  1. All done. Just need to charge up the new battery packs and head out for a spin. I still haven’t decided if it’s going to get any stickers but figure I can always do that later on if needed. Might try and stick the headlight and radiator grille ones on to start.

  2. and you think...hmmm...that might work. Was tidying my stock of Hyper parts up, seperating and putting together complete assemblies just to see what I had after I got everything unpacked following a recent house move. Shocks, wheels, a load of parts... I also had my brushless converted one out on the table as I was thinking about a rework of it's component layout. Was looking at the bits all together, comparing the steering setups..... when I also found this....which I had put together a little while back. It's made up from 2 spare Hyper 7 diff cases, with the mating surfaces cleaned up, and a slice out for a shock tower. Basically...it's a pass through diff for a 6 wheel drive setup. I plan to make a tube to replace the driveshaft cups to link the pinions together... Now I want to build this.... I mean...everyone should have a 6 weheel drive 4 wheel steer buggy.... right?

  3. I broke it with 6S 😁 Okay that's unfair, inspecting it, it seems the wrong gear was used as it's 15T as opposed to 16T as per the losi manual. Given the age (10+ years old) and then a sudden blast of 4S and then 6S I'm not surprised. Learnt a lot by stripping it down. Can't wait to get this running again.

  5. You and @Yrkoon should go into business together! bet it will do the job just fine, and if it only cost a few drill bits and your sense of smell it was well worth it.

  7. Finally got a proper storage container for my lipos. 3/4 of rubber seal removed. Also, looks pretty cool turning up with an ammo box when out and about! 😎

  8. Replaced the battered supra shell with a shiny new one. Couldn’t find a reasonably priced Tamiya shell so went HPI. I’m sort of wishing I wasn’t such a cheap skate now, as the detail isn’t as good as Tamiya, but if you squint it’s okay. I’m pleased with how the wheels turned out having sprayed them gold.

  10. New pinion, tyres and wheels for my SCX10 III the wheels are Amazon specials, but seem good so far. I’m doubly pleased as they’re making the body more to my liking. Might have to use the sticker set this weekend to finish it off.

  16. Pfft, this is her doing, buy a MT she said. Buy a cute truck she said, we have both now. I was supposed to be downsizing the fleet so I can focus on big 8 and her Hyper 7. On the subject of her Hyper, it's running lovely with TQ shocks all round, geometry done properly etc. It's definitely closed the huge gap I experienced between the 8ight and H7. There's still a gap with that said, but it's amazing how versatile these Hypers are.

  18. Found some huge washers, 55mm, thought I’d make some redneck diff guards 😁 All I can smell is burning stainless (and that was with good drill bits and oil!) I hope they don’t cause more damage than their worth…

  19. Very nice! How could you invest that much money in something only to decide in ten minutes it’s not for you?! Their loss, your gain!

  21. There's a few outstanding problems I'm waiting on parts to fix now. Various bolts are rattling loose during running. It lost an exhaust manifold screw (M2.6x25, such an awkward size) and the engine mount bolts keep coming loose resulting in disengaging from the pinion. It also managed to lose the air filter foam (twice) so a new air filter is on order.

  22. The shocks were pretty non functional - this model has oil filled rather than the earlier model's friction shocks. They got a rebuild with 30wt shock oil. Also upgraded the wheel metal bushes to ABEC5 bearings by simply measuring the bushing and ordering a suitable bearing (5x10x4).

  23. The fuel system was giving me some grief - serious air bubbles from the tank and difficulty in fine tuning. This was remedied by some longer fuel lines from the exhaust (more stable tank pressure) and longer run from the tank to the carb. Pictured are the new lengths. While there I added some fuel hose clamps to isolate the fuel tank between runs, hopefully saving the need to drain the tank as often.

