  1. Anyone use these Fitbit things? Are they any good, reliable, accurate?

The bottom line is cost, the more you spend 'should' get you a product which records quality data, an app which is well written and the user can understand it. Loads of reviews out there on YT and in the press.

I like the Garmin Virofit for many reasons, first and foremost it's waterproof, how Fitbit thought it was okay to produce a product which was not is beyond me  . The batteries last for roughly six months, cheap to replace, so no recharging issues etc.....  :D

Yep it's Vivofit, think it's v2, probably v3 out by now.

Took 12 days to arrive. Gave it to my 14 year old who says it's 'fine' and so will never see it again. Performance is good. Build quality satisfactory for price point. It is big if coming from 'normal' size so depends what you want to use it for. Teenagers dont talk so suits him.

  3. Any electroncs experts? Old Philips AK601 CD player wih drawer that will bot open, but will auto close after manually pulled out. Only one limit switch which seems to work when tested for continuity. Belt in good condition. Motor pulses for a few seconds when open pressed then stops. Reached limit to my capabilities.

Fitted new belt and drive gear but cd player still not opening, will close after manually pulling open and cd will play. Motor is still operating trying to close. Only one limit switch which is fully pressed either when fully open or closed. Tested limit switch with meter and seems to operate as normal.

"If he wants to prove he's a man, we should do it out of the car face-to-face" yeah saw that, proper made me laugh. Love to see that one in the car park behind the pits. Hair pulling at dusk! I still maintain Vet should have just admitted he was too close and misjudged it. This isn't an insurance claim, just admit you got it wrong.

It could have broken the front suspension of either car - water under the bridge now, bring on Austria.

I was almost feeling sad one of the remaining records was going to fall this season - let '68' happen at Silverstone - meaning Lewis must get pole from under Seb's nose - shame!!

The thing to note is that the service is unpredictable.  Sometimes you will get a package from China in a few days, other times it is many months, with no real explanation as to why this happens.  Just order, count your savings and be patient.

I eventually received a VAT bill after 10 days for about £30 and the £12 fee. I queried with TRASHOP as I thought I read that VAT was included at point of sale, but they said no. The parts werent available in UK, so had few overseas choices.

What made you opt for the awareness course instead of the fine and points? I only ask as i've been offered the awareness course and always opted for the fine...

    3. locky

      locky

Do points mean prizes? Points need to be declared to insurers and they only conclude one thing - higher premiums, courses dont AFAIK and they dont have access to database of attendees.

    4. kangarilla

      kangarilla

you do realise that if you get 12 points (I think) you get banned, its not the highest points win you know:)

You only get offered a SAC every 3 years, if you get caught again, instant fine no option.

I think they are trying to tell you that if you didnt listen, then have a fine.

Quite interesting tbh, depends who you get, as some are dull as dishwater, we had a bloke who was like a stand up comic, really enjoyed it.. cant remember what he said mind you, just slow down a bit.:)

  11. Do they make some bricks 10x as hard on purpose? A 5 min job to out up extra shelves in man cave takes 3 times as long, half bricks are done in quickly in seconds, rest take ages. Would a SDS drill be better?

    2. johninderby

      johninderby

So much easier with an SDS drill. Also I use Fischer plugs as they hold so much better than the typical plugs sold in most DIY places.

    3. locky

      locky

Yep Fischer plugs are the best and already got. Learnt that lesson. Thinks it's time for a new drill, as fed up with normal. Go for cheap SDS or well known brand? Wont be used regularly. Dont fancy battery so mains will do.

    4. johninderby

      johninderby

This brand from Screwfix isn't half bad and pretty cheap.

I bought a Ryobi SDS cordless as I already had batteries and charger. That's the big problem with cordless the batteries and charger can be really ££££ if you have to buy them just for one tool.

  17. Eldest son wants new mobile. He's had Galaxy S3 for about 4 years, not in any contract. Looking at Galaxy S7. Is it best to get a sim free? He's got part time job so could get about £500 in 3 months. Contracts seem to start at £30pm for 24m with low data. I'm not into mobiles so not got any experience.

I have bought loads of SIM free phones outright before and haven't kept any of them for long.

I have a contract one now that whilst more expensive in the long run will probably save me some money as in the 2 years I have it for I would have probably bought and sold 4-6 other phones loosing a couple of hundred pounds on each one even before buying any calls or data.

I've been eyeballing s7's too not the curved screen one but the smaller one I think it's the exact same thing but screen and battery.

Looking at the ammount of smashed curved versions on ebay i think std might be more durable too.

£350 seems to be the used price on a good condition. I'm gonna wait to hear Vodafones offers tho after I say I'm leaving lol. Last time I tried to leave they gave me a deal I couldn't refuse. But was a sim deal.

      £10 a month.

      600 min

      Unlimited texts

      1gb net

      100 free pic msgs

      £10 free sky mobile tv

      12 months.

Then decided to get phones again and they've taken alot of the deal away I only get 500mb now but I've only gone over it once.

But now I'm just sick of them hardly any signal unless I'm home. Vodafone avoided uk taxes and took eu money to support remain.

So I'm thinking about getting a giff gaff.

quality of the work might be a factor too.

If it's neat...well soldered and covered with heatshrink...probably not.

If there are blobs of solder everywhere and its a mess wrapped in a bundle of insulating tape.....well...go figure.

    3. Oh How Original

      Oh How Original

Shouldn't do... Sellers can't expect everyone to use all the same connectors, for one thing it's not practical between huge packs and tiny packs, some people need a mini Deans and others need 8mm bullets.

As NH said, the quality of the work maybe a factor, but I've warrantied packs with different connectors on to what I bought.

Unsure on the GoolRC pinnys. Might be worth a go tho at the price. To be fair their EC5 and XT90 connectors are decent quality, if anything too good. Metal decent thickness making them difficult to pull apart.

I normally use Novak hardened pinny and have also used Answer.

Could always dremmel more flat a bit further down your motor shaft.

    4. dazp1976

      dazp1976

Looking at the price of some pinions I may just try out a plastic spur on my Trophy to save pinion wear.
