  4. A long time ago in a galaxy far away.... ok, my scale hobby began few years ago. after a few runs, I liked what folks were running and I saw a delightful orange D90 and I was hooked...... @Gaz! started it miss Did a couple of D90s but always wanted a range Rover and 2016 got a CC01 with a frewer lexan shell. Ok but not 'scale' few months ago I pre ordered the JS Scale classic shell and Santa dropped a pre Xmas parcel off this week... Duly started putting it together, nice kit and lots of small nuts and bolts and little hinges. Instructions are bit vague, windows fitted and no mention of painting.. common sense Its quite large, 313mm wheelbase and going on my Ascender chassis Got it on chassis and doesn't sit well, mounts are for SCX10 or TRX4. Bit of drilling and dremelling and its on! Wheels are cheap plastic landy type with SDI scale doctor tyres.. think it looks about right?? Thanks for looking and hope to get more time over Xmas break

  5. It's a rebadged Thunder Tiger Hilux - not sure on the ownership setup of the two companies - they used to be linked iirc which makes sense. The Hilux version was going for £150 new on eBay before Xmas. Not a bad little thing, shocks are allegedly a little pogo'y.

  7. So, 40 years late I embark on my first ever RC build. Having spent Christmas Evening helping the good lady set up her Brother Scan 'n Cut card making machine (the pay off for my Tamiya) and Bratticus Prime sort out his new drone Boxing Day belongs to me. I wanted a Tamiya as a kid, the 80's Porsche 959 being my dream, but it never happened. Better late than never, I am scratching the itch with a Plasma Edge II 4WD buggy built on Tamiya's TT02B chassis. The build is stock, out of the box with the exception of replacing the supplied bushings with metal bearings. I will be taking mental notes as I build it as to what upgrades I might like to add in the future, or from scratch with any future builds. Step 1 is the drive train: Prop shaft, differentials, pinion gear and motor. First impression if the kit is that the instructions are beautifully written and very clear but the parts bags could be better marked. The smaller bags have stickers but the larger plastic parts don't and for a blind old bat like me it's difficult to read the label on the stalks without taking them out of the not quite clear bags. At least the first parts the prop shaft, the end cups are easy to spot and on first inspection feel good. They look well made and the plastic cups are decent high density plastic. There shouldn't be any wear issues here given the flat, blade ends of the plastic drive shaft though I wouldn't trust them with a pin ended shaft. I can't see me adding the propellor shaft to my list of upgrades. For what I need the supplied plastic shaft seems fine and I was impressed by how little torque twist it allows. One thing I might think about upgrading though is the pinion gear. It sits on a 2mm pin slotted through the cup shaft. I can see that pin working loose in the plastic gear with use, and there are some very sexy looking aluminium hopups available. You can't have too much sexy! The other thing I will upgrade, and make stock for future buils is the screws. The supplied 3 x 10mm which hold most things together are not the best quality I have ever seen. The differential gears fit together nicely. I had meant to order more anti wear grease before Christmas but forgot so I am limited to the tiny blob Tamiya supply. The instructions say apply with a pointed object so I am using a bamboo skewer which is quite fiddly. A small stiff brush would be a lot quicker but would use more grease which I don't have. The motor fits into the motor mount nicely with a washer between, and more AWG which is not doing anything in terms of moving parts, so I'm guessing is helping against ingress. On goes the pinion gear cover and the drive train is complete. Cold Turkey for me mow, then onto the Suspension.

  10. Going into safe mode,Yes, Not connecting when it once did,Possibly, But you need to start somewhere. Lipo is the best way to go, But then I assume your be talking about a new charger as well, But I still think that's the better way to go as NI-MH packs are still pretty dear for what you get and the fact it's old dying technology.

  11. Well, for info, I managed to get it fixed. Somehow CH2 polarity was reversed so I had to enter the set up menu, which seems complicated at first but isn't, and then swapped it round, and it all works a treat now! Looks amazing, I will definitely order some more lights for it. I also need to upgrade my radio system already. 4 CH means I can operate EITHER the gear system OR the light system. I guess I really need 6 CH. Oh well! Thanks for the help AJ, would love to see some more progress on your build.

  12. Yeah I always charge outside and in an ammo crate vented but with lid closed..? Have watched far too many youtube vids of burning/exploding lipo's...

  13. Start by getting the trims back to neutral, particularly the throttle trim. Then try again. If the battery has sat for that length of time, it's toast, time for a new one.

  20. Body mocked up, waiting for delivery of putty and decent sandpaper before getting the paint on. Size wise I'm quite happy with how it looks but need some attention at the rear end, find a nice bumper and also side rock sliders. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk

  23. Builder's kit arrived today! Don't have too much of a plan for it yet, and it'll be relatively slow progress since work's busy over Christmas and the wife's got me decorating the house on my days off! Initially i'm thinking a Holmes 35t, Quicrun 1080 on 3s. Also, SSD wheels and prob some Pitbull tyres. I've got a Power HD 20kg waterproof servo sitting here from my old Yeti so I'll prob drop that in. I'm not even going to bother building the kit shocks, i'll swap them straight out for either Incision, ProLine or TRX4 shocks apparently work well. Shell wise, i'm thinking modern - got a bit of a soft spot for yank tanks so prob go for a Raptor pickup truck, maybe in a military-style matt olive drab. I'll keep you updated!

  24. Now added a spot light bar to the mauler pickup, helps break up the yellow paint a bit more, starting to look right now, only thing is i had to cut the futaba plug of and just wire it +_ in to a battery box and now it just does a random pattern of flashing led

  26. A quick bearing refit throughout both axles freshens up the steering and diffs, didn't give em a full regrease as its only had 30-40 dry minutes or so since it was built, but despite my best attempts at saving all the previously used ballraces it now needs em. Over the months I've slowly stripped it down to a fairly minimal build, the Castle BEC lives next to a DSMR Rx in the radio box and I think there's just enough room to get at least one of my switches in for the lighting. I'm loving the new Dingo shell,it's just I can tell how much it weighs handling it on the bench....I think I'm really gonna have to go to a more popular wheelbase eventually so I can run a lighter lexan body to really get the best running from this set up. Hopefully get out with this on Sunday [emoji41] Sent from my BLN-L21 using Tapatalk

  27. Finished chopping body, so quick undercoat in black (going for v dark grey top coat) and bit of wood varnish for the flat bed. Need to cut a small piece for the gap where the rear door was, but happy with the final look. Especially as there was no real plan made!

  28. It was just too hot..... Diffs are sound as is box, rear wb8 drive shaft has goosed plastics and transmission has stripped threads X2. The plastic balls on the upper links onto the diffs were badly worn but the rear has worn out because the driveshaft is not sliding, steel balls have got it working but could do with a fresh upper link mount on the back. Diffs were almost totally dry but look to have done nothing and have rebuilt nicely. Well chuffed with it,time to get rid of the electrics and get some bits ordered.