  24. Step 2 - shell modifications. Used a deep socket to mark out the location of the glow plug on the roof to drill a glow starter hole. Windscreen got a hole drilled for refueling and cooling. Passenger window got a hole drilled, which allows me to poke the pullstart handle out upon fitting the shell. Holes were a mix of metal step drill and metal holesaws. Voila, the car can now be started and refueled with the shell on.

  25. I managed a few small test drives but had some teething problems. It's now running and tuned as well as a novice can do it. One thing I did find annoying was being unable to start and refuel the car with the body on which led to be driving with the body off a lot. Time to remedy that. Step 1 - rotate the pull starter 90 degrees to face the 'passenger' side of the car. Small amount of filing required to properly rotate the backplate to support this.

  26. Ready for test drive! Except the steering arms were locked solid, steering servo didn't work at all and the throttle servo barely had enough juice to move the throttle body. Steering freed and oiled, and both servos uprated to Etronix 9kg metal geared items which work a treat.

  27. With a test drive in sight, I knocked up some alloy brackets to mount the universal fuel tank as I was too cheap to buy the proper Kyosho one that would have just bolted in. Lower cable ties now replaced with correct countersunk screws through the chassis.

  28. Managed to get it running with a temporary fuel tank and 15% fuel. Happy days. So next up would be radio gear and receiver battery to test drive it - for this I went for Flysky GT3C and 6v NiMH 1600mah receiver pack with Overlander charger. The receiver size difference made me chuckle.

  29. First task, striaghten the exhaust pipe so it fitted out the shell. Upon trying to start it noticed the clutch wasn't working (stuck on) - a strip, clean, rebuld and greased bearing sorted that with no extra parts needed.

  32. So this happened today 😁 It's amazing what you do with some lolly sticks and superglue. I have also loaded the boxes with some fine lead shot to give them a bit of weight 😉 Both safely stowed in the back of my GMade Sawback, now I'm just waiting for Modelsport to deliver an elastic cargo net 😎

  34. If they are anything like the original 2.2 night crawlers then it'll have decent performance for "crawling" with the worm gears and relatively low profile axles. I guess most folk want more of a "scale" truck look with a ladder chassis... That said, some of those have some pretty poor bodies where the Losi I personally think looks brilliant 👍

  35. well..... it could certainly be an interesting project. Currently looking at how I could re-arrange the internal components to shorten the back part of the chassis. Going to make a mockup chassis and see how it would all fit. Not a clue what I would do with regard to a bodyshell, but I have a few ideas to play around with. Will see what's what.... but if I can get the thing shorter so it's no more than 30mm longer than a stock Hyper....it should go well too. I also figured if I mount the steering arms in 2 different points on the servo arm...I could get proportionally different steering...with the outer wheels moving further than the second pair. This will make it turn more than crab I am putting far too much thought into this 🙂

  39. To be fair the kit D4 shocks are okay, I used them for years on mine, but I now run TR56 or alloy D4 upgrade shocks on all my drift chassis, gives much more responsiveness in my opinion 👍

Whilst I'm waiting for the aluminium front end to come in the post ( going for a bash next week) thought I'd start getting bits spruced up , these paints I already had In the shed , not everyone's taste but at least it stands out fully stripped down to paint and a good coat of laquer afterwards , may not last two mins after a few sessions but ah well , I'll get the rears done tomorrow providing the weathers good (UK ) 👍

  44. Thought I'd share some pictures of my TRX-4. Three shells one body saves on maintenance while enjoying 3 very different performing vehicles. The truck is running a Hobbywing Axe system, Savox 35kg steering servo and PowerHD micros for the locking diffs and transmission. It runs brass portals and has a remote Warn winch. I adore the Defender shell but it weighs in at over 1 kilo. It's my go to trailing shell for sure. For something more capable I turn to the F150 but can only run limited tyre sizes. The Rubicon weighs in at just over 200g and has full clearance for my wheel/tyre sets. I only painted it yesterday so have yet to try it, I'm pretty sure it will be awesome.
