fish6634
Hi AllJust wondering if someone can recommend a decent rock crawler for me?I don't intend on doing anything other than playing about with it in the garden or the local park so it doesn't have to be a spec worthy of competing.I quite like the look of the SCX10 but that is purely going on looks alone i am not too up on the specs of these things. Thanks
smeghead28
SCX10 is a good choice, loads of stuff available for it.Only thing is the RTR versions have plastic shock and steering parts whereas the kit ones tend to be metal.
fish6634
I quite fancy doing a kit but i am also very impatient and i am not sure if i could wait while building it before i could run it if that makes any sense?
Glenyboy
The problem is you'll have to budget the extra metal bits on top of the rtr, I got one and have had to replace the links and driveshafts after light garden use.
danb1974
You can also have a look at the vaterra ascender, it seems better out of the box
Gaz!
If you want something decent, stick with axial now is it looks or ability your after?for looks, nothing much on a decent budget comes close to the scx10if your wanting something more for rock bashing etc. Then the wraith and ax10 ridgecrest/deadbolt may suit more.as for rtr vs kit, do you have a set of electrics to use or are you starting from scratch?a rtr is ready to go, you can upgrade as you go, and it's not as expensive to upgrade as you may think if you look around
fish6634
I have never done any crawling before so it will be my first experience with it. I just want a fairly capable crawler to learn with i do like the look at the axial and vaterra crawlers. I like the looks but i would be swayed by a more capable truck than looks alone. I had a look at a maverick scout rc in my local model shop and it looked decent but half the price of the axial and vaterra crawlers so i can only assume that price difference must be for a reason. Gaz!
My personal choice would be a ax10 deadbolt or something similar based on that chassis.the scout is a good crawler for the money but in a completely in a different league to the axial ax10 deadbolt/ridgecrest. RCbutcher
Germany was knocking out the scx10 deadbolt for £220 all in. That's a pretty good deal sell the body if you don't like it they seem to get good prices easily cover the cost of a proline shell. My daughter has a dingo converted to honcho size it's brilliant I know scx10s can cost a bomb but this is the cheapest rc I've ever put together so they can be done cheap too. All of the elecs plus battery came up to £55 Inc radio and nothing has broken on it. I'm serously happy choosing that for her. An me. . ghazghul
I'm a big fan of the Scout but if you are impatient and want something running now, that keeps running then get something else. The Scout is a great project or a cheap way of getting a lot of parts for not much money. As a finished product though, you get what you pay for.. fish6634
ok so I think I have narrowed it down to one of thesehttp://www.modelsport.co.uk/vaterra-1-10-ascender-4wd-rtr/rc-car-products/387835orhttp://www.modelsport.co.uk/axial-ax10-deadbolt-1-10th-scale-rtr-electric-4wd-rock-crawler/rc-car-products/380165orhttp://www.modelsport.co.uk/hpi-crawler-king-4x4-rtr-ford-raptor/rc-car-products/389522 the problem is too much choice I have a budget of £
fish6634
or one of thesehttp://www.modelsport.co.uk/axial-scx10-trail-honcho-1-10th-4wd-rtr/rc-car-products/367217
Zombi
My choice would be the Honcho or the Ascender. Probs the Honcho though, as there's a huge range of spares and upgrades for the SCX-10.
Derka
I considered the Ascender and SCX10 chassis when I was looking into purchasing a scale crawler for this christmas. The Ascender is a good bit of kit, some considering it better than a RTR Axial SCX10.Im going for a SCX10 purely due to its tried and tested chassis with huge parts support and even bigger aftermarket. fish6634
anyone had any experience with one of these?http://www.modelsport.co.uk/axial-scx10-ram-power-wagon-1-10th-scale-electric-4wd-rtr-/rc-car-products/386990
Derka
It's a Axial SCX10 chassis with a different body. It will be very good. RTR versions generally have plastic parts that a kit you build would use metal but you can upgrade as you see fit. Out of the box stock any SCX10 is fantastic piece of kit. fish6634
How come the dead bolt is so much cheaper? What do the others have that this doesn't?I only ask because its my forst i may not want to spend too much incase rock crawling isnt for meThanks
Derka
You're generally paying for the licensed Body by the real manufacturer.Deadbolt isnt based on a real vehicle (looks a but like a Defender ish) thats why its cheaper
fish6634
the only thing putting me off with the vaterra stuff is the odd battery tray means buying more batteries

Derka
Yes, RC4WD do a 2-Speed Transmission for the SCX10.http://store.rc4wd.com/AX2-2-Speed-Transmission-for-Axial-Wraith-SCX10Honcho_p_2463.html
