  3. Well I loved it. I'm biased because my girlfriend was (is) drumming in it. Here she is earlier broadcasting to 4 billion people........ If you think it was ****, you need your head checking. It is an opening ceremony - it has to appeal to as many people as possible. With that in mind, they did an incredible job. And even if you don't think so, spare a thought for the 6 thousand volunteers like my lovely lady who have had up to 28 rehearsals over the past 4 months in their spare time. She has been to bed past 2.30 am twice this week while still having to work......

  5. Basically electric motors work by alternating magnet fields. In a brushed motor this is done by the commutator and the brushes, in a brushless motor its done by the esc. Now to correctly time when to switch the field, the esc really needs to know exactly were the rotor is currently - that is where the sensor comes in. It accurately locates the position of the rotor and feeds this information to the esc. Sensorless systems don't bother with this - the esc basically just guesses. If everything is going properly that is fine, but if its not this can cause incorrect switches which create the dreaded 'cogging' effect. This is only really significant at low speeds or pulling heavy loads. Knowing where the rotor is means that sensored systems are smoother and have more low end torque. In theory however a sensorless system will be slightly more efficient and offer a slightly higher top speed. The latter can be offset by the fact the some sensored systems can run a 'timing boost' program which effectively over-revs the motor at the top end making it quicker still. Sensor cables are rather fragile and can't be easily waterproofed. Waterproofed sensored esc's like the LRP AI stop working when wet, they just aren't damaged. In practical terms: Sensored is best for racing, crawling and anything that needs precision. Sensorless is best for general bashing about.

  12. Why would you walk to the phone, you have it in your hand? You would phone to get immediate replies to any supplemental questions, "oh you don't have ... what about a... ?". It would also ensure you were communicating with them not just firing messages of into the ether. Still as you say it is your choice, but there are lots of reasons to 'phone.

  20. Very smokey fuel, try tuning through performance and sound as opposed to smoke. I've ran an engine extremelly lean on that fuel and still had loads of smoke. It's down to the type of oil they use.

  28. Your not wrong,Temps are only a guide to make sure a engine is not over heating. I allways tune buy proformance and sound. But 140f is to cold it's just as bad for a engine to be to cold as it is to be to hot. Both my rb engines scream and are a lot quicker than that that's why I said to lean out to gain proformance and get higher engine temps. Plus with this hot weather we have at the mo you have to run leaner to not richer how a lot of people seem to think.

  30. I don't own a nitro so maybe obvious question, but why are you tuning it to a temperature rather how the engine behaves? Surely if it running well then there isn't a problem.
    1 point
  31. Just a thought.... Make sure your temperature gauge isn't reading in Celsius...... 220F is 105C ....so if your gauge is set to 'C' it would be hard work to get 200C and very bad for your engine. Having the shell off may lower the temps by up to 10' sometimes, but not to the extent you are looking at. I have a car that takes a tank or so to get up to temps on a correct tune....but you should see the temps rise as you run it. Runs horrid until it does....so I either put up with that or lean it off a bit and then reset the tune once it's got hot enough. Try leaning out hte HSN as mentioned above, and check what it is doing to your temperatures with each small adjustment. Tweak..run a couple of minutes...check...and repeat.
