Affordable MOA axles?

I’ve an idea for a project I want to build, but didn’t want to spend a massive amount on it, looking in eBay I can only find RC4WD Bully axles for like 200 quid each, are there any more affordable options out there or is it too specialist a part?

Hello mate. A tricky request as you have found out from looking!..

I did see an Moa rtr offered from one of the cheaper manufacturers... Can't remember who, want to say FTX or one of the other smaller Chinese based lot...

Just googled it, FTX Ravine... I have no idea what it is like, I suspect if you did any pro comp crawling it wouldn't last awfully long but for a play it's probably well worth it for £100 notes....

It's that or keep looking for some second hand axles to turn up - facebook sometimes throws some up...

What is the project? Will a chassis mounted motor not work for it - you could use a DIG to the rear quite easily certainly...

I’ll be honest I don’t know a huge amount about DIG and I’d like to know more!

The reason I was after MOA was to drag the CG down as the vehicle is likely to be top heavy - a buddy has a Ravine and the running gear is too lightweight to hold up to the weight I want it to move - financially it’s looking like I may need to be thinking more conventionally as I certainly can’t run to RC4WD Bully axle money.

What is available in terms of aftermarket DIG units?  I know what it does but not what it means?  I’ve even recently seen a Holmes Hobbies video where John described overdrive as DIG which left me even more confused...

The Americans are full of 💩. Don't believe everything they say!!

Basically DIG stands for DRIVELINE DISCONNECT ( No idea why it is not DLD!).

The dig unit will generally sit at the rear of your transmission and it generally has control to disconnect and lock your rear axle so you can then hop the front round on tighter turns. Or where the comp folks use it is to suck down the chassis as the front end drives forward which then helps on steep climbs and off camber sections - this obviously requires a certain suspension set up to work well. Some Digs can also disconnect the rear and leave it free wheeling, I personally don't find this useful but it can help on steep climbs if your suspension is set up relatively high or uses a lot of anti squat, essentially one would feather it at the point the rig wants to rotate. It could also potentially be useful on off camber sections I guess ( Do not have experience).

If you can explain to me what type of rig you are thinking of and the purpose it will have then I could perhaps better advise 👍

Back to the 'muricans, John may have been wittering on about a DIG effect when one runs significant overdrive in the front axle over the rear. This overdrive can both crab the front end for tighter turns, and also be permanently trying to lengthen the lower links ( and if the links are set right this will suck the chassis down, but it also keeps a permanent grip tension between the front and rear wheels)...

All fun stuff!!

Hmmm...

Certainly interesting! 🤣

You'd certainly benefit from some weighting to help the centre of gravity 🙂

Id say get a nice set of ssd pro44 axles.  With some brass parts to help keep wight low down. Short shocks.   You can get that to have a nice Low cog.  Just need the right parts. Don't out wight in the wheels.  Get some brass hubs. And add lead to the belly if needed. Could make that an amazing build with the right parts.  Feel free to pm me for help with anything. Always happy to chat rc.
