Just make sure you fit the central shaft the right way up as if it is fitted the wrong way it won’t tighten up properly on the bottom end. Way to tell is if there is a lot of slop in which case simply fit the shaft the other way up.

A proper drill bit.  

 

Have a set of blacksmiths drill bits up to 25mm. Only used the big un once in about five years though.
