2S LiPo showing 2.7v

Hi everybody,

Charged my batteries yesterday waiting for a break in the weather.

Gens Ace 2S 5300mah.

Fitted them to the Sabertooth today and the car was pulsing on the throttle.

After doing some checks, i stuck a voltage meter across the plug and one of the batteries

read 2.7v and the other read 3.9v.

Took the batteries to the charger and the low battery would not charge.

My question is; has the battery died on me, and what do i do next?

Thanks

ANDY

I have saved a couple of LiPo's like that. Put it on a Nimh charge for a minute or so and it should bring the voltage back up enough to do a LiPo charge. If it's an old pack, give it a salty water bath for a week outside and bin it

The batteries are fairly new.

Once the other pack comes off the charger I will give that a quick go..

Is it one of those things, that a battery can die, or could I have done something wrong?

NiMH charge at your own risk.

0.5a NiMH for a few minutes to tip it over 3v, then do a LiPo balance charge at 1a. (It will take hours, but it should slowly bring the low cell back up)

Keep an eye on it, if anything bothers you, stop charging and put it outside.

Regarding disposal, you need to discharge all cells before putting in a salt bath for safe disposal.

Ok chaps,

The battery has completed a balance cycle.

Both cells reading 4.20v.

left them standing disconnected for about 45 minutes to an hour, and the cells read 4.17v and 4,18v.

Your thoughts please ?

discharge batterys that are dead or knackered.

2lb of salt to a gallon of water and pop the batterys in.

this eats the cathode and anode tabs away and renders the battery

unable to be shorted

BUT !!!! and please take note..

there is still a charge in that pack, the only safe way to fully discharge is to break the

battery, ie puncture it right through, but this will still react with puffing and smoke, just not as aggressive

as a none discharged and bathed battery.

i have a couple 2s batterys 1300mah both show a dead second cell, one reads .9v the other reads 1.8v

the two other cells sit at 3.8v respective, but are stored inside my ammo bunker

UPDATE:

I have checked the voltages of the offending battery this morning.

And it read 4.16v and 4.19v.

The other battery is reading 4.20v and 4.20v.

Is the conclusion i have a dodgy cell within the battery?

I have a nano tech that does the same thing in my Merv. Still been using it for about 6 months and had no issues, but then again the Merv doesn't put a lot of stress on lipos.

I would use the word weak rather than dodgy.  If you have any concerns don't use it.  If it were me I'd run another pack with a high LVC and check again.

Effectively your pack is weak compared to the other one but it is likely still useable, just keep an eye on it ;)

I have tried to balance charged the weak battery before i went out, but it would not finish the cycle. It stayed at 4.19v forever.

I have now ran them them in the Sabertooth right down to the cut off, set at 3.8v.

Put it back on the charger, and it read 3.79v on both cells.

Hopefully it will reach to the end of the cycle.
