  2. Think the impact was right in the middle of the A arm on the trunk of the small tree in the top right of 1st photo. Had a good few bash sessions with it so far and am impressed with the overall durability of the truck and the terrain that it can handle.

  3. Like this? I had a great day out with mine today, it was meant to be a day crawling with the Scout with the possibility of some Firestorm action, however.... I forgot to pack the Scout!

  10. Unless they are perfect I dont think there are many of that age that have any real value. My guess would be no more than £20-£30 as a job lot. I like the porsche and the f40, but only for their wheels, other than that theres not alot there for me.

  11. No power on, it should move, that's fine. All depends on setting the end-points of the radio, but if you mean with the power on, it opens the throttle 1 mm from the stops, that's perfect. If it's only moving 1 mm, I'd try testing the servos out next - engine off, and as stated, set the zero (throttle / brake) and centre (steering) points, then the end points - never force the links / servos. 12. Piston and sleeve typically come as a pair. The pin which slides into the piston and holds the conrod should be held in place by a small spring clip. If the pin isnt secure then it move snd may catch the sleeve.

  14. Reset the esc. It will involve setting the end points on the transmitter. What ESC is it? you can also switch any two of the three motor wires over, but calibrating the esc properly is the best way

  16. If you ST is a Pro and in good condition, I'd def convert it over the VSe myself. Recent price rises have made the proposition harder but I still recommend people wanting a bashing truggy to get a new ST Pro kit and go from there.

  17. Give the whole engine a good blast with the missus' hairdryer before attempting to start. This makes starting easier and also reduces the chances of getting stuck at TDC. Also, once you've finished running make sure you store the engine with piston at BDC to avoid it seizing as the liner cools.

  18. I'm gona hold out until the 8s kit has been out for a good 6 months. I mean, who's to say any of the 8s kit is up to the job? In some owner's eyes the original X has been a total failure and an expensive one at that. We know the Max6 can handle 8s - can the new Traxxas ESC truly handle 8s without thermalling? Are the new rings truly re-engineered or are they the same hardened version thats been available for and upgrade for a while? Now i'm the last one to be negative about this truck - love mine - but I remain sceptical and cannot get too excited about this until i've seen some real-world user results.

  21. I know my consumer rights, I also know that if I go to the skate park and ram my car into a kerb it's my fault, I get a 1/5 scale that relies on premix fuel I mix it wrong and blow the engine, I get a brushed car convert it to brushless then moan the gears fail all this has happened on this forum and then people say not fit for purpose!!! Anybody who relies on a gaurentee needs to take up a different hobby like watching television (5 yr gaurentee!)

  22. You mean the heat reflective tape stuff? That's to keep the fuel as cool as possible as your only aloud a certain amount of fuel in the finals. On road cars tend to struggle with fuel consumption especially when it's hot and trying to keep the fuel as cool as possible helps with that. I will probably remove what's on there and replace it as it's a bit tatty.

  23. You dont need the larger servo's for 2wd on road. Its all about the weight saving lol And the other 2 servo's are for separate front and rear hydro brakes so you can mix the braking to suit

  24. The American RC car market is nearly 100% wheel radios so there is a lot more choice in wheel radios over here. Stick radios are a lot more popular here than in the US but because the US market is a lot bigger the manufactures don't make many surface stick radios so there's not as much choice. Neither is better or worse really so it's up to you which you like bettar. I prefer a stock radio but a basic wheel radio can be had for a lot less. Watch out for the aircraft stick radios though as they come with a ratchet throttle not a sprung one which is what you want for surface use. It would only cost a few pence for the manufactures to stick the sprung bits in with an aircraft radio but no they choose to make it difficult to get hold of the sprung bits. So basically just choose witchever type you feel more comfortable with. John

  25. That dual steering servo set up is neat. Pity they can't come up with something similar for the 5ive. Those ones look like they can't work against each other and burn out. Do you have an engine in mind?

  26. Im sitting on over 40 rc cars all makes all sizes every fuel combination going, and I can tell you it is the nature of the hobby if you asked for a refund everytime something broke the industry would be bust blah blah blah blah blah!!

  27. It's possible to remove the top plate and flex the chassis to pop the driveshaft out.

  28. Gotta say, it's a good write up. Interesting solution to the rounded off wheel fitting, probably better than my idea of just gluing hexes into the wheels (it worked tbf).

  29. On a new engine you need to break it in. The pinch at TDC can be very tight. Starting with a warm crankcase which can take a few mins to soak up heat, not just the cooling head. Loosen glow plug to start, when idling well tighten it up, otherwise it will loosen and go into orbit. Run a few tanks at idle on rich LSN settings then gently drive around for a few tanks before leaning HSN. Get temps up to about 200F during break in. Place piston at BDC when engine is cooling down at end of run.

  30. If it's fine until you put the plug in then I read somewhere try to start it with the plug loose then gradually tighten it back up once running. I can't guarantee the info tho, just what I came across at some point. Got nothing to lose really.

  36. The idea is a larger surface area / contact area. Smoother - yes. More torque before failure - theoretically - yes. In 1:1 gearboxes, the go the opposite way - stock / road is helical and race are straight cut. The idea here is to permit faster changing. Shouldn't affect us but highlights that tooth engagement is critical. Al.

  37. £3.49 breakage, not too bad... Looking at getting Titanium ones in the long run, Although both dogbones are slightly bent now, as the right side turnbuckle was ever so slightly bent too (straightened out easily, will keep as a spare).

  42. I wouldn't be. Traxxas and new esc does not with confidence fill one. Good news for existing owners who can now drop a load of $$$ (in hopefully) making there 6S MT reliable.

  43. Forum is on the blink agian I see or atleast it is for me lol Got a bit ahead of myself there with all the excitement lol so there's a whole new max coming 8s out the box and we can buy a kit to upgrade but I'm guessing as there's a new truck coming all these parts will be available seperate so no need for the kit which is a bonus if you already swapped out your esc It should make it 6s proof which is more than enough for me ! So today atleast there is finally a silver lining on the horizon and it's a good day to own an X Maxx !!

  44. Wtf!!??? Just got the email. 8s! Wahay!! https://m.traxxas.com/products/parts/8s-power-up?utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=X-Maxx 8S Upgrade CSM&utm_content=X-Maxx 8S Upgrade CSM+CID_3b00971b47bccdbb519c5cb1f560b21a&utm_source=Campaign Monitor E Blasts&utm_term=X-Maxx Owners Upgrade now to 30 Volts of Power Dam I'm excited!!! ive already run 8s and it's crazy of course! Well this proves the stock motor is ok on 8s then. Wheelie bar!!!!! At last!!!! those drive train upgrades are what I'm most st excited about though. If they have been designed for 8s properly then it should at least mean a very reliable 6s!???? I think I saw the 8s xmaxx coming out at $899? From traxxas. If that's the case surely they have just pulled a master stroke with such a super powerful rtr no one else can get anywhere near power and craziness wise!???
