Noj
IMO, neither are folk who set up supposed RC shops, yet who sell nothing of quality, have inflated prices, no stock and even less amount of skill/expertise. We know they exist, as eventually the poor, frustrated 'customers' land here, where they get sorted out by, ahem, 'experts and professionals in their field' Whilst I don't wish hardship on small business owners, I have no sympathy with anyone who fails through ignorance/poor business sense or trading practice. Did someone mention an Acme Condor, or am I hearing the voices.....
wickedgeezer
sorry but i am just saying it as it is, the shop only ever old stuff no one wanted and the same display in the window since the 90's probably longer and when you asked them about certain models they never had a clue, i think he only liked planes and yes very over priced on everything. i only buy from model sport now as every where else i go seem to be rather ignorant and dont want to know unless your spending hundreds of pounds
shaun17
i know of a few "hobby" shops like that around here, planes seem to be all they know about yet stock a few car bits amd peices, but unless you are spending
MAZ
Mainly models (Hitchin rc shop) was more geared towards rc planes, boats and railway stuff. They had a few ansmann rc models in there too but it wasn't really for rc cars :/ And yeah the owner was a bit of a grump... I still miss models in motion that was based in Stevenage :(
wickedgeezer
maybe modelsport should expand to more shops around the country
Alex97
With the internet growth smaller shops are losing out due to them not being about to stock a wide range of products and that's what we want. My local hobby shop have a good range of products from planes to boat to cars but not the biggest selection of different brands so it really limits you. As with everything the little guy always loses out. I try to support local shops but some times it isn't possable. I can see more and more small model shops closing their doors over the next few years unless they do something about it. The one shop I really want to go to is radshapes, they are newish but have done something different with the track and mountain range in store. I hope more shops follow. Alex97
maybe modelsport should expand to more shops around the country it would cost them more than they would make. I would assume that their rent is cheap being in a small village or that they own the shop due to the length of time they have opparated from there. Most of there business comes from the internet so another shop wouldnt really benefit them.
(-:AD:-)
Ive been into sundon models in luton a couple of times, always helpfull.
Noj
MS have a very good rent deal, and a very mad and spacious building to operate from, the like of which they wouldn't get elsewhere Doesn't mean they aren't affected by other outlets, especially internet based ones. They remain a constant, offer good pricing and customer support, which in this hobby, is key to maintaining customer relations and continuing, profitable business.
YORKSHIRENEO
The guys at Model Sport really do know their stuff. Every time I have been in, if its been a query of mine they give me an honest answer, and when ive heard them talking to other customers, again they know their stuff. Guess im lucky living only 20 mins away!

Noj
It seems that flying/floating rc-ists are better catered for on the high street, than ground huggers... Thing is, if all you know is boats, planes etc, just stick to doing those! Gav (Kommandant of MS) does cars and trucks, his uncle owns another shop that does boats, planes etc, and does so very well. Common sense, innit
(-:AD:-)
there still is a model zone in centre mk(shopping centre) but they dont do much rc stuff and no/little spares. Try sundon models in luton if it aint to far away from you.
Alex97
I have 4 model shops with in a half hour drive from me, Hobbystores x2, DMS racing and hert rc models. I also have 4 car clubs within a 45min drive so between tracks and shops I'm covered!
Noj
As the Armenian Mafia, I'd be surprised if there was anything you didn't have covered....
Gashead
I know the very same thing you guys are talking about. I live in North wales and i am totally isolated as regards model shops. I would love to live within range of one. Ive been to Wheelspin in Cannock that is pretty big with loads of stock and would love to visit Modelsport. I know a bloke just like the OP is talking. Opened up a model shop (not much more than a lock up really} and had little idea. You either have to do it properly or not at all, its no good "playing" at running a model shop. He had no website just a page on facebook. I went in there back in May and bought a few bits and pieces, i wanted the guy to suceed but when i saw it in the flesh i realised it was pretty crap really. Think i spent about
