  1. Fixed a few issues with the new to me Super Clod Buster, swapped the battery connector and had a play. Lots of fun! But must stop browsing UK Monsters, it's giving me expensive ideas.
  2. Finished the wiring, made and added window nets to hide the mess and added some fake exhausts. Filled front diff with some 10k (yes it has an open dif from an EXO .. this thing is weird). Then bashed it around garden and got it all covered in dust. Pretty happy now it's done, need to take it on some trails when not full of cold.
  3. Put it back together, still needs the wiring sorted, which is going to be a squeeze. Many many mistakes were made, but overall quite happy.
  4. Decided random crawler build has spend long enough on the bench (may have been a veery long time), scrapped some plans that were never going to work, bodged a solution for the battery, stripped it down and did some painting. Quite looking forward to getting it built and to actually drive it. Hopefully that won't take me another 5 years...
  5. Worked out the internal springs for the old Integy MSR10s are a perfect fit as coil overs for the alloy shocks you can pickup for WPL C24, and are much softer that the touring car spec springs you seem to get with them. They are tapered and the small end fits inside the spring perch doodad. Also found some soft tyres and greased the portal gears. Need to decide on paint next.
  6. Bought a WPL C24 kit maybe 2 years ago, built as a roller and stuck on shelf. Recently saw you can get some portals axles, so picked some up, an 1625 ESC and cheap servo, shoved a spare 2 speed gearbox and made some custom shock hoops for some coil overs I also had spare. After a couple of weekends I am quite pleased with the hi lift type result. However the shocks need much softer springs as it has no flex at all. Next job might be some paint.
  7. WPL 1/16 portal axles. Might need a rebuild and grease before they go on, and not sure if I want put on the C14 or C24 and if I need bigger wheels.
  8. Pointed a blowtorch at front end of the tuber crawler thing that's not progressing and removed all the brass tube I had added. Will try again, but work out where the battery goes first!!! The I loaded Quake again and the afternoon vanished.
  9. Dug out Outback Mini, WPL C14 and the 1/10 crawler "thing", piled up some scrap wood and spend an hour or two making ad hoc courses for them to attempt. It's been too long since I had any RC's out. Also had a look at the tuber chassis crawler that really needs finishing and started working out somewhere for a 3s to go in the front. Off to Wales late Aug so may give myself a deadline to get it running.
  10. Some clips jammed together of Outcast Mini, WPL C14 and then a 1/10 sportsman type thing. I think it shows why I like the (heavily modded) WPL over the Outcast Mini. Even on 1s the Outback is hard to control smoothly with the stock ESC and you end up having to just bounce over everything as it stalls out at anything less. Also the 1/10 is pointless unless you have somewhere good to run it.
  11. I have one of these built as a roller. Bought it as a kit as soon as I got the C14 RTR. Spent all my time on the C14 so far, but the C24 is due some attention. I really like that they made the front grill different and that you can remove the sleeper and it has a proper bed. Looks like they have a better gearbox / motor combo with the kit now now and black chassis rails! Loving the towbar. plans for a trailer?
  12. Attemped to fix a HX900 servo. Of all the plastic in it the part that broke was the brass shaft for the position sensing. I have added much super glue and left to dry. I also drove the rock crawler around the garden a bit to drain a lipo. I now have to tidy up the mud / rubble / bricks it threw everywhere.

A different kind of rally game.  Helped with the testing and enjoyed a lot... came out today

looks good that ghaz reminds me of that cell shaded game auto Modellista that was on dreamcast :)

  14. A Proxxon micromot 60 tool which I cut the plug off straight away and wired into an Amazon PWM motor speed controller. It now runs very nicely from the solar charged battery in the garage. Huuuuge upgrade on the battery powered Lidl tool i have been using. Much lighter, quieter and comfortable to hold.
  15. Fitted 16t pinion in TA02 Evoque trail truck thing. On 3S much better speed, but still pitching around all over the place.. then rememberered I never filled the Losi Miini Crawler shocks with oil. Some 60W each corner and now it behaves a lot better. I think time to strip down, clean, check bearings, loctite where required, paint some bare metal parts and take it for a proper drive.
  16. A pin vice, a small tap wrench (upto 6mm) and a jewellers hand vice. Results of a random evening on eBay finding all those things you occasionally need and don't have.
  17. The bit west of the Mill Pond at Emsworth always looked pretty decent too. Unfortunately I always seem to end up chasing the dog or the daughter and the crawler stays in the car 😐
  18. A £1.75 capacitor ... now our tower fan works. Of course now there is no more sun... 🤦‍♂️
  19. Another one, short as it was a bit wet to film. In this exciting video I learn how to add a title....
  20. Took front end off the Evoque custom chassis and put it back on the TA02 tub to work out how the steering originally was, then worked out and made a new piece to invert the mounting. Then spent rest of day trying to get a) wheels to clear arches b) tie rods to clear diff c) tie rods to clear skid plate Need to tidy bench....
  21. I have those axles (bought as an upgrade for my C14). I found I had to file the back of the brass pinion gear carefully so that it seated in far enough to get the mesh smooth. I also currently have the found dish things for the rear axle (drum brakes?) removed as they rub against the wheels when tightened onto the hexes. I can now see where lots of the "upgrade" parts for the C14 come from! I really like these little WPLs, so much variety and the bodies looks so good, full of character and little details.
  22. Unfortunately the county council schools team is being wound up by Jul '21. Not a "statutory service" so being left to commercial companies to support. Corporate job = a permenant post so had to go for it really, depite being a sideways move.
  23. 3rd line IT support just moved from Schools to County Council corporate last week... lots to learn.
  24. 3 day weekend and just me and the dog.  Fridge stocked with food and beer.  Result.
