Depends what kind of things you want to shoot @Nick - I started with a Nikon D3300 and absolutely loved it, around £300 new with a kit 18-55 which is good for a range of things.
I'd recommend one of those in good second hand condition you'll get one for around £200 I should think.
With some change I'd also recommend the Nikon 55-200, it's pretty quick too, even coupled with the D3300, I still have my kit 18-55 and the 55-200 in my bag, because I think value for money is just brilliant.
If I had any complaint about the D3300 it's the buffer isn't huge, if you're in burst mode, it'll do about 12-15 images on JPEG large before slowing down, but it's really not a sports camera anyway.
As an all rounder, you can't really beat that set up to be honest, or if you fancy more reach, then the Tamron 70-300 is also a really nice lens for the money.

Yes been a lovely day, had a wander round Ilkley and Otley, went up to the chevin, weather played fair for a change, even went to cow an calf, that cafe is a ruddy rip of. Regards a used DSLR, dont discount getting a Canon 1000D with kit lens, this will leave a few quid left over for a second lens, try wexphotographic used section, i use a 1000D body for doing my Luna imaging at prime focus through a telescope and bought mine used about 5 years ago from wex for around £100, still going strong

Just unpinned a topic from the bashers section that was 11 years old and clearly hasn't been read this decade.

House painting... Can I paint gloss over gloss paint without prep? I'm lazy.

Depends how fussy you are about the finish, ie.smooth and how robust you want it. If you are using water based over oil then recommend you sand first, otherwise it can flake off. Water based dont yellow like oil over time. You usually get a better finish with proper preparation, the 7 Ps come to mind.

If the old paint is gloss the windows will need a rub down before any paint is used otherwise it will just come off easily.
I wounldn't use gloss as its a pain to get it right plus it can leave drips if you dont brush it out properly and normally requires a undercoat. I would use either Bedec Mutli Surface paint or Johnsons Acrylic Satin both are water based paints, so its easier to use and to wash out brushes etc.
