  1. That indoor course looks great too. I'd been playing about making a couple of indoor obstacles to try different techniques before going for a big build. Especially around how to get some sort of grippy surface. I'd seen, and tried, paint just not doing it as it's too smooth. Had considered the stone effect paints, but they're soooo expensive. Was leaning towards emulsion with sand in it topped off with clear matt lacquer. Hadn't even considered tile grout!! That's a great shout!!
  2. Looks awesome. I'm just starting building some indoor bits with my little lad for our SCX24. So far cardboard and a glue gun have been my best friend. Am going to start with some expanding foam later to give it more of a 'rocky' appearance. Am thinking paint wise spray seems really expensive, so I'm thinking a cheapish tin of emulsion in probably a rocky grey colour and mix in some sand for grip. Followed by some lighter and maybe brown shades of spray for accents, then a good tip I've seen seems to be a couple of thin coats of matt car lacquer for a strong finish. We'll see how it all goes... 🤷🏻‍♂️
  3. Hey guys, I've been offered this tamiya chassis and 2 body shells for what seems a very reasonable price, but... The seller can't remember what model it is, and whilst I recognise some Tamiya models it's not my speciality. So, can anyone identify this chassis for me please? I'm trying to work out what the value is to see if the price I've been offered is as reasonable as I believe it to be. Thanks in advance for the help...
  4. Well, after much deliberation, and a tiny bit of advice from various sources, I only went and ordered myself an SCX24 C10. Took it for its first mini run on the included battery, totally stock and I have to say, I'm very impressed. It really is as capable as people say. Have already ordered some brass hubs and diff covers which should be here tomorrow. Will get them fitted and then it might be a shock upgrade on the cards next, probably closely followed by a new servo. My question there is which servo is best to upgrade to? Anyway, here's a first video, unedited, and a little rough around the edges, but I'm happy for my first attempt...
  5. @BigGinge Thanks for the advice. I'm just so torn. Can't decide whether to stick small with the SCX24 or go a little bigger with the Mini X or XC. Anyone able to tell me the real life difference between the Mini X and the XC? Other than the scale obviously.
  6. Thanks @rccar4life. It's not the first. We're gaining quite the collection to be fair. So far we're at a 124019, which is currently in bits being upgraded, an Eachine EAT10, which he's been using as a skatepark basher. An FTX Vortex boat, which we've taken down to the local model boat lake, and my latest addition is a modified Fayee FY004, which is awesome, but doesn't really crawl. I think between that and watching YouTube videos, that's where he's got the obsession with trying crawling. My concern is it's going to cost me a fortune if he really enjoys it! 🤣🤣 I quite like the idea of the longer wheelbase on the gladiator which, like you say, should make it more stable for him. I mean, obviously I'll have to have a go too. 🤷🏻‍♂️😉
  7. Hey guys, I've seen many posts on this topic, but most I've seen are outdated now (mostly 2020 posts). My son (7 years old) would like to get into crawlers, or he thinks he would anyway... So, I have a budget of £150 (absolute max) to buy a small scale crawler, from 1/24 to 1/16 scale. I've been looking at: FTX Outback Mini X FTX Ranger XC FTX Mini 3.0 Axial SCX24 Panda Tetra 18 & 24 Element Enduro My question is, which is the best for a youngster wanting to start out crawling?
  8. To get me started I bought a set of these: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Neilsen-Precision-Hex-Screwdriver-Set-Allen-Key-1-5-2-2-5-3-3-5-Screw-Driver-S92-/303658424798?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0 They seem absolutely fine, perhaps not as good quality as some, but they're doing the job so far.
  9. Hey Guys! Just a quick hello as just signed up. Been a big fan of RC for years now, used to race touring cars when I was younger, but then adulthood took over and I dropped out of most of it. However, Now my son is of an age where he's really starting to get to grips with it I've started dipping back in. Have found a lot has changed since I dropped out of the hobby, but enjoying learning new things and teaching my son how to drive RCs. Anyway, see there's plenty of fans of @Tomley RCon here, and I'm definitely one of them. Was mostly watching the YouTube channel that helped me decide what car to buy for my son to get started, so thanks for your videos.
