Scottyb Posted June 26, 2021 Share Posted June 26, 2021 If anyone was thinking of getting the hobbywing motor heatsink and fan combo i wouldn't bother, i completely obliterated the fan after 3 runs at the bmx track, it was jumping like 10ft in the air but still.... I've got a high speed alu surpass fan in the esc now aswell and it's suprisingly good quality for chinesium. It's probably twice as powerful as the stock max8 one. The fan on the motor has packed up, and it still doesn’t get too hot, so will do the same on the new one. To be fair, the car has never been fully tested, usually little breaks during use, so will keep an eye on it. Scottyb Posted June 28, 2021 Share Posted June 28, 2021 (edited) Snapped a front lower pin in half today and sheered off the front skid plate, so looks like i need some new lower arms and pins, there goes my fun for the week 😁 whoops 😥 hopefully nothing else broke, i think the chassis is still straight lol Would the ST bumper bolt onto the VS? Scottyb Posted June 30, 2021 Share Posted June 30, 2021 Has anyone tried truggy wheels/tyres on the 7/VS or some sort of "wheel spacer" or are there any wheels that are noticeably bigger than the standard ones on the inside? I've got standard wheels and I think some fastrax ones but there's barely 1mm clearance on the arms inside the wheel. I've got something binding at the front and pretty sure it's the wheels grinding away at the steering and camber arm plastics. It's been doing it since I got it and have put numerous packs through it in the hope it would grind them down enough to free the wheels off but it hasn't. I can't go full lock on the steering either as either set of wheels get caught and stuck on something if I do (I think it's the steering arm getting caught inside the wheel). Needed a good service, diffs havent been inspected in over 10 years and the spider diff wasnt putting down the power. So gave it a full stripdown a clean. Is a Hyper 7L this one uses the long chassis still compatible with VSe parts or am i in the wrong thread haha. No oil left in the spider diff, so cleaned, 50k oil and rebuilt, the little orange o ring pops out, do these not need to be fully tightened its been along time since i had it open... 0 wear. Diff spur and pinion have no wear, they look like new basically, simply mind blowing. Rear done, onto the front. Im using ftx futra front shocks for the rear to cope with the extra weight of the batteries and to stop it bottoming out on jumps. Ah found the first damage its ever had, fracture in the front bulkhead, not sure if the VSe diff covers fit the hyper 7 from a decade ago. 99% sure this was from taking it to the skate park and landing it on its head. Only so much do the rabbit ears protect. Front clean and complete, found some incorrect screws used from my last rebuild, happly had them in the spares wondering were they went. Using Hyper Pirate MT shocks at the front to stop it bottoming out. Also spent an hour removing a seized screw from the center brace, much fun... Clean and ready to be tweaked for speed runs and a trip throught the traps at ROSSA might not be fast but will be looking good whilst doing it 🙂 Nice to have it so clean, well worth the effort, feels like getting a new car 🙂 I love my hyper! Over a decade old and never failed. Bloody brilliant machines!
