVC for Lipos, e.g. some Tamiya's have a LVC of approx 4.9v which for a 2S lipo is a huge no no. There's an easy work around, which is a 50p volt meter, or probably the better option, one of those converters that have a lipo alarm/buzzer built in.

  24. @Ratty McRaticusThese things break quite easily but luckily parts are cheap. Really depends on your budget, but I’d say get a steel spur and pinion. Stock is cheap as chips but they get chewed up really easy and replacing them gets to be a pain in the arse after the third or fourth. Metal one eats gravel for breakfast, fit and forget. Change the servo saver. Get a metal copy. Plastic one is just a bad design. Get the alloy swing arm holders. Also replace rear dog bones with front Cvd’s, straight swap and more robust. Carbon top plate stiffens chassis up nicely. If you get the carbon shock towers, DON’T get the pro versions. They have all the same cut outs as the plastic version and snap nearly as easily. Get the one that just has the mounting holes drilled, WAY more durable (and slightly cheaper). Have fun 👍

  29. FTX would be fine for a first buggy or truggy. I half wish I'd bought the Vantage first as last as I'd probably still be driving it rather than the myriad of junk I've smashed up. For someone with a bit of experience wanted 3S and above power then I'd say Arrma Typhon, Corally Radix if you want a buggy. With the Arrma being more of a basher and the Corally more of a racer. For truggy style I am running a Maverick Quantum + Flux which I'm happy with but I wish I had spent a little more and gone with something more robust from Arrma, Traxxas or Corally. Practicality wise a 1/10 buggy is much more sensible as they're just easier to carry around. With a truggy or MT you really have to plan ahead and deliberately have it charged and ready in advance. A buggy you can just grab for a spur of the moment blast as it easily fits in a backpack. I think I'd advise all first timers to go for a buggy first

  32. Item description says that…should come with that… xt60 or deans without needing other leads. From your post up there a bit @245jhy it looks like you are happy to solder so again worst case is chop the deans off and change it for your connector of choice 👍🏻

  35. Hi I mention the VS4-10 as it looks really capable and doesn’t seem to topple over like most of the scale cars I have watched on YouTube. I don’t want to get into the scale detail though, which I know that I would, should I get a scale lookalike. I wouldn’t want to scratch it. It looks like a Capra or R1, or other, could be made completely, with decent upgrades to power plant and tyres, for the kit price of the VS4-10 too? You used to be able to find 1/1 off-road trials on Sky at one time, where the Unimog was king and the Suzuki jeep showed the Landrovers where to go, haha. I’m watching too much on YouTube and getting confused that’s all, a sign of old age no doubt! Cheers Steve

  40. Almost 0 rc lately besides a great crawl with the yeti last weekend and cleaning the rigs that are broken. If your motor smokes out the cable holes thats healthy! Tested a motor that was pretty nackered. That'll be the problem, now its a 3 pole motor... Fitted the banggoodebayspecial sway bars from my outlaw to the lads outlaw, didnt use the links included as the stock ones work better than those supplied, should be less floppy on the hill climbs.

  41. Hey up folks!!! Been a long time..... Had run into a couple tuning issues on this one and only driven it locally at home to which it proved it was very capable!... That is until today!... Finally got it out on some ‘Heaven’ high traction funky rock 🤓 In the usual way I had too much fun driving and forgot pics! But here’s a couple: This thing is IN - CREDIBLE!!! Just so so capable 👍 Even my mate Al who hates Sporties fell for this one and will ordering up a kit! 😂😂👍

  44. Obviously an older post but thought I'd add my tuppence worth. I enjoy Kevin's video and, although chaotic, I have learned quite a lot being new to the hobby. That being said sometimes I'm not in the mood for his vids so I watch others and then return to his channel when it takes my fancy. Between Kevin, Tomley, RCKiwis, RcKicks, tamiya legends, beyond RC, Shen RC, grandadisanoldman, RC Saylors, Ampro, Mark Bryan RC, RC Review, RcDriver online, etc. I've learned a lot and they have all contributed to giving my 42 year old butt the confidence to give the hobby a try...Kevin in particular made me see I don't have to be overly precious with my RCs as fixing, tinkering and building is half the fun. Anyways thanks to all who make the hobby accessible for born again kids like myself 😂

  46. Evening all, Been lurking on here for a month or so and thought I should say hello properly. My name is Richard, but mainly go by Ratty online, a 42 year old chap from Surrey. Pretty new to hobby RC after a small toe dip many moons ago with nitro Acme condor (aka "The Macgyver" due to copious use of whatever was on hand to fix the many MANY driver error related booboos) Bought an FTX tracer for my lads a couple months back and found I was more interested than them. Myself and an old mate have taken to meeting up for a good old bash in the evenings when we can, our most regular hooning spot is Brooklands Park in Weybridge. After promising my missus I wasn't going to get sucked into the hobby, I have since also bought an FTX carnage 2.0, SG1802 mini crawler and a couple of HS183xx models. Really enjoying bashing but also enjoying tinkering and maintaining the trucks too. Hope to speak more with you good folk and potentially meet up at some point. All the best, Ratty

  47. @Tomley RC Are you married? Please tell me how you do it?! I would love a unit full of rc cars, I’d even settle for a shed, but can’t seem to get her to see the hobby from my perspective. I’m currently resigned to the corner of the smallest room in the house. great channel by the way. You have a new subscriber!
