Wife finally found out how many cars I have!

Hello guys and gals. 
 

ive never had all my cars out at the same time. Mainly due to space but also because my fleet has grown quietly over the last couple of years. 
 

I now have 9 in total, all Traxxas models. I thought I would pair a new controller to the cars and had them lined up ready in the corridor of my flat. My wife never comes out to see what I’m doing. I had my TRX4 on the table in the house and a slash on the stairs. 

 

I’m on the floor, 7 cars lined up with no lids  ready for the relinking process. 
 

wife comes down and sees the cars lined up. Then the penny dropped. How many? Eh How many cars do you have. What the hell? She’s counting and then heads inside counting more. As you could imagine she was shocked!

 

Busted!! She was telling me that she thought I had 4 and that was ok, but 9 was too much. 
 

Luckily for me, I steered clear for the day and she hasn’t mentioned it again.   
 

Have you had anything similar?

I have 4 nitros plus bags and boxes of stock,since September last year I've accumulated into the hobby,gone and got the ones I really wanted from years ago 10+ and the fiance of 4 years 😂 apparently I need to get rid of them but I'm only just getting started haha,younwas lucky to get away for the day tbh she hates when I'm working on them but it is what it is so just tell her that's that lol. Politely off course 😘,she will get round to asking you again so be ready 😂😂😂

A while ago I managed to get some shelves set up in our hobby room and put my cars out on display. My wife was also surprised to see the size of the fleet, but instead of being horrified, she took an interest, asked a bit about them, what they were, etc, She noted that there were a few gaps in the fleet, such as I had a FF-01 and FF-03 but no FF-02 for example, and suggested that I get the "missing" cars to make up a complete set!

I only have 3 which are kept on a shelf in the wife’s office! On the other hand my collection of 80 plus OO gauge locomotives and hundreds of boxed rolling stock are kept in the loft 😬

i had around 40  and 2 of the big traxxas summits lived in the bath  and the 3rd was kept on the chest freezer.  My missus never minded the cars but the RC planes were a different story.  lol

I have 1, but in the process of building a second. 

 

She is not impressed that I have one and I have yet to convince her to have a go to see how much fun they are. 

 

I'm not sure I could get away with 9, nevermind ones as large as a xmaxx and trx6!

I must say that threads like this puzzle me a bit. I thought it was the norm to have a partner who supports you in your interests and who you support in return. My parents were like that, with Dad going to flower expos with Mum even though he had no particular interest in horticulture, and Mum going to watch Dad taking part in sporting events that she wasn't terribly interested in taking part in herself. My wife's parents were the same, although in that case it was sewing expos and horse racing. There weren't any budget arguments either, as whatever spare money was shared fairly. Mum didn't mind what sporting gear Dad bought and Dad didn't mind what what gardening stuff Mum bought, as both had the same budget. My wife and I have the same arrangement with our respective hobbies, and it works well. Are we just weirdly lucky?

@TurnipJF My parents were the same, Dad had his Z gauge railway and Mum had her embroidery. My other half is big into her garden and has some eccentric home furnishing ideas, but its all cool. If I am ever a bit bored her first reaction is 'why don't you get a new car/boat to build'. Am pretty blessed really 😁

Do you really think shes steered clear and forgotten? Do you really?

Right now she is googling the value of them all!

 

You wait till she wants something new and expensive!

Or she wants to cause you pain and decides to very slowly run them over recording the crunching sound just so she can play it back to you!

She was annoyed as I have not been working a huge amount and she has only just found them. Which is completely justified. Many of them though were bought pre pandemic. 

 

Amazingly, she valued each car at £200 and worked out a figure of about £2000 that was spent, that could have been spent on other family things. I failed to correct her that the Xmaxx itself is near on £1000 excluding batteries. 

 

Im sure she will bring it up later, when she wants her £296 Vidal Sassoon hair cut and colour.

Likewise, my Mrs would never question what I've bought, she know's I'm not extravagant (neither is she), and if a new RC turns up, she doesn't bat an eyelid.  It helps that she's not the slightest bit interested, so rarely even ventures into the hobby/dump room.  Likewise, when she spends 100 quid on new football boots or running shoes, or 400 quid on a set of new badminton racquets, I don't give a sod either.  As long as the house is warm, and there's food on the table for the kids, we respect each others judgement enough not to interfere or criticise.  Perhaps I'm just fortunate in that respect?
