The HPI Savage is back, again... again?

Bit slow with the news on this one which probably shows how eagerly excited we are on the new HPI Savage...

They have been slowly revealing it on social media, with the latest being this:

No other info yet but looks like TVPs are still a "feature".

I like the styling. It's butch as all hell, which it should be! Curved lines are for "sexy" cars... a Savage should have the subtlety of a sledgehammer!

EDIT: The newer photos showed up after I posted: Unfortunately, the colours and the "graffiti" paint look naff! Gunmetal, please!

I see it has large wheel nuts; has that fixed one of the weak points from before? Some folks on this forum were complaining about them.

I REALLY want HPI to succeed. Here's hoping they've built a Savage for 2021 and not 2001. HPI need to start bringing it to the likes of Arrma & Traxarse.

yeh hope it is decent and priced competativly, i love dads old savvy 3.5 i think it was that currently has a trophy 4.6 engine in it, i would love a leccy savage to add to the fleet 🙂

the 4.6 cc motor fitted to both was a rebadged Force unit. exactly the same motor

It came with the 3.5 (21) engine and later on I had a spare 4.6 (28) engine from the Trophy truggy which i fitted to the Savvy and yeh they are rebadged force engines

My first Savvy was a 3.5 .... fitted with a very well used .21

Wasn't that powerful, but it went OK for a while. The gearbox needed replacing after the gearchange adjuster came apart. The spring and ball bearingh ended up in the gearbox...jammed bewtween 2 gears. Car stopped like it had hit a brick wall !!!

A reasonable part of that truck is still in my Twin motor Savage

Glad to see they kept the nitro version although it would have been nice to have the octane style tank in the front.

Don’t get the hype still has more than half its previous issues and that body reminds me of a cereal box 🤮

If HPI wanna make a come back there going to have to do a lot better than this hash up

It does say it has “All new capturee hingepins” so

maybe I was wrong about the bumper mounts twisting

Jesus! I originally said it was going to be expensive, but Im shocked at that price!

    Same.
Ridiculous considering the other RC's available in that price range with much better grade materials, layouts etc.

Maybe they're just hoping the name will sell it (HPI Savage) as there will always be the brand & model specific fans.

Looks like all they've done is tarted it up with a lot of new plastic pieces (which look ugly to me)

As people have said, reminds me of car engine bays where all the goodies are covered with a nasty plastic top.

I'd never spend that much on a new RC anyway even if its the dogs danglies, but gota say it seems way over priced.

    More than a Traxxas Maxx.

In all fairness. It is bigger.

If it had been a redesigned Savage, with thicker TVPs, threaded alloy big bores, captured/braced hingepins, and “fixed” rear hubs, it wouldnt have been “badly” priced. Id also like an improved slipper clutch, but it does mention that. HPI know all this, this couldve been epic, but I suspect they havent got the funds to do this properly, and it shows….

Combine that with the fact HPI arent who they once were, Id not have confidence in buying this.

Use what HPI Savage parts theyve got, re badge it as a Maverick, price it like a Corally and this wouldve worked I think
