Everyone wants a bigger one

Hi all, I currently have a FTX Vantage Pro buggy, a brushless FTX Carnage, Lunchbox and an old Kyosho Lazer. They're all great but just thinking what to go for next. I fancy a super tough, super fast truggy. What the next leap for a Carnage / LB owner? It's just for bashing. Want to stay eletctric and wondering what 1/10 or 1/8. Is the Savage really as good as i hear? If so which one? Thanks in advance.

I bought a savage flux HP about 6 weeks ago and am still smiling (it is mental and am still only on 2s) and am looking at an addition to my garage looking at a hpi trophy truggy flux as well

doesn't the hp run 2x2s ie 4s?

Personally Ive found myself using a 1:8 buggy for the majority of my bashing as the repair bill seems to a lot less than any 1:8 or 1:10 truck/truggy Ive used (especially those listed in my sig) and there's not a lot the buggy can't do in comparison, plus they handle and jump much nicer too. but as said its budget depending, good luck :-)

Its all on budget mate ,you wanting secondhand little older and brushed ,or newer and brushed , often the way to get what you want is to convert a nitro to electric

I wouldn't recommend converting a savage, can end up costing more than buying a new one.

Usually does! Unless the Savage is up to spec beforehand with BP diffs, HD axles and drive cups, in which case, it won't be cheap. You would still have to swap the gearbox internals to bin the 2 speed setup as well as sorting the motor mount and battery boxes even on a good spec donor.

Personally....I would look at your budget first. Start by looking at what electrics are going to cost you. Absolute bare minimum, you are looking at

These 3 truggies are the most used on this forum for bashing, with the CRT parts are not as easy to get anymore but still can be sources from Taiwan I am led to believe.  I have an 8T 2.0 and its taken loads of abuse but the other 2 truggies I have listed will do the same thing.

Hyper ST

Losi 8ight T 2.0

Hong Nor CRT x2

I run an XTM XT2E, ditched the stock leccys for a HK150a ESC and a Leopard 2650kv 3674 motor. Fast on 4s, crazy on 6s. Got rid of the dogbones on the rear and put a set of front CVD's on the rear, 50k oil in centre, 7k front and rear diffs. Very reliable and solid when everything is tightened up properly. Turns on a dime and can handle the power just fine. Ive ditched the buggy shell and use a Proline Chevy Silverado bodyshell for a short course truck to give me the look I wanted.around

Have you looked at the Thunder Tiger MT4?

I'm considering something larger (and smaller) than my Savage XS, and this has been on my radar for a while. Would love a Savage Flux, but the price is just too high!

Thanks for this. Will take a look! Know what you mean about the Savage. Good but maybe a little too pricy for casual bashing. The wife would kill me if she knew I've actually got 4 machines not 3 in the garage let alone the price of the HPI!

I recently got a savage flux too. It is built like a tank and is bloody hilarious fun to drive. Really recommended. I am on 4s at moment and that is bonkers. Heaven knows how mental 6s is but I will find out soon when I acquire 2 3s turnigy nano techs.

I put a 6s in my mt4 last friday.....'king mental!!!! It would flip over then turn itself over the right way just by using the throttle. .....crazy wheelies.....stupid fast!!!....and I was easy with the throttle as well....much fun!!!!!..

I have a Carnage and recently got an TT MT4 G3. I don't like the Savage as all the reviews I have seen show it to be quite unstable and flips very easily.

The MT4 is a great car. It handles very well and seldom flips and can take most abuse. The weakest point is the servo. Mine has just broke and, in hindsight, I should have taken it out as soon as I got it and fitted it to the Carnage, and then got a Savox or equivalent for the Thunder Tiger.

You will need a 4s pack, or 2x 2s. If you get 2x good 2s then you can use them in your Carnage aswell.

A good 1/8th scale needs a much larger area to run than a 1/10th. I find that unless I take the MT4 out in a country park or wilderness, I rarely get it upto full speed, and then it needs to slow down before you run out of space.

I was thinking of getting a 1/8th Buggy which would be very fast, but not loads bigger than the Carnage. It really comes down to where you run it and what you want it to do.

If you go down TT route, just consider the parts availability situation - it was one of the reasons I ended up with the Savage. I thought that the MT4 was not 6s ready out the box? I thought TT state max 5s?
