Traxxas X-Maxx.

The different vids thus far seem to show discrepancies in speed, wonder if some have been geared up a touch, or is it down to slipper settings? Seemed to be a moment in the last vid where a potential slipper issue was noticed.

I think the guy that fitted the 2028 has jumped the gun , what's he going to do in a weeks time when he blows the diffs ? Order traxxas diffs again ?

Obviously he wanted to be the first to do it , but imo he should of waited untill aftermarket ones become available .

The stock setup looks powerful enough to be enjoyable for a while or until somebody smoke's the stock combo [emoji2]

There is lots of talk and people modifying there traxxas  x maxx already to make it go faster either with gearing or bigger lipo 's and motors.

These breakages which are been reported on u tube or on other forums. Are these breakages down to these modifications?

If so can this invalidate your warranty? as traxxas have developed this to be a strong and  robust in its standard form. (Ie not messed around with)

Do we think there would be no reports of damage broken x maxx 's if people would leave it alone. Just a thought. Putting it out there.

Traxxas are notorious for putting out cars that are only fairly durable in stock form, but fall apart with the slightest increase in performance. They make cars that're fun drive, but can be weak. Not all of them, but enough to notice a trend.

A 2028 would tear out that plastic mount in no time at all. I'd be highly dubious about its reliability with such a powerful motor. This xmaxx looks big but the drive train isn't 5th scale by any means.

So would my leopard 4092 1480kv theoretically be an upgrade motor for this?.... If I can fit it with mods to the mount... I thought the xmaxx motor though shorter was fattist... :mf_laughbounce:

Yeah well like others have suggested the 1717 seems perfect for the x !

Good point duh [emoji18] could it not work in series ?

It could, but you'd need a 12S capable ESC and it would destroy the motor. [emoji38]

Yer I gather that much , my original idea for posting was to answer my own question of whether they'd fit in the first place [emoji2] .

I'll be quite happy on 6s and standard combo to start off with, then like you said 1717 on 6s .

The stock motor might well be ok, we won't know until they've had a few good runs, although I don't like the cheap looking heatsink they've fitted.

Yes i very much agree, it's early days yet an its probably a castle can anyways !

Someone made a comment that I thought was spot on , Traxxas seem to have known it needed that heatsink from the outset , I'm sure if they could of saved a few $$$ by not having to fit it they would of , and may that be the reason for the plastic motor mount , maybe the heatsink blew the budget lol .

From what I can gather, Traxxas have stopped using Castle, but that's not confirmed. It's probably true, otherwise you'd see a Castle label somewhere on the ESC or truck. The motor's gotta be cheap, hence the smooth can and cheapo heatsink.

It's a smooth can, probably cheap, so might run hot in a Pede, let alone this behemoth. Aftermarket motor mount and bang in a 1717. Sorted. (Well, it's got to be an improvement at least.)

31 mph  is disappointing

The more info I read on this truck the less I'm interested in it in stock form.

Something's not right about that vid at 31, I can't believe it was running 6S. He knows his stuff, but I wonder if he'd made a change and not realised it? His is the only one I've seen go that slow, except for the ones that were deliberately running 4S.
