Popular Post Carpmart Posted April 5, 2016 Popular Post Share Posted April 5, 2016 (edited) Some of you may be aware that I have long harboured the dream of finding a Rally car body which I could graft onto the Losi 5ive platform. This has had a few 'false dawns', with the promise of a shell being made and then not appearing, a guy in Eastern Europe working on something then not etc. Lots of rabbit warrens, but no rabbits ever! Ideally I was after a MK1 Escort, bubble arch, GRP 4 tarmac set-up scale body. I would still love one at some point. I was surfing some of the RC Facebook pages and came across a chap in Canada (Eastern Euopean by birth) who had a great looking shell he had made for his Losi. I thought nothing ventured etc, so pinged him a message. I happened to be in Dallas at the time and he said he would make me one, but that shipping outside of North America would be too prohibitive cost wise. I was leaving Dallas too soon and without enough bagage allowance, so was a little scuppered. Undeterred, we agreed that he would ship 5 shells and then the cost of shipping, spread over them would make the unit price viable and I was confident that I could shift the others. Now I'm no RC stockist, so after I put up a group buy post on MSUK, Nige from Freeprawn got in touch to say would it work if he was to order the shells and retail them. A deal was struck with our Canadian buddy and the first sample batch have now landed. Being a greedy bugger, Ive got both the Subaru 22b shell and what will be a Rally X Fiesta Hoonigan shell too. They arrived late last week and I have just shipped them out to the painter to get them done professionally. So ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls (and forum staff) all of those of you like me who pined for a largescale rally car, your dreams will very shortly come true... I shall post up progress as I go. These work on a truck platform with the standard cage but with mini width (Arms driveshafts and Turnbuckles)..... I think by the time the next batch of shells arrive, Nige will hopefully have all you need in a conversion list so you can order it as a package (I'm guessing that bit). We all know, even the X2 lovers, how awesome the 5ive platform is, but how bloody boring it was just having penta, standard, hemi and home made shells (mini too of course) but this really does create so many options for some proper scale builds and stunning shells. Have I mentioned how excited I am.... LOL! A question for everyone...... Who knows where I can get some gold scale accurate wheels? This is going to be a 1999 Subura WRC car and I have to have GOLD wheels.... Wheels LIKE THIS..... Thanks - I'm hoping that this will become a very popular. Its just combining the best of all worlds, the de facto large scale platform, with Rally and or Rally X design that we all love.... To be clear, it needs the truck roll cage and the mini running width. You can start with a truck and add mini parts, I think 100 sobs should cover it, or you start with a mini and add the truck bumpers, and cage... 6 of one, half dozen of the other, Roberts' your mothers brother! Noj Posted April 5, 2016 Share Posted April 5, 2016 Cage needs modifying slightly to accept the Scooby shell, just a trim back of the upper cage mounting posts on each side, pop off the bar from the front bumper, bolt shell on, job done. Hats off to Nige for sorting these out. I'm also the owner of a 22b, which will be going out for paint.....too nice (and exclusive, lol) to balls up by my hand. Seconded on the wheel front. Or a wheel manufacturer to see an opportunity and make some rally style wheels for these shells. Anyone? Rite Dye - any good and could I get white Losi mini wheels gold? Whilst initially it sparked my interest, a HPI Savage is not a Losi 5ive. Bullet proof running and killer looks is what we are getting here! Petrol (Noj may disprove this) so all the event too... I think to get the gold wheels you'd have to buy some white ones, then dye them yellow and thenn dye them 'gold' or as Noj said, painted, but doubt that would be a lasting or a good look. Have you been to Canada in the winter, trust me, my pseudo (adopted) Canadian buddy is not heating and forming lexan like this in a shed... The wait overall was not the six weeks Canadian shipping time, rather the three years I've been trying to find a Rally shell maker for the 5iive...
