Traxxas trx4 owners thread.

Gaz!

Recommended Posts

Hi all. Looking to add this to my collection.

Anything different with the 2021 bronco version Vs any other trx-4?

Can you buy as just a roller? I'd rather get HW ESC and motor installed.

Any standard upgrades that are just worth doing?

I think the Bronco and Defender are the same, as an RTR, with all the locking diffs and 2 Speed gearbox.

The sport doesnt have the locking diffs or 2 speed.

Then the Premium Kit comes with all the diffs, but no bodyshell, but you still get the ESC/Motor

Can always sell the esc/motor brand new

Hi all.

What are the lipo dimensions for this crawler.

Thinking of just immediately replacing the stock electrics, and have loads of 2s race packs.

Happy to buy 3s in the future, but a 2s will be good for crawling right?

I got this 1 mate fits right in and its powered by the receiver . Only thing i find wrong with it is if you keep full steering lock on for to long it changes mode

Ohh its gone up in price by almost 10 quid but there are others tho

Looks pretty good mate but is that just for the front ?

I would still add something for the rear

But the above will help as well nice weighty wheels

They are heavier than stock but i have weighted mine as well so are even heavier

So I'm looking to put my order in.

Thinking of starting off with the following

https://www.modelsport.co.uk/product/traxxas-trx-4-land-rover-defender-110-red-418828 (I might go bronco, but not sure)

https://www.modelsport.co.uk/product/hobbywing-quicrun-1080-80amp-wp-brushed-crawler-esc-407325 - rather just ditch the supplied one from the get go

https://www.modelsport.co.uk/product/traxxas-trx-4-metal-steering-servo-horn-431112 - presume plastic is included?

https://www.modelsport.co.uk/product/fastrax-trx-4-aluminium-motor-mount-424518 - heard the plastic one can get some slop

https://www.modelsport.co.uk/product/fastrax-trx-4-brass-bk-portal-drive-housing-outer-f-r-2--446044 x2

What lipos fit the trx-4?

Any other must haves?

Happy to replace the servo too from the get go, if there is a recommended one.

I presume I'll be ok with the supplied radio gear and the brushed motor for the moment until I find an excuse...

I’m leaving the stock radio gear in my TRX4, it works great and the cruise control is a nice feature, I did add the Traxxas link Bluetooth link to make setting up aftermarket electronics easier

This is the lipo I use in mine

The spec of my truck is in my signature 👍

I would agree that the stock radio/ESC are fine and the slow modulation seems good.  They do need a bit of brass to drop the COG so the portal covers are a good shout.  I also went for brass pumpkins (black brass) but that was mainly for looks.

The 6 in one is front and rear I think?

Cool 😎

Ive ordered it, was £64 with vat. Hopefully it does the front and rear.

I was gonna order a 1080, but think Ill wait till I get some more funds together and go with an AXE 3300KV, just worried itll make it too quick to crawl?

1950kv on 3s, ive seen loads say they run the 2800kv and 3300kv Axe with no issues, mines plenty fast enough in top gear and crawls as slow as physically possible with brushless, I’m pretty sure the 3300kv on 3s will do over 30mph 🤣🤣🤣

Bear in mind the stock 21t can is around 1900kv, I have zero idea why some many go for such high Kv motors, especially when you have 2 speed installed 🤔

Yeh its not like low and high are close together as in the DC1 but in TRX4 there is quite a difference tween them

But isnt the idea of going brushless to gain alot more speed in second gear? I want more speed in 2nd gear, but obviously dont want to sacrifice the crawling aspect? Im guessing the internal gear ratio makes the top speed in second only 30mph with the 3300kv system?

3300kv on 3s just ‘sounds’ wrong in a Crawler haha
