Traxxas Revo-1st Traxxas monster-liking-Tips and tricks?

Picked this up from a local RC head-quite tidy-very strong engine and never messed with.

Ive never had a 1/8th Traxxas before and i think im probably going to stick with one for some time-i really like some of the features and can see that its a top quality model.

This one has no shell and some T-Maxx wheels and tyres on it but after replacing the radio with my Spektrum combo and putting a new shift servo and a handful of dust seals on it,its had its 1st couple of tanks through it today.

2 bolt engine removal is a breeze, turnbuckles turn between fingers, dust seals everywhere, optical shift safety switch, super quality plastics im blown away, and really like the low profile stance.

Very nice.

I don't suppose it matters, but it looks like all four shocks are back to front, the ERBE and Summit layout has them the other way around.

You might want to switch to RPM wishbones, particularly at the rear as they remove the tie-rods which are a weak point. You'll need the true-track rears for that.

The Crown gears are very weak in the diffs, try not to land under power or fit a monster of an engine and they'll be OK.

one of you may know if the T-Maxx and Revo share the same wheel/tyre size?

Yes and no. Your Revo has the older 14mm hex, you can use T-Maxx wheels/tires but they would have to come from the 2.5 or an older 3.3 Maxx....unless you convert to 17mm hexes.

Ok so i got round to rebuilding the shocks-rears fine...but the fronts....

The pistons are super tight in the shock bodies-seriously-with no oil in em but lubricated i can hardly move them by hand-ive seen somthing similar before when someone used mineral oil instead of the proper stuff and the seals expanded, but the pistons are soooo tight-any ideas or experience of this?

Ive got them out easy enough but wondering what to do before rebuilding em?

Shock rebuild kits ate buttons. There is two to choose from, most people use the variable damping kit. I have the part number some where.

Yeah i had a look at them,MS are out of stock at mo,but i think ive sussed it.While reassembling i notice that they are sensitive to the amount of torque you put on the nut that holds the piston..ill try a rebuild for now and see what i think...

RESULT

Its not all bad,a swift rebuild with green slime and some careful assembly has them back to tip top performance

It seems that the old oils had degraded somewhat and taken on similar properties as 'bog watter'-a decent clean before refilling has them sweet again.
