  1. I've had a DHL parcel sitting at UK customs for 7 days and no info. I think I will have to pay duty as over £135, guess we have to thank Brexit for these delays.

The thing to note is that the service is unpredictable.  Sometimes you will get a package from China in a few days, other times it is many months, with no real explanation as to why this happens.  Just order, count your savings and be patient.

I had a FedEx parcel from Japan arrive within 3 days, this included them hitting me with a lovely customs bill.

I eventually received a VAT bill after 10 days for about £30 and the £12 fee. I queried with TRASHOP as I thought I read that VAT was included at point of sale, but they said no. The parts werent available in UK, so had few overseas choices.

yes you will be charged plus courier will add £12 handling fee

I would say that you should be charged VAT on your product and the shipping charge, which would be about 73 quid, but you may be lucky... I'd certainly budget for it though, if it sails through unnoticed than that's just a bonus.  Isn't RM charge / fee £8?

  5. Anyone use a Nvidia Shield for streaming HDR content, would you recommend it?

Thanks, a tad further north in Yorkshire. Just would like some real end user experience when streaming 4K/HDR contents both from internet and local hard drive sources. My HTPC and AV receiver are old and cant handle 4K/HDR sources, 1080p is fine, but now have a LG OLED TV so would like use its HDR capabilities.  Everyone says online that the Shield is best and HTPC is dead. I would have to get a new cpu/mobo and AV receiver so the Shield seems a better value option, if it works.  I dont want a Firestick 4K.

Got a link to a 4k clip I can stream and I will try it on the K1 and let you know what its like, might be able to film the screen using my mobile to give you an idea.

  6. After 14 years I've retired my Panasonic plasma TV for a LG OLED C1.  It's a quantum leap in picture quality, even with standard HD sources. and then UHD is  amazing. You do need to adjust the picture settings as they are too blue out of the box but plenty of online info to help .  Blacks are even blacker which was why I went for plasma and not LCD back in the day.  Wonder what will be around in another 14 years time to beat OLEDs.

I had a similar experience my Panasonic plasma died (I'd guess it to be the same age as yours) and it was an amazing set, to the point I thought I was going to be disappointed. I bought a 58" Panasonic 902B (ex top of the range LED, before the great OLED invasion) and my god, it kicks sand in the face of the plasma ten times over.

We're on an LCD that's approximately twelve years old, doesn't even do 1080p, it peaks at 1080i. It'll do for a bit longer.

  7. Anyone used a forwarding agent? I want a part from USA but they wont ship to UK, so thought a forwarding agent like stackry could be an option. Part is 30USD.

Just need to factor in adding 20% for VAT on total incl shipping and the £8 admin fee for UK handler. Will have another look and see if it worth it, exchange rate was pretty good last year.

  9. Whats the smallest receiver box? Trying to finish mid tank mod and want to fit receiver in a small gap under the tank.

  10. Ordered BT fibre broadband which is on offer at 29.99pm with 100 reward card and 80 quidco. Nice savings (well rc funds) and faster speed.

      Fly In My Soup

It's the standard force v36 , supplied with the Carson specters

Force later resigned this engine as the r36 and CNC range as the v36 apparently had cooling issues due to the cooling head material thickness being too thin, making it inefficient at wicking heat away from the crank case.

    2. locky

      locky

Thanks, so does that mean the r36 is the same as the v36 apart from the cooling head? Which is now improved on the r36.

"If he wants to prove he's a man, we should do it out of the car face-to-face" yeah saw that, proper made me laugh. Love to see that one in the car park behind the pits. Hair pulling at dusk! I still maintain Vet should have just admitted he was too close and misjudged it. This isn't an insurance claim, just admit you got it wrong.

It could have broken the front suspension of either car - water under the bridge now, bring on Austria.

I was almost feeling sad one of the remaining records was going to fall this season - let '68' happen at Silverstone - meaning Lewis must get pole from under Seb's nose - shame!!

Took 12 days to arrive. Gave it to my 14 year old who says it's 'fine' and so will never see it again. Performance is good. Build quality satisfactory for price point. It is big if coming from 'normal' size so depends what you want to use it for. Teenagers dont talk so suits him.

  16. Do they make some bricks 10x as hard on purpose? A 5 min job to out up extra shelves in man cave takes 3 times as long, half bricks are done in quickly in seconds, rest take ages. Would a SDS drill be better?

      johninderby

So much easier with an SDS drill. Also I use Fischer plugs as they hold so much better than the typical plugs sold in most DIY places.

    3. locky

      locky

Yep Fischer plugs are the best and already got. Learnt that lesson. Thinks it's time for a new drill, as fed up with normal. Go for cheap SDS or well known brand? Wont be used regularly. Dont fancy battery so mains will do.

    4. johninderby

      johninderby

This brand from Screwfix isn't half bad and pretty cheap.

I bought a Ryobi SDS cordless as I already had batteries and charger. That's the big problem with cordless the batteries and charger can be really ££££ if you have to buy them just for one tool.

  17. Any electroncs experts? Old Philips AK601 CD player wih drawer that will bot open, but will auto close after manually pulled out. Fitted new belt and drive gear but cd player still not opening, will close after manually pulling open and cd will play. Motor is still operating trying to close. Only one limit switch which is fully pressed either when fully open or closed. Tested limit switch with meter and seems to operate as normal.

      QRC

The bottom line is cost, the more you spend 'should' get you a product which records quality data, an app which is well written and the user can understand it. Loads of reviews out there on YT and in the press.

I like the Garmin Virofit for many reasons, first and foremost it's waterproof, how Fitbit thought it was okay to produce a product which was not is beyond me  . The batteries last for roughly six months, cheap to replace, so no recharging issues etc.....  :D
