AJP
Please forgive me for this basic thread, I have tried finding the answer myself. I recently had to replace 2 parts on my car and using the tiny allen key tool was tedious! It looks like 90% of my screws are M3** (pic attached), is the M3 the Hex size (3mm?)? When looking for a Hex driver am I correct in assuming I need a 3mm? or is it an unusual imperial measurement? Finally, please can someone recommend a small pack of Hex drivers which fit the M3 screws, happy to pay up to £25. These look suitable to me : https://www.cmldistribution.co.uk/product/FAST615/fastrax-team-tool-metric-screwdriver-set-6-pieces Thank you, Antony
Derka
M3 (3mm) is the diameter of the threads. Most M3 use a 2mm driver. The number after X is the screw length. MIP are some of the best drivers you can get. As a starter you'd want a 1.5mm, 2.0 and 2.5mm. I'd say critically get MIP 1.5 and 2mm drivers. The 2.5 or 3mm drivers are used a lot less but the 1.5 is very important as the tolerances need to be very good as you apply a lot of torque to the 1.5mm screws like the pinion etc.

Nitroholic
I made do with a set of hex drivers like these ones ( not quite MIP quality...but plenty good enough) https://www.modelsport.co.uk/product/arrowmax-allen-wrench-set-1.5-2.0-2.5-and-3.0-x-120mm-4-pcs-40245 and a 1/4" drive socket set for the nuts and other bits. like this: https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/pro358-27pce-38-drive-socket-socket-driv/ Generally speaking, your toolkit will grow as you go, starting with a few essentials, and moving up to a lot more as you fill in gaps. My 1/4" socket set makes a good general purpose toolkit for car/home use as well as being handy for the RC works. I chose the Clarke one as it has more of the 'small' nut sizes an RC uses than equivalents from Halfords. 4, 4.5, 5, 5.5, 6, 7 ... all come in handy. The Halfords small set just gives a 4, 5 and 6 ...but the half mill sizes will all crop up.

Cheers mate, I've already spent a few hundred getting started so I think I'll go for those arrowmax first , and save the MIP tools for special occasion requests 👍🏻
Coxy84
To get me started I bought a set of these: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Neilsen-Precision-Hex-Screwdriver-Set-Allen-Key-1-5-2-2-5-3-3-5-Screw-Driver-S92-/303658424798?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0 They seem absolutely fine, perhaps not as good quality as some, but they're doing the job so far.
Yrkoon
something like https://www.modelsport.co.uk/product/fastrax-multi-driver-set-370422 would be fine as a starter tool, not the best of quality though but i get by with stuff like that 🙂
