The Dark Knight's RC4WD Beast II kit

Recommended Posts

I was gathering parts to build another SCX10 Hilux but wasn't really feeling the build having build two previously. So I sold up all the parts I had collected and started saving for this RC4WD Beast II kit as I've fancied one for quite a while.

Big thanks goes to Martin at RC Bitz, awesome service & always a pleasure to deal with.

My kit arrived yesterday (21/12/16) and I made a start to the build last night. Having a 18 month old baby does restrict my building time but I'm not in any rush to get it together. I still need to decide on an esc & motor.

The obligatory new box pic, love the box art:

The 3 axles which I've stripped, cleaned, shimmed, greased and reassembled using thread-lock. Only the front & rear axles needed shimmed, the centre axle was ok:

That's it for now, I'll hopefully have time to strip & grease the transmission & transfer case tonight. Then maybe start assembling the chassis :)

I've made a fair amount of progress now, just haven't had the time to update my thread.

The chassis is basically ready for electrics now, still waiting on my esc & motor to arrive which should be this week. I'm collecting the servo for the 2 speed transmission next weekend.

Overall I'm impressed with the build quality, only thing letting it down is the hardware, some of the heads wanted to round out fairly easily but that's an easy fix. I was using good quality tools too.

Here's a few pics at various stages of the chassis build:

Here's the servo I'll be using for the steering along with a BEC:

I'm still waiting on glue & paint to arrive but made a start to the body assembly.

Primed using Halfords plastic primer:

Then painted matt black:

That's it for now, hopefully more updates in the next week or so.

Not too much progress to report. I've made more progress on the front cab and made the basic frame of the rear bed.

The good news is I have all my electrics now, I've just to decide how to install everything. I was planning to install most of the electrics into the rear section of the front cab but this would make it a pain for maintenance. So now I'm thinking of just install the electrics as intended on the chassis.

Here's a few more pic of my progress:

I've been using EMA Plastic Weld to glue the body, it sets quick and seems to be a strong bond:

The front cab, I used masking tape to hold the basic structure together:

I'll be using a Hobbywing 1080 esc & Yeah Racing 45t brushed motor:

The front grill & badge put into place:

The front fenders into place:

Test fitting electrics in the front cab but decided against this:

The servo I'll be using to change 2 speed transmission:

Basic layout of electrics. Once I'm happy with the general layout, I'll be wrapping the wires in black sheath:

That's it for now :)
