AdamR
Pug 106 key largo, 1.0 4 speed beast 1998 fiat punto 1.1, bought with 55k, sold it with 155000 miles 2 years later. Other than service items I never spent a penny on it. 1990 ST185 Toyota Celica GT4. 1998 Vauxhall vectra DTi, crap, enough said. 1994 MK3 1.4 astra. The only car I have ever known to wear out a crank pulley! How does that happen?lol EF 1.6 twin cam civic. Went like a scalded cat! 1994 Fiesta XR2i 16v. My favourite car I have owned. Cam belt broke so rebuilt a 2.0 zetec with some mods and stuck that in. Around 160bhp and would make mince meat of evo's and wiped the smiles off many subaru owners faces. I miss that car! 1.4 306 Toyota carina e, that car just wouldnt die! Trust me, I tried! Alfa romeo 156 1.8 t spark 2.0 single cam honda prelude 1.4 EG honda civic. Handled like a go kart! 1998 2.5 V6 mitsubishi galant. Silky smooth luxury car! 2001 Pug 206 GTi. The car that convinced me I will never own another french car! 1995 Subaru impreza WRX. Just awesome. Had an hks filter, decat, full stainless, dump valve and polar performance piggyback ecu. Christ it was quick. The fastest car point to point I have ever owned. Rev 3 MR2 turbo coupe. Christ it was quick in a straight line. Dangerous in the wet! Ended up wrapped around a sign post. 2002 Golf GTi. The most boring car I have ever owned. 1996 Ford mondeo estate. Lexus is200 sport 1998 mazda mx5. I loved that car. Would sit at 7000rpm all day long and laugh it off! Massive fun with the roof down. Definitely not a hairdressers car! Now driving a Focus ST170. Hugely under rated. Not that quick on paper. Very quick in the real world! Its reliable, comfortable, easy to work on, good enough on fuel and a hoot to drive! 7400rpm never gets boring!! Possibly the best handling car I have ever owned. Its either going to be a blob eye sti impreza or a focus ST3 next for me!

Saabmania2
I'll bet the same can't be said for the Rover 800s... What possessed you??!!?? Surely one was bad enough All of the Rover 800's I had (with the exception of the Auto one) where all used as Taxi's by me bought as one owner direct from Auction and every single one did over 250k without any engine issues, infact they was so good that the only thing I replaced was an alternator on the 827 otherwise they where very good. Most problems on the rover 800 where caused by the CCU unit under the dashboard as it suffered from dry solder joints 15 mins getting it out and half an hour soldering and no problems ever again. Nothing wrong with the T series engines... Posted by me ???? :hahadance: Someone else that thinks the same the M & T series where very good, even the K series is a good engine just the waterways are slightly too narrow ans the radiators are too small but otherwise nice lively engine, best thing to happen with Rover was Honda the worst thing was BMW damn Germans
jp79er
I don't think people give Rover the credit they deserve for their engines and general engineering, I also have two secret loves the A series (I grew up with David Vizard as my of A series tuning...LOL) and the K series, both massively versatile engines was greatly tuneable (no thanks to the Mems system) and configurations to their names...I used to be a Rover Mechanic...and I am in two minds about Honda's intervention providing engines was a shame showing Rover failing of being great engineers but rubbish at accounting not being able to afford to fully develop the K series first. Selling the Mini at a loss......and using Honda to bail them out as the R&D on the K-Series was running out of cash. Thankfully they got the K-Series fully engineered, not with out fault admittedly the biggest IMO was the coking on the valve seats, but that's only because stigma caused people steer clear unless you wore a flat cap, smoked a pipe and wore slippers because despite being a long stroke engine it needed to rev to get the valves to turn correctly. Nice to see the MG badge back on the road...But sad to see its heratige sold off out side the UK, much like the Mini brand..

jp79er
The issue was not across all units, only a selected years around 95-98 I believe when the block went under revision most units out side this are a lot better. The MLS gaskets that came over from Landrover was a big improvement also stemming the issue. The undersized water cooling as saabmania2 describes didn't help in warping and the water jacket and combustion chamber breach was all to easy.. but the K series in the world of aluminium based engines was a marvel of engineering, including the VVC engine...although with pioneering efforts issues are likely to arise...Shame they went in to administration before they started on the Camless version (Would have probably turned in to another pioneering success eternally haunted by disastrous execution in the traditional Rover manner)...TBH if it wasn't for MG going under the K series would still be running now...LOL
AdamR
The issue was not across all units, only a selected years around 95-98 I believe when the block went under revision most units out side this are a lot better. Not strictly true. All ages of the k series suffer the head gasket nightmares. I have been involved with many late model MG's, TF's, ZT's, ZR's, ZS's etc with head gssket woes. I do notice though that the 1.4 is the worst of them. The steel gasket did help but not solve the issue. In my eyes the biggest fault was with the head bolts themselves which are way too long. Constant heating, cooling, heating, cooling caused the bolts to stretch and gaskets to fail. The only modification that I have seen to actually work is to throw away the head bolts and change them for ARP studs and nuts. Along with the steel head gasket completely erased the head gasket problem. The K series doesnt deserve the bad reputation though. Apart from the gasket issues they are a very very good engine. Every engine has its faults, Some toyota engines have big end bearing failure issues, t spark engines the same. BMW engines are renowned for oil leaks and coil pack failures. Its not just rover with issues!

Carpmart
I think this is most of mine. I've had quite a lot. I usually have a few cars at any one time. . Quite a number of these were company cars. The sort of job I had and the deal we had, meant some cars I got new, kept for literally 3 months, then they were passed on to new reps, hence the sheer volume of cars. Others like the 530 e39 sport, I kept for six years and did 150k in it.
