AndyG1979
Evening all, Was into nitro a few years back but sold up due to work family reasons. Decided last weekend after seeing a friends truggy to get back into it. Was going to get a used or relativity cheap truggy/buggy or truck but found a brand new unused Savage XL Octane on eBay for
jordan_bench10
No experience but why shed 500 on a savage when you can get a km baja which so far looks alot more reliable than the octane No offence as i really like them but cant justify the price for what you get
turok007
it had A LOT of issues when released so you will have to see if you got a updated version. also how is your hearing. lol
mydoddy69
These were a nightmare and a lot went back to HPI !! not sure if they got better but folks had nothing but hassle trying to get them to run.. There is a few thread's you can have a read on .. http://www.msuk-forum.co.uk/topic/194454-harvey-crofts-savage-xl-octane-thread/ http://www.msuk-forum.co.uk/topic/190117-hpi-savage-octane-april-release/?hl=%2Bsavage+%2Boctane
RCbutcher
Ide have one anyday. When they first came out i saw different manifolds some chrome some bronze is that one of the updates? The optional pipe is a joke tho lol they gave a sport pipe then offer the can as an option. :/ Also what radio comes with the xl hpi jow supplies the tf11 with most including vorza a radio i think developed for the mini rs4 and now the standard. What a slap if that comes with the ocatane i doubt it tho. Surely its the tf40 atleast. Edited November 14, 2014 by RCbutcher
turok007
the spark thing seemed to be a dud. also the manual had to be changed.

AndyG1979
Ahhh crap.. Thats typical of me. Always jump in head first. Annoyingly I bought it on eBay. It had never been taken out of the box so as of yet no idea if it'll run. I almost went for a used one from Modelsport UK for 599 so glad I didn't do that. Having said that I may have been able to return it? If it stops raining I'm going to give it a try so hopefully report back later.. Tug
I think we hear more about bad runners than good runners, try it!
turok007
i think they were all bad. but with the changed parts and manual update and a long run in time. they seemed to work good. just very noisy.
AndyG1979
Hay all, Well thats 3 hours I'm never going to get back lol Spent a while in the garage trying to get it to start following the instructions and watching countless videos online. Got fed up and as my mate was waiting patiently with his nitro truggy we decided to chuck them in the car and head out. Spent another half an hour whilst he raced and jumped around. Finally gave up and went to the pub for a few beers haha I did notice that no fuel was getting to the carb. Fuel was priming and could be seen in the little bulb. If a small amount was dropped into the carb it would fire for a second. Ive not touched any of the settings or pipe work. Im not too fed up at the moment as I did enjoy just being out there and I'm sure this is something I can overcome with a small amount of time. I may pick up a nitro car in the next week or so, atleast I will have something to fall back on.
Tug
Stick at it, those that did seem to be enjoying them.
gouldypg
Man this is one thing you gonna wish you'd done your homework on Every thread I've read have been nightmares for the owners Imo hpi shouldn't have these on sale in the state there in Get it back in the box, back in ebay asap Then get yourself an electric losi 8right or something You can thank me later Edited November 16, 2014 by gouldypg
TMaxxDave
Stick with it, it will be worth it in the end, I'm sure. Sent from my iPad Air using Tapatalk
AndyG1979
Im defiantly going to stick with it. Ive not exactly spent hours on it yet so no need to give up just yet. I certainly wouldn't be putting it back on eBay for someone else to spend money on something that didn't work. Its just not the way I work. It'll just be a lesson learned and I will move one to another truck.
DreXeL
The Savage platform itself it great, it's just the Octane version that seems to be an utter ballache
lazkopat
man some of you guys are way too negative towards the Savage Octane, it was a pain at the beginning of the release but look at the videos on youtube now.. Hemistorm got it running great and there's a few other vids that shows the savage octange performing good. Stick with it dude
Ian w
Yeah sure Iam negative the guy asked for peoples experiance with the Octane and I am giving him my impressions of it. When it is running I love it but that is not very often. It spends more time wating for parts then it does running. In total it has cost me in excess of
AndyG1979
Right, hopefully all going well I'm going to spend a bit of time tomorrow afternoon getting this thing started. I have to say I was a little surprised with the comments but I'm always happy to hear people honest thoughts. Would I still have bought one having read the issues others have had? Probably Will hopefully be able to report back with a running truck over the weekend. Thanks
turok007
the comments were the truth. do you know if it is a original version with the faulty parts or if it has the updated bits. i really wanted one but the noise will be a big issue for my bashing area.
