  1. I'm not sure if this counts, but I'm proud of it anyway to
  2. Built up the Orlandoo jeep at long last. Just needed a little inspiration 😀.
  3. I hate the type of for sale listing where you find the car you want at a competitive price. Read the description and all looks great. Then right at the end the seller puts "car not really £XXX just put low price to get attention".

      Simple solution ..... REPORT SELLER.

Pretty sure that breaks a whole load of selling rules

Real 1:1 scale car or R/c car?

Seen it done on Pistonheads before with real cars and it does get you to look. If it looks to good to be true as they say it usually is.

the there financial report for last year makes interesting reading...

Just looked on Company Check  their current liabilities are more than their assets which doesn't bould well but perhaps Ripmax will step in with investments or negotiate terms with  HPI?

Never been an HPI fan but I do like the Venture and the builders kit but they were just too late to capitalise on the scale market a few years back.

They remind me of MG Rover (the cars). They just kept bringing out the same model again (200/25/ZS etc) and again with a minor difference, and were shocked when they went

  5. Quick outing a few weekends back.
  6. Just had a letter off the DVLA saying I need to tax my car immediately or I risk being fined £1000 and having the vehicle towed away. Except my car is taxed and and isn't due to be taxed again until January 2020. Try to ring the number on the letter and get through to an automated system that offers pretty much no help at all. What should my next move be here?

Check on line and see if it is shown there as taxed?

I have had letters off the DVLA fining me for failing to transfer a vehicle when sold...despite having sent off all the paperwork and it getting lost at DVLA. It was 'my fault for not chasing it'. No reminders were sent....just a nasty letter.

They have changed as lot of laws now, and it's all designed at making it easier to enforce non tax payers, and to maximise revenue for the government.

I always pay my bike tax online from the reminder letter with the code. By credit card. That way I have proof of payment. You also need to check the vehicle details are correct as a tiny typo could result in you taxing someone elses car.....

The problem you have nowadays is actually PROVING you have taxed your vehicle. I presume you have typed your reg into DVLA tax check..and it shows as taxed?

Nowadays...it's illegal to have an untaxed vehicle, not just to use it on the road. So it's tax or SORN or get fined. I am in the process of restoring a classic bike imported from the US, and have deliberately held off registering it in the UK as it may take a yewar or two to finish and I would just have to SORN it every year until it's ready to ride.

      Word of warning......

They ask you twice... First a reminder.... Then a reminder with a warning attached.

Never used to be an issue.....

Except as nitroholic said... They changed the law last year..... .. So if you don't reply within a month of the 'final' reminder.... They pass your name to a private clamping company.... They visit your address to clamp your car....

So they basically farmed out the enforcement through privatisation....

I've seen a fair few clamped.. Even in rural devon

  7. Just found a model of my car, inside of my car. I was fitting some new switches and had the centre console down. Saw a little bumper sticking out part of the wiring loom way back behind the bulkhead, reached in and pulled out a whole car lol. God knows how long it's been there. Pretty scuffed up!

  10. Is any company currently making/selling decent Escort mk1/2 shells in 1/10 scale? The rally legends are rare and have become a little too expensive when they do come up.

  13. Took delivery of some polish and proceeded to resume restoration of the texas wild Baja after about a year. Not tried this stuff before but seems to bring out quite a nice shine.
  14. Anyone recommend a good way to preserve metal parts from tarnishing? Polishing up an old RC car for shelf purposes. Not sure what the metal is but it seems similar to sand scorcher metal.

I've ordered myself some wax which I'll try first. Hoping it should protect after application. If not another polish and then lacquer I think!

  15. Anyone here got an anycubic photon 3d printer by any chance?

  16. Those rear arches look perfect to accept a solid axle. Looks like that whole chassis would work well for an escort build.
  17. Just took a Triumph spitfire for a test drive. It was only after I tried a 3 point turn did we realise reverse wouldn't engage. Sat on a junction for about 40 minutes trying to push it back far enough to drive off ?

I swore in 1974, when I got rid of my 2 year old Triumph 2.5PI which still had 20 warranty faults outstanding (they'd fixed a lot, but still 20 ouitstanding!) that I would never have another British built car, and I haven't (had a few british badged but always ensured they were built elsewhere) and never will.

One of British Leyland's finest :)

The early ones were better, but they still were not built well. More importantly...it's what has happened to it in the last 40 years, and whether it's been looked after, maintained well or properly rebuilt. Too many shiny paintjobs on shoddy mechanicals out there.

Only way to be sure is to buy a rough one and do the work yourself.

  18. Long shot I know. But has anyone got experience removing rubber bumpers off an MGB roadster and replacing them with a Sebring style valance?

Me and a Freind removed the plastic/rubber bumpers last year but we just replaced with the chrome variants

7500 2s graphene's have my eye at £32 ea - though that 4s looks great - you have a link?  HK site, despite the 'upgrade' is still mostly a piece of poop.

  20. Does any manufacturer make an f1/single seater style RC with proper independent suspension? Something like the Serpent f180 but not discontinued a long time ago.

Yeah I thought that may be the case, shame because it looked really cool. I wanted something that doesn't need to be run on a glass surface to be drivable.

  22. Hi all, I bought a brand new set of Arrowmax tools a couple of weeks ago as a birthday present for myself. I finally got round to building up my new car today, and when assembling the CVD's, the very first time I used the 1.5mm tool, the head snapped clean off. I have not once ever managed this before with any tools. I'm certain I wasn't putting any excess strength into tightening the grub screw, usually the screw head would strip long before putting the tool in any danger. Has anyone had any experience with arrowmax before? Is this usual quality or did I just get a dud?
  23. Anyone know of an alternative to the core RC pit box? It's pretty much exactly what I need, but £85 seems a little steep for what you get.

Keep a eye out on eBay mate, occasionally pop up on there but some are very used.

thing is though mate, it should last a good few years though, makes it a worthwhile investment, I wouldn’t be without mine now.

Have a look at the plano boxes on Amazon/ebay. Not the cheapest either but a huge range, and if coming from the US they often include the fees.
