And with a simple velcro battery strap, the truck is complete!

MAAAAAAANY hours of work later, she is ready! :D

Congratulations to @Jack Reacher for correctly guessing the Axial Chevrolet C10 body shell! Proper Sherlock Holmes work, there.

Believe me when I say, my crappy old phone camera COMPLETELY ruins the colour! In the flesh, the Tamiya copper is much richer, more vibrant and is truly beautiful. If the sun decides to actually come out today, I might try and get some natural light photos.

However, as stunning as the colours are (copper, backed with white, backed with silver, backed with black), the job I did is terrible! :xd:

There are splatters, there are runs, there are particles, dust and hairs trapped under the paint, there are some truly dodgy mask lines.

BUT, as much as it's a bit rough up-close, it looks beautiful from a few steps back and should look amazing out on the trail. The colours are just that good! Overall, the aesthetic is exactly what i was going for.

Managed to get some warm white LEDs for the front, and some red -but with milky glass- LEDs for the rear.

The photo doesn't show it, but the fronts really nail that "vintage, yellowish headlamp" look (my phone camera has made the font lights look colder and more modern than they actually look like) and the rears also look spot-on, lacking that crisp, sharp light, that modern lamps have.

:good:

I am by nature a “few steps back” kind of bloke and that looks freaking amazing 👍

Looking even better in daylight

Are you going to add roof bar/spotlamps to it ?

I wasn't planning to, but there's no harm, in keeping an eye out!

I say its done, no need to add or do any other stuff

Yeah, that's where I'm at. If I was to add stuff, it would have to really suit it!

Nice build.
I’m in the middle of building the same HPI kit with my 3 yo son. But, being both an electronics engineer and computer developer, I’m taking things further, mostly for my son’s entertaining with a bit of AI and building my own BLDC ESC, ultrasonic sensors, video feed, etc. If you guys want details I can brag all day long.

BUT

I’ve got to the transfer case and it seems very grindy indeed. What did you do to make it better?  It sort of get stuck when I turn it by hand in a few places.

Haha, sounds great!

Try not to overtighten the screws on the transfer case and gearbox housings. Sometimes that can cause a bit of binding, as the gears squeeze together.

Use plenty of grease and if you have to reseat gears; do it.

To be honest, mine felt and sounded awful, until it ran for a few minutes. Seemed to clear up.

Good luck!
